Dual fuel heating
Most towel warmers in the UK are connected to a central heating system, however when the heating system is turned off in summer time it is still nice to be able to warm your towels
Dual fuel allows you to have the best of both worlds with both electric and central heating and allows independent control of the towel warmer.
It operates by inserting an electric element (normally with the use of a plumbing T-piece), providing an appropriate electric supply to the element as shown in the diagram.

Bathroom Zones & IP Ratings
The bathroom is divided into zones based on a level of risk. Each zone has specific requirements regarding the installation of electrical equipment in that zone. The diagram below is only a guide. Please refer to I.E.E. Wiring Regulations for detailed information.
IP RATINGS
IP Rating: ‘X’ denotes level of security against dust particles. The second digit denotes level of ‘watertightness’.
IPX5: protected against low pressure jets. water
IPX4: protected against splashing water.
Zone 0: the area inside the bath, sink or shower tray. Not recommended for radiator fitting.
Zone 1: the area above the bath/shower tray to a height of 2.25m. Minimum rating of IPX4 should be used unless water spray will be present. In this case, a rating of IPX5 should be used.
Zone 2: the area stretching 0.6m from zone 1 and above the sink to a radius of 0.6m Minimum rating of IPX4 should be used here.
Zone 3: the area outside zones 1 & 2. Assuming water jets are not to be used for cleaning this area, lower IP ratings can be used.

An electric only towel radiator is usually best suited to apartments and commercial buildings (such as hotels) – where there is no central heating installed.
The electric only towel warmer is supplied factory filled and with the element pre-fitted.
There is a choice of standard or thermostatic elements and it is always advisable to install a separate means of electrical control.
It is important the all electric towel warmers are installed by a qualified electrician.
Electric towel warmers are often used as additional heat sources in any areas of the house with no central heating i.e conservatories, porches etc.

Towel Warmer Care
EXTERNAL CARE OF YOUR TOWEL WARMER
It is very important that consumers are aware that chrome and painted towel warmers are not selfcleaning.
Mains water can often contain many oxides and if a towel warmer is left wet for long periods of time then surface oxidation (rust) can form on the surface of the product.
We recommend that painted towel warmers are cleaned regularly with warm soapy water, or if they are particularly dirty than a vinegar solution can be used.
For metallic (i.e. chrome) radiators, we recommend that they are cleaned with a product such as Peek metal cleaner which, in addition to cleaning the radiator will offer surface protection.
INTERNAL PROTECTION OF YOUR TOWEL WARMER
It is a requirement of our guarantee (and all new heating systems) that the water within a heating system is cleaned and protected in accordance with BS7593. This is very important for all components of the heating system in addition to the towel warmer.
GENERAL
Abacus recommend the use of Fernox water treatment chemicals for the protection of our towel warmers. Fernox are world leaders in the treatment of heating systems. To protect a system in accordance with BS7593 the system should firstly be flushed with Fernox F5 cleanser (or similar) and then system be re-filled with addition of Fernox F1 Protector (or similar).
Also if your heating system suffers from magnatite (black sludge) we would recommend the installation of a Fernox TF1 Magnetic Filter which will not only protect your towel warmer and radiators but also make your heating system more efficient.
Magnatite (sludge) is a major problem with many heating systems and is caused by a build up of Oxides within the heating system. This can largely be eliminated by the installation of a Fernox TF1 Magnetic Filter. These filters will not only enhance the efficiency of a heating system, but also remove the harmful and corrosive magnatite which are a major cause of problems and failures. This is available in an ‘installer pack’ and comes complete with the F1 inhibitor and F5 cleanser which are required for protecting the system.
Never use products containing bleach on bathroom products or any cleaners or cloths of an abrasive nature.
