restaurant on the island and have it delivered directly to the resort. There is nothing better than feasting on delicious food while looking out across the breathtaking sea-views from the comfort of the terrace. What can I do in KohLarn? KohLarn is a place of relaxation, but there are still some things to do to keep you active during your stay. The major activities on the island include lots of active sports such as paragliding, diving, snorkeling, jet-skiing and even underwater walking. The island is very cozy, but there are 6 main beaches you can explore on foot or by hiring a bicycle, which is a great way to get about. All the beaches have that special tropical vibe which is more similar to the South of Thailand and an interesting contrast to the gritty nature of Pattaya City. When you are visiting Pattayaon holiday, it can get so busy that it’s hard to relax and unwind. Taking a couple of days out to visit the Suntosa Resort on KohLarn really does take your holiday experience to the next level.

The History of
Songkran Water Festival (Thai New Year)
astrological charts, and keeping in line with the Buddhist/ Hindu solar calendar. The point about transformation is an important one, because symbolically, the water festival washes away the previous years trouble and strife, allowing you the opportunity to start anew and to change the path of your life for the coming year and beyond.
A
t the moment you are reading this, no doubt you are trying to circumnavigate the hectic madness that is the Songkran Water Festival and Thai New Year. You are probably wondering how Songkran came to this. Why is water synonymous with Thai New Year and how did we get to this point in time? Many people from all over the globe have experienced Songkran at first hand by living here or when visiting Thailand on holiday, but how many of you know the history of Songkran? Not many? Me too, so here it goes. Astrological Alignment with the Stars Without realizing it, many of the world’s most auspicious days and festivals are due to an alignment with the starts and full-on astrology. Our ancestors didn’t have Google or YouTube, so they focused on the stars and saw reoccurring patterns that they based their lives and beliefs around. Songkran Thai New Year is no different. Thai Buddhism is a relative to Hinduism in India and shares many core beliefs with the religion and philosophy. The date for Thai New Year is 13 April, although the festival also includes the 14th and 15th, and in some provinces, such as Pattaya and in the North, is almost a week-long. The word ‘Songkran’ comes from the Sanskrit word ‘Sam · kra¯nti’, which means ‘astrological passage’ and focusses on transformation and change. They borrowed this term from the Hindu Harvest Festival, Makar Sankranti, which is also in conjunction with the rise of Aires on the
Historical Traditions of Songkran No-one knows the exact year that people started celebrating Songkran, but as it derived from Hinduism, we can project that the festival might well be thousands of years old. The history of the festival’s traditions originated from the prayers and blessings for Buddhist Monks, which saw ancient traditions of visiting the local temples and monasteries to give food offerings to the monks. Amidst the prayers and blessings given to the monks, water was also poured over them during the cleansing process, which then evolved into everyday people pouring water over each other, which had been blessed, therefore giving them good luck. Over the past 20-years, Songkran has evolved into a water fight that wouldn’t look out of place in a Hollywood action movie. The fun and friendly chaos we see today as pump-action water guns spray out in every conceivable direction has taken the festival to the mainstream of the world. Many men’s magazines such as FHM and Maxim had written full features on the water fight at Songkran, no doubt helping to promote Songkran as a fun and friendly time for younger persons to visit Thailand. We hope you have a great Songkran this year, and please try to keep it safe and fun. And please try not to get this magazine wet because we have so many more things to recommend this month for after the water fight is finite.

3 Remote Temples to Visit in Thailand
id you know that 84% of the entire population of the world are religious or have faith or religious beliefs? Amazing stat, right? Some religions are thousands of years old, while others such as paganism are all but extinct, and with new and exciting cults popping up all the time with overzealous ‘leaders’, there are more options for religion than buying doughnuts. 93% of the Thai population are Buddhists, and have been for a thousand years or more. This has culminated in a vast network of Buddhist temples in Thailand, with new ones popping up so frequently, you can tell that religion is still alive and kicking in the Land of Smiles. We all know about the main and most popular temples in Thailand, but what about remote, secluded and the least known temples? Here are some remote temples in Thailand that are more than worth a special pilgrimage. Wat Pha Lat in Chiang Mai Chiang Mai is one of the first places in Thailand that people settled, and due to its vast historic past and the Lanna Empire that goes back 1,000 years, the region is home to some of the oldest and most remote temples such as Wat Pha Lat.
