When it comes to Fashion Week audience’s attention often focuses on what great names and brands provide for next season, as well as expectation for what the emerging talent has to offer. There is also space for those young promises of this industry, so that during MBFW important academies are also welcome. During my New York Fash ion W eek, journey I´ve got an invite for the of Academy of Art University show, where outstanding students and graduates have the incredible opportunity to present their collections and show themselves in such important event, so great was my surprise to read the press release with the list of designers which included a Colombian name Andrea Nieto, who along with Frank Tsai presented a mini men’s collection in which she was responsible for textile design.

It turns out that Andrea Nieto , B.F.A. Textile Design, grew up in Cali, Valle del Cauca, Colombia. She is on the Academy of Art University President’s Honor List with a GPA of 3.855, and was recently awarded a $10,000 scholarship through the YMA Sch olarship Fund . For the 2013 Graduation Fashion Show, Andrea created the textile designs for B.F.A. Fashion Design student Shumpei Okamoto´s senior collection.

Her work in the 2013 show earned her an internship at BCBGMAXAZRIA which was offered to her after show attendees Max and Lubov Azria viewed her work. For their collaboration in 2014 at MBFW his series of six outfits is inspired by a so-called international photographic collection “ Beauty in Decay ” or beauty in decay, personal struggles and different stages of processes of healing of mental state have in place, what in fact the young designer underwent personally.
