BRAND SPANKING NEW SHOWS
Wicked, The Lion King and Madagascar the Musical will all hit Auckland stages this winter. Wicked, the second-highest grossing musical in Broadway history, is set to play at SkyCity Theatre from 10 September 2021, The Lion King arrives at Spark Arena from 24 June and Madagascar the Musical will be showing at Kiri Te Kanawa Theatre, Aotea Centre from 8-18 July.
FLASH PUBLIC SPACES
After an extensive refurb, downtown Auckland is looking snazzier than ever. Check out Te Komititanga, the fully pedestrianised plaza outside Commercial Bay. Designed by Mana Whenua weavers, it features over 137,000 basalt pavers to mimic a whāriki (Māori welcome mat). Between the Ferry Building and Princes Wharf, Te Wānanga seemingly floats above Waitematā Harbour to enhance the waterfront, and Quay Street’s impressive upgrade will be done, dusted and looking divine very soon.