Located in a remote jungle, Wat Pha Lat looks like something that Indiana Jones might have stumbled upon when pillaging the ancient relics of the religious world. Originally used as a resting place for people pilgrimaging to the more famous Doi Suthep in the mountains, WatPhaLat is a place of peaceful serenity and reflection, used as a retreat for meditation and local Buddhist monks. It will take a 40-minute hike through jungle terrain to get there, but it is well worth it. Phraya Nakhon Cave Temple Not only is Phraya Nakhon Cave Temple secluded and remote, but it’s also one of the most unique and intriguing places to visit in Asia. Situated in cave at the Khao Sam Roi Yot National Park in Prachuap Khiri Khan province, just a 45-minute drive from the coastal town of Hua Hin, the place is remote but not too far out of the way. Sorry to mention Indiana Jones again, but this is the kind of place you can imagine Indy trapped, surrounded by scorpions and hostile tribe members. Fortunately, there are no tribes or scorpions here, only a breathtaking cave that is 430 meters deep. Once inside, you will encounter beautiful Buddha images and stalagmites and stalactites that have taken tens of thousands of years to form. Buddha Park in NongKhai Buddha Park is located in Nong Khai, right on the Thai-Laos border and is a place where many people go to do their visa-runs. If you find yourself in this part of the world and are looking for a spot of remote cultural heaven, Buddha Park is an interesting place. Buddha Park is also known as Sala Keoku and is like a Buddhism Disneyland with ancient old Buddhist temples and images, some of which look similar to those you might find Angkor Wat in Cambodia. It’s only 200 THB to visit the park, and is a place that tourists don’t often venture.

Places to Get Away from Pattaya During Songkran
P
attaya is one of those unique places in Thailand that in some ways is pretty much like its own republic. Most places in Thailand celebrate Songkran Thai New Year for just 24-hours, but that is not enough for Pattaya. The city of extremities is exactly the same over Songkran, not satisfied with a 24-hour water fight, stringing it out over a week-long period. Just remember that most regions in the North and Northeastern reaches of Thailand also celebrate Songkran over a week-long period. Although Songkran is great, who wants to partake in a water fight for 7 days? Arnold Schwarzenegger maybe? Bruce Wilis? Bear Grylls? You get my point. Here are some ideas to get away from Pattaya over Songkran. Chillaxing on Koh Larn This one might be a bit of a cop-out, but if you don’t want to travel too far, but want to get away from Songkran, a quick island hop over to Koh Larn is just the ticket. Just a 45-minute ferry ride from Bali Hai Pier and you can have your own little paradise island experience. Even if you do encounter water fights when you get there, it will only be for 24-hours, and the rest of the time you can relax, rest and rejuvenate on this beautiful island. Living it up Phuket Style Phuket is an amazing place to visit any time of the year. The best part about visiting Phuket over Songkran is that if you can take a flight on the 14th April, and by the time you get to Phuket International Airport,
Songkran in Phuket will already be over and back to business as usual. You can spend your time dry and on the beach, or enjoying the exciting nightlife on Bangla Road in Patong, or exploring the beautiful parts of the Southern Tip such as Rawai and Nai Harn dryer than Gandhi’s flip-flops. Taking in the sights and sounds of Kanchanaburi Approximately a 5-hour drive from Pattaya City, Kanchanaburi is a great place to get away from Songkran. Although they do celebrate Thai New Year on the 13th and 14th April, any time after that makes it the perfect escape route. This popular resort town is located in the Central West of Thailand, home to the Bridge Over The River Kwai, the war museum and much more. Bask in the local charm of this region to enjoy an authentic slice of Thailand dryer than my sense of humor. Doing a Visa Run Some might say the only way you can really escape from Songkran is to get out of the country. It’s the only surefire way to miss the festivities. One of the normal aspects for foreigners living in Thailand is that depending on what visa we have, we have to routinely leave the country to update our Thai visa. If you are nearing the expiry date on your visa, Songkran is a great time to get out of the country for a few days. Some of the most popular places are Vientiane and Luang Prabang in Laos, Siem Reap and Phenom Penn in Cambodia, or even Kuala Lumpur or Penang in Malaysia.

