Lyon Manufacturing Lyon Equipment manufactures a huge range of products for work at height and rescue for customers throughout the world. Originally set up to produce durable tackle bags for cavers, Lyon Manufacturing has grown in size and scope to a point where we can offer a highly professional production service for customers needing Personal Fall Protection, technical and non-technical textile and wire based products. As well as producing the high quality individual items you will see in this price list, we also assemble equipment into bespoke kits that will enable customers, with specific training, to undertake work or rescues from height or confined spaces.

Additionally, we are able to offer a sewn product manufacturing service for a diverse range of custom products. We can do this because our UK base allows rapid prototyping and production ensuring that you receive the product you need at the right time and price. Whilst we’re happy to work to instruction, producing products from a customer’s design, many customers have benefitted from our ability to develop solutions from scratch.

The Lyon Equipment Work & Rescue Training Centre delivers authoritative instruction and certification for work and rescue at height and in difficult to access places. Customers come from all sectors involving work at height, including industrial rope access, utilities, industry, entertainment, rescue and the emergency services. Our courses are delivered in accordance with BS 8454:2006 Code of Practice for the delivery of training and education for work at height and rescue. Many have been audited and approved by external organisations such as RoSPA, Qualifications Network, IRATA and Arqiva.

Whatever your requirements for work at height or rescue, we can provide training to meet your needs. In addition to our ‘standard’ courses we also offer bespoke training designed specifically around our customer’s needs.

Product Focus... Stainless Steel Wire Anchor Strop In response to safety concerns in the offshore petrochemical industry over spark generation between galvanised wire ends and corroded steelwork, LYON are able to offer a stainless steel and copper version of our highly successful EN 795 wire anchor strops. The Stainless Steel wire strops have the same physical dimensions and handling properties as the galvanised version, but with the benefits of reduced spark potential and increased corrosion resistance. Our wire anchor strops also benefit from enhanced product marking, making important information on use clear to the user.

Galvanised Steel Wire Anchor Strop

When used for a one person load they meet EN 795:2012 Type B ‘Personal fall protection equipment - Anchor devices’, and when used for a two person load during rescue activity they comply with PD CEN/TS 16415:2013 Type B ‘Personal fall protection equipment – Anchor devices – Recommendations for anchor devices used by more than one person simultaneously’. This information, along with minimum breaking loads, unique identification number etc. is placed on resiliently protected labels at each end of the strop.

Small Animal Rescue Bag

The small animal rescue bag is a straightforward no-nonsense solution for containing smaller domestic and wild animals that need to be recovered using technical rescue systems. Developed a few years ago for a specific customer need, we get so many requests from people who have seen it in use we have decided to make it a standard product. Manufactured from textile webbing and PVC, the bag is compact when stored, yet provides a generous 190 ltr capacity with a working load limit of 50kg. The bag is provided with a twin closure system for security and numerous external handles for manoeuvring when loaded.A tape lanyard is included for maintaining attachment to the rescue system during loading and closing. For example, a customer of ours had a bespoke requirement for a fire resistant sewn webbing ladder for helicopter evacuation; we worked closely with them and successfully put it into production – within budget and before deadline. Most people’s needs are less extreme than that example. However, you can take comfort knowing that your requirement may not be as challenging to us as it might at first appear to you. We continue to invest both in state of the art machinery and in expanding our highly skilled manufacturing team, all located in our purpose built facility, here in Cumbria. Waterproof Bag Informa on IPX Ra ngs What do you mean by 100% Waterproof? Aquapac says: The IPX Scale Some brands have tried to invent their own definitions of waterproofing. Actually an international standard already exists – so at Aquapac we use that. The international standard is called IEC 60529 – Degrees of Protection Provided by Enclosures and it was developed by a technical committee of the International Electrotechnical Commission.

In the USA it has been adopted by the National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) as an American National Standard. Independent Testing ®

When we patented the Aquaclip sealing system it was submitted for independent testing. The IPX8 testing was for 30 minutes at the equivalent of a depth of 30ft /10m. ® Some of the Aquaclips proved waterproof at much greater depths (our Keymaster™ case for example is 100% waterproof to 50m /165ft). In-House Testing During manufacture we batch-test the IPX8 Submersible cases in our pressure chamber, also to the equivalent of 30ft /10m underwater. We also subject them to a simple manual squeeze-in-a-basin test (sometimes it’s the real-life tests that really count!)

Product Focus... FOIN 4249 Connector

Possibly the most widely used steel karabiners in the UK for rope access, the FOIN range of karabiners have been the cost effective choice for decades. Where operating conditions are harsh and more delicate designs can suffer, the no–nonsense traditional FOIN construction, utilising high quality 10mm galvanic protected carbon steel bar, balances strength, toughness and economy to produce a connector that offers good service life for the minimum of investment.

