Nelson Mandela: 1918 – 2013 "I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear." "Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world." "It always seems impossible until its done." - Nelson Mandela “I have walked that long road to freedom. I have tried not to falter; I have made missteps along the way. But I have discovered the secret that after climbing a great hill, one only finds that there are many more hills to climb. I have taken a moment here to rest, to steal a view of the glorious vista that surrounds me, to look back on the distance I have come. But I can rest only for a moment, for with freedom comes responsibilities, and I dare not linger, for my long walk is not yet ended.”

JANUARY 2014
ETHIOPIAN CHRISTMAS
In Ethiopia, the Christmas celebrations, called Ganna, are celebrated on January 7th. Few days before the Christmas day, pilgrims travel to Lalibela, a small village in Ethiopia, where King Lalibela founded in the 12th century the Ethiopian Jerusalem. This Coptic festival of Christmas, like the christian christmas, should be understood as an astronomical interpretation, corresponding to the "(re)birth" of the Sun. December marks the winter solstice times in the northern hemisphere, at which the Sun's trajectory through the sky induces all nights lasting longer than the days. From the December 20th to January 7th, we celebrate the reverse astronomical phenomenon : the days start lengthening again.

ONLINE January 7th is also a feast in the Rastafari culture coming from Jamaica. Indeed, Ethiopia is the historical and spiritual land where is coming his Imperial Majesty Haile Sellassie, and the heart of Africa. For this festival, Nyabinghi drums are played with chants and prayers. The food eaten is vegetarian. The Kebra Nagest is open for the readings and prophecies. The rastafarians don't celebrate the christian Christmas. Some rastas agree with the feast of Kwanzaa, as this festival is based on panafrican values.

www.reggaeearthunited.com
YADDING IWAH WITH
CULTURE BROWN What about your name Culture Brown? Could you tell some very personal things which could help us to understand who you are ? Culture Brown means… well in reggae music we have different style of music example sex , violence, reality, so Culture means reality, Brown is my real surname, so I keep my stage name real, just like my family Dennis Brown… Well to understand me more is to get to know me in person , as off the stage I’m a very humble, and loving person, never swear or smoke in front of my parents, and always love to give a helping hand, anywere i can , basically im here to love not here to judge , If you have only 5 songs to featured for a show, which ones would you choose? What are your current and future projects? My 5 songs to choose would be Poor, Missing you, More love, Yadding Iwah, and Rastafari pt 1 because the song Poor, speaks of poverty and fake promises that politicians always give… Missing you, because everyone can relate, because they loose a love one, friend etc… More love speaks of Unity that we all need in the world
today no matter our race, or religions… Yadding Iwah is a song that reminds us to give praises to the Mighty Creator, and awareness… Rastafari pt 1 uplift the mind so we can know that leaders are people who should raise the standards by which they judge themselves and by which they are willing to be judged… Plus it is a message from Haile Selassie I. My current projects are writing a book on my life, working with other musicians on my independent label, mainly upcoming ones. How do you define your music ? What is / are the main message(s) coming out of your music? I hope everyone will get the message coming out of my music, as that’s what I’m trying to get across to everyone, what I have to say to the youths is to please stay focus, and try don’t get caught up in wrongs, because that can cause your life, and mess up your future Our traditional question : what is your favourite bush? What can we find in your yard? My favourite bush tea is peppermint, which I think is popular in all 14 parishes in Jamaica