THE EVOLVING NATURE OF INVESTMENTS IN THAILAND @
EMERGING TRENDS ADVISORS
T
he world of investments can be a complicated and ever-evolving sector, and the people who see these trends and changes are usually the ones who benefit most when it comes to returns on investments. Not everyone has their fingers on the pulse of the market, so when you need to make the right choices, especially in Thailand and Pattaya, Emerging Trends Advisors offers the best solutions and most lucrative investment opportunities bar none. Emerging Trends Advisors know the Pattaya and Thailand investment markets and use their combined decades of working in the local real estate and investment sector to bring you the best deals in the marketplace that offer the safest and most reliable investment options. Best Investment Opportunities in Pattaya One of the most frightening trends on the Pattaya real estate market in recent years has been the vast oversupply of condo developments, especially in areas such as Pratumnak Hill. This massive influx of condos really has taken its toll on the marketplace. This has caused havoc with those who have bought into existing rental return programs in Pattaya condo developments. Because of the current over supply in the condominium market, it has made it difficult for condo owners to rent out their real estate to holidaymakers, which were the bread and butter of the rental returns market. Although this might seem like a massive negative for Pattaya and Thailand as a whole, it has opened up new and interesting investments in rental return programs for major hotel-branded apartments. Plain and simply put: guaranteed rental return programs in hotel-branded condos are backed by multi-milliondollar marketing budgets and by the name of such high-class brands. If your apartment’s rentals don’t reach the agreed total, large hotel chains will still pay
out their promised rental returns. This can be a little sketchier when discussing smaller-scale real estate companies. It’s all about trust and reliability, which large hotel brands have in abundance. Making Your Money Work For You Did you ever wonder how people with lots of money seem to constantly make more with a minimum amount of effort? That’s because they make their money work for them. You have to speculate to accumulate, but if you don’t have the knowledge regarding the Thailand investment market, you need to align yourself with the experts. At Emerging Trends Advisors, they use their local expertise and knowledge to bring you the best investment opportunities that offers the safest way to make back money on your investments. We live in a world of opportunities, but with so many investment options around, it can be difficult to weed out the unreliable ones. Emerging Trends Advisors is the way forward for those of you looking to make money on investments in Thailand. Contact them directly today with your requirements such as how much money you have to invest and what returns you are aiming towards. t’s only natural in life to desire what you have been accustomed, and this is even more important when you live in a different country from which you were raised. One of the difficult parts about living in Asia is not having access to the myriad of Western television channels that we took for granted. If you have a quality internet connection of 7Mbps or higher, Mega Expat TV offers a revolutionary TV box with the best choice of sport, news, and movie channels from the most popular networks across the globe that will bring back the good times. Get Your MegaExpat Set-Top Box Today! I recently did some research online to find myself a quality set-top TV box to stream international channels, and after
36
PattayaCityUncovered.com
perusing online for a couple of hours, I decided on the MegaExpat set-top TV box, largely because of the vast number of channels on offers, and the most important factor – they offer high quality technical support, which is imperative if you are not a technical person such as myself. Why is this box better than the cheaper options? I had already done research on other cheaper options, but quickly released they do not offer the same support as MegaExpat TV, and with a one-time payment without any hidden charges, you get exactly what it says on the box without any dramas. The cheaper boxes in the marketplace have limited ISP bandwidths, whereas MegaExpat TV basically has its own server, ensuring optimal streaming, especially for HD TV.
What do I get for my money? You get access to a vast choice of channels and options such asNew & Classic Movies / TV Shows on demand in HD / News / Sports / Live / Catch up & On Demand, alongside television networks in a myriad of countries such as England, USA, France, Germany, Russia, Spain and many more. The list of languages is vast. I also received a state-of-the-art remote control as part of the deal that costs around the 2,000 THB mark alone. The best part was at the initial stage of enquiring about purchasing a box, the support staff at MegaExpat TV quickly assimilated if I had the right internet connection to make this a viable option, as some internet providers won’t allow access to the channels. It’s little touches like customer support that make this great value for money. Reliability, affordability and quality are the hallmarks of MegaExpat TV, so when you want to access the biggest and most popular TV networks in the world with the best speeds and quality, accept no substitutes. Pattaya City Uncovered 1,000 THB Discount Coupon As a special introductory price for Pattaya City Uncovered readers, if you mention this article to MegaExpat TV, they will give you a discount price of 8,999 THB for their set-top box, which is 1,000 THB less than the normal price. “ I fear the day
that technology will surpass our human interaction. The world will have a generation of idiots ” (Albert Einstein)
S
o quarter 1 has come to an end. This time last year there were fears over China and recession swirling around. Whilst we saw a little pull back in some of the markets in March most seem happy with the current status quo. The returns this year have been good and the general consensus is that there is still good value in the bull market out there...though of course only when invested the right places.....the raw data:
Dow J Nasdaq FTSE Dax Nikkei SSE
March -2.1% +0.1% -0.8% +1.4% -2.5% -0.2%
Q1 +4.6% +9.8% +2.5% +7.3% -1.1% +3.8%
Despite seeing a US interest rate rise in March, the US Dollar has continued to “pull back” against most major currencies, seeing the following movements:
GBP EUR JPY CNY AUD
March -2.2% -1.2% -2.5% +0.2% +0.4%
Q1 -1.6% -1.3% -5.0% -0.8% -5.9%
Whilst most of those returns look good, active investing over passive and choosing the correct managers / asset allocation should see your return be above and beyond that of the markets. Those of you who are clients are sure to own some nice tech funds that have performed great this year and many of the analysts I listen to still believe this sector to hold great value...and why not. Warren Buffet at his recent interview with CNBC explained his love of Apple in his usual typically brilliant yet simple manner. He was referring to events where people were taking photos using their smartphones and that everyone seem to have one.....These smartphones are such an integral part of all of our lives, the younger generation especially, and while sometimes we may be critical when a three year old can play any number of games on a smartphone but not tie their shoelaces or 38
PattayaCityUncovered.com
ride a bike, this for better or worse is the face of the future. The numbers and the growth potential is still there. Look at Samsung, although their smartphone sales form a significantly lower percentage of their revenue than Apple (29% versus 69%) what we remember from recent times is the problems with the S7 exploding ...... yet the share price is up 61% in the last 12 months! Apple’s share price is up 24% this year. In the last quarter of 2016, Apple made US$54bn from smart phone sales alone, that more than US$25m an hour. Today they estimate there to be 2.1 billion smartphone users. Whilst this sounds a lot bear in mind that the world’s population is now just under 7.5 billion there is certainly room for growth and also enough to go round for both the major players in this space. There has never been a more “must have” product in history. Kids need to be connected and parents will not allow issues such as financial barriers to get in the way hence the enormous market in interest free lending. As the father of two teenage boys I am sure many of you as I do used to feel a little aggrieved when you take them somewhere special and what’s the first question.....Dad , what’s the Wifi...?”...like it or loathe it you can’t escape it. All too often when I speak to potential clients they talk about market timings crashes etc. Yes of course timing matters but to quote Warren again it’s “time in not timing” that matters when selecting investments. And more so “Time in’ the right companies with products that people want and will buy, whether that product is a can of coke, a Big Mac or indeed a smartphone...

DIVORCE AGREEMENT
By: Magna Carta Law Office
A
Divorce Agreement is a legal document that allows divorcing spouses to come to an agreement regarding the terms of their divorce. This is possible in an uncontested divorce wherein the couple mutually agrees to terminate their marriage and that there are no disagreements over children or property. It lets you settle issues without the need for court actions. There is less emotional stress involved to both parties, as well as to their children and respective families as it enables the couple to end their marriage in a civilized manner because important matters are mutually agreed upon. A Divorce Agreement contains provisions regarding the terms of sharing of assets, child custody and support, visitation rights, alimony, and other important matters. It is recommended that you decide these matters beforehand and formalize them in a divorce contract. This will guarantee that there are no disagreements before you go to the registration office. Once the Divorce Agreement is signed before 2 witnesses and registered at the District Office, it becomes a binding contract and both divorcing spouses shall be obliged to follow its terms.Because the parties agree upon the terms themselves, they are likely to abide by to the agreement. In case one party violates or fails to comply with the provisions stipulated in the agreement, the other party may bring this to court for enforcement. When one or both spouse does not agree with the terms of the separation and things become complicated,or an agreement thereon cannot be reached, you’ll probably end up putting your case in court where a judge turns over to decide on all related issues. You lose control of the divorce process once a judge turns over to decide. The judge may come up with an arrangement that neither of you will be comfortable with. He may also come up with a property settlement where you lose things that were more valuable to you.