Rasta di I can find all kind a bush in I n I yard like search me heart, medina, cerosie, a whole heap a bush I ya and i like the good old ganja tea as I would say
We can easily feel nowadays in the jamaican reggae music (even in the dancehall) the rebirth of the topic of Repatriation, Africa motherland, Marcus Garvey. From your point of view : Is it normal ? How can you explain this artistic movement ? Is it fake or real? what is your contribution on this topic ? For I n I the topic is real who don't want to go home to their mother land? The topic of going home to Africa was never dead... The conscious ones are always talking about it so one and ones can hear and learn... I never see it as a rebirth because it never dead... It is normal for I Rasta as i would say .. Last words are yours... i giving thanks thanks to al the ones that worked on the Angola single and all the ones and ones that support I until this I wah... G. COLE ''I lost my mother during the creation if this record...'' ''To my fans I say, first of all thanks for all the support over the years. That's the what keeps me inspired. This album is a reflection of not only who I am, but where I'm from. This album is extremely personal, I lost my mother during the creation if this record, and I was deeply affected by it, so I have songs that were inspired by, and dedicated to her. I made a major effort to not make this a sad record, but an uplifting one. I wanted this album to bring smiles to peoples faces. Though there are some heavy content on it, it remains feel good music, something to put in to lift your spirits, and I am so glad the fans get that, and understood that from the get go. This record was created for you to put in, press play, sit back, and let it take you to a great place, a place filled with love, life, and music.''

ARTIST OF THE MONTH
G COLE Standing outside Rafaela’s in Fort Lauderdale, it’s after 2:00am and people are finally leaving, everyone carrying signed posters or a copy of G Cole’s brand new album “Ocho Rios”. All looking quite pleased, and rightfully so, they just attended a listening party for G Cole’s new album and were the first to hear the complete record and see him perform two songs. A beautiful record it is.This is the second album from the singer from Ocho Rios Jamaica. The first “This Music Vol 1” was released in 2007, and since then he’s been traveling and taking his music to the world with his band “Wraps and Kush”, a talented group of musicians who also hail from Jamaica. There were several members of the reggae community as well as radio and media persons in attendance, each got to ask questions in an open forum. It’s here that I found out the story of this album, a personal record indeed, it has songs about and dedicated to the ladies in his life; his daughter, his wife, and his late mother. Emotions were very apparent when he spoke about his mother, whom he lost only a few months earlier. This record drips with love, not just erotic, and family love, but love for his homeland Jamaica, love for the almighty and love for his hometown Ocho Rios, which the title track is about. It speaks of Ocho Rios as a woman he has long loved. The album is very smooth and mature, it takes you on a journey into the heart of a man who loves
and hurts, but enjoys being jovial and playful, in fact playful can be used to describe the one dancehall/soca crossover song “Hot Sexy Love” that talks about the reverse roles of a woman pursuing a man, whom she desires despite their friendship or his relationship status. There are some sweet acoustic tracks too. “Hands that rock the cradle” a deep tale about the abuse of a young girl and a young man by those who were supposed to protect them. However, the song’s heavy content is made very palatable by pretty guitar melodies, and a happy flute. “Old Days” is a lovely rockers tune that evokes memories, taking you back to when dancehall was so nice. Impressively eight of the fourteen tracks on the album are live, and features production by Jason (JVibe) Farmer, Vinni Hamilton, Duwayne Shotta Hoilett, and Johnny Wonder. Overall “Ocho Rios” is an excellent record. Reggae music is alive and well. If you don’t have a copy of Ocho Rios, you need to get one ASAP. G Cole you struck gold with this one.

The artist who sing in the Dancehall is called a dancehall artist... Dancehall have rules too... the rulse are...you must have food in the dancehall... Dancehall in a healthy place. The Natty Dread Riddim is a tribute to the iconic tune ‘Natty Dread A Weh She Want’, recorded back in the seventies by the legendary Horace Andy.
LISTEN THE NATTY DREAD RIDDIM
The original riddim was produced by Tapper Zukie featuring the legendary Horace Andy at a time when dancehall was overtaking roots music. This great tune was released on the Trojan label in 1978 and the track stayed at the #1 spot for over 3 months. The Natty Dread Riddim is the 2013 remake of the ‘Natty Dread A Weh She Want’ of Horace Andy. It is another contribution to keeping the roots spirit over the 'Rumhall' spirit overtaking the Dancehall nowadays. The jamaican producer Bassa Aka Trevor Elliot turned to the maestro to build the new instrumental version of this riddim. On this new composition we find cutting tracks including features with Errol Organs, Joseph Cotton, Mark Ffrench and many other authentic roots singers.