It’s highly recommended that you appoint a lawyer to make your Divorce Agreement. In casethe other party has arranged it, it is recommended that you have it reviewed by your own lawyer to make sure that important legal provisions are clearlyspecified in order to protect your interests. It is necessary that you trust the experts to help you completely understand the content of the agreement as you may miss some serious provisionsand end up losing significant rights; or if there will be some disagreements on a provision later, you may end up spending more money, trying to resolve the problem. Changing certain provisions of the divorce agreement may be necessary if there is a significant change in circumstances after the divorce has been granted. Child custody, visitation, and child support are modifiable as long as you can show a significant change in circumstances and that the new arrangement shall be in the best interest of the child. If both parties agree to the new terms, a revised agreement must be drawn up with the assistance of your lawyers to be certain that there will be no problems in the future. The revised agreement must be filed with the court to be officially enforceable.

Although they do golf tours, they don’t organize daily golf gigs, but prefer to specialize in catering for large golf groups and provide an extremely competitive ‘ground package’ that includes accommodation, transport and golf course green fee costs to simplify your whole experience. The tours are fully managed from the time you arrive to the moment you depart. Please see the contact details at the bottom of the page to contact I-Rovers for more details. Food and Live Sport in April To combat the gung-ho madness of Songkran, I-Rovers is the perfect place to escape the festivities. Come along to sample their stunning Western-style food menu that offers the famous Baht Buster Breakfast, and other snacks, sandwiches and main course meals that offer large portions for affordable prices. We would highly recommend their

Unique Nightlife options in Pattaya Muay Thai Everyone knows about Pattaya’s prowess when it comes to nightlife options, but when you have been here, seen that and done that, it’s time to find some other interesting things to do after nightfall in the city. If you are looking for something a little different that doesn’t necessarily revolve around drinking copious amounts of alcohol and making a fool of yourself, check out our interesting list of unique nightlife options in Pattaya. Pattaya Boxing World There is nothing more absorbing or fascinating than watching two people punching, elbowing and kneeing the living daylights out of each other in the name of entertainment. Even in this civilized world in which we live, we can always make time for a bit of violence! If you have never been to a muay Thai boxing event before, Pattaya Boxing World, located in front of Mini Siam in north Pattaya next to MacDonald’s, is the most popular venue in the city. The venue showcases REAL Fights every Wednesday and Friday from 8pm onwards. Some muay Thai boxing venues only have staged fights, and this is why Pattaya Boxing World is the place to go for all your combat needs. Alagkarn Theater Alangkran Theater is located on Sukhumvit Road, between Na Jomtien and HuayYai and is one of the most famous places in the city to see stunning cultural shows 6 nights of the week. This is a great place if you are a group of friends, a family or a couple. The theater itself is a true marvel, boasting a state-of-the-art hexa-theater design that can comfortably sit 2000 guests. The production takes full advantage of the theater’s unique multimedia capabilities, including two 11×15-meter screens and a 50-meter water screen. The costumes and production values of the shows are worldclass in every way. The show’s seven scenes are spread over three breathtaking acts, starting with an exploration of the beliefs of Thailand before moving on to the country’s arts and culture. The shows take you through the history of Thailand with elaborate costumes and performances. The show takes place every night of the week, except for Wednesdays, from 7 pm. Visit the Ice Bar If you are looking for a unique nightlife experience in the heart of the city, The Ice Bar, formally known as the V2O Ice Bar, is situated amidst the glamor and hedonistic Walking Street and makes for a unique experience. Known as the first and only sub-zero temperature bar in Pattaya, you can step away from the humidity on the Street and step into an oasis of cool and chic. At 15-degrees below, you can warm up with a vodka shot that is freshness personified. Winter clothing is provided. One of the most well-known characters on Walking Street is the life-size polar bear who invites you into his icy domain, although he can be a bit naughty from time to time, but that’s part of the fun!