The frame shape and gate closure options offered by FOIN make selection of an appropriate connector for use in work positioning and fall arrest systems straightforward. Oval frames can be useful where devices such as pulleys need to sit in a stable, central position when loaded, D shapes draw the load nearer the spine of the connector to maximise ultimate strength. For bulk users we offer box quantities of our most popular FOIN models, enabling further cost savings to be made. All FOIN connectors can be ordered with personal serialisation, either by laser or engraving processes, see our bespoke services section on page 61 for details and costs.

Product Focus... Maillon Rapides

Péguet has been dedicated to the manufacturing of Maillon Rapide® quick links for over three generations. Originally looking for a solution in traction chain repair in agriculture, this versatile connection was invented by Péguet over 80 years ago and has since found applications in industries across the globe. Péguet now provides Maillon Rapide® connectors in a wide range of shapes, dimensions and materials, all having at their heart a simple, reliable and durable connection design. The core product range covers approximately 180 different WLL /CE marked items, available in materials such as zinc plated steel, stainless steel or aluminium alloy. These products are aimed at applications in handling facilities, aeronautics, agriculture, architecture, DIY, entertainment, military, parachuting, fisheries, sailing and railways.

There is also a specific product range of 22 items available as PPE (personal protective equipment), certified in accordance with European standards EN 362 and EN 12275. These PPE items may be used in work restraint, positioning and fall arrest systems and also mountain and indoor climbing, adventure park operations, caving and canyoning. Bespoke shape and colour finishing is available from Péguet depending on volumes required.

How to Choose Maillons - Connectors Cer fica on & Traceability - Important Informa on CE self-certified Maillon Rapides - Suitable for any application except for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). The marking is the guarantee of the product conforming to the Maillon Rapide technical specification.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Maillon Rapides - Certified for use as PPE against falls from height in the work place and in mountaineering/climbing. Manufactured in accordance with: EN 362:2004 Personal protective equipment against falls from a height – Connectors EN 12275:1998 Mountaineering equipment – Connectors – Safety requirements and test methods

Unique Marking PPE certified Maillon Rapide quick links - EN 362 / EN 12275 have a unique number laser etched on the locking nut. This assists users who require individual marking for traceability in their own systems. The numbers are factory applied and randomly generated. It is not possible to supply items with consecutive numbers. We can offer specifi c laser marking or engraving of Maillon Rapides: Batch or sequential numbering and logos can be re-produced by laser. Sizes vary depending on the available flat space on the item. For logos an artwork charge is applicable, once your artwork has been processed we will send you a proof document which MUST be signed and returned before we can start production. Bespoke Marking - Metal Products Laser Marking & Engraving Lyon Equipment is able to offer a bespoke marking service on new and unused metal products.

This service is available for new and unused metal items. Batch or sequential numbering and logos can be re-produced. However font sizes will vary depending on the available flat space on the item. For logos an artwork charge is applicable. Please note: if your artwork is particularly complex additional charges may apply, we will advise you of this when we receive your artwork and before you incur any costs. Once your artwork has been processed we will send you a proof document which MUST be signed and returned before we can start production. Examples of laser marking are shown alongside, if you are unsure we recommend buying a sample item before ordering in quantity. Due to U.V. emissions a Laser Marking Service is not available on items with textile components attached i.e. harnesses. Engraving is still available for new and unused metal items. Batch or sequential numbering up to 10 characters can be applied.

Product Focus... Larkin Rescue Frame

The LARKIN RESCUE FRAME is currently in use with many specialist sectors of the UK Emergency Services and provides an elegant solution to difficult or hazardous edge transitions. Designed to provide an elevated, tiltable redirection point, the LARKIN RESCUE FRAME can be used very close to an edge because the rescue load can, in full-size configuration, be landed within the tilted frame. Unlike a conventional tripod the LARKIN RESCUE FRAME does not need to span the void: it sits on one side and reaches out to provide a redirect high above and well away from the edge.

The frame is constructed of high tenacity aluminium alloy for the best balance between strength and weight, and has a safe working load of 400 kilograms. Manufacture of the LARKIN RESCUE FRAME is certified to AS/NZS ISO 9001:2008 quality standards, ensuring superb component quality and a long and reliable service life. The line launching system was showcased at the Lyon Emergency Services workshop and gained immediate orders from UK Fire and Rescue Services searching for ways to get a trace line across moving water or a gorge. The new LAUNCH PAD multi compartment bag provides ‘grab and go’ transport, storage and protection for the whole system in one package, keeping items close to hand and reducing the risk of critical components being left behind. The bag has the capacity to carry the SHERRILL BIG SHOT catapult head, two extension poles, two PETZL JET shot bags and the PETZL ECLIPSE collapsible trace line bag filled with PETZL AIRLINE trace line. Kohlbrat & Bunz Stretchers Founded in 1930, Kohlbrat & Bunz is a family firm with a long history in the manufacture of emergency medical and rescue equipment. Training centres and educational establishments run through exercises time after time, dragging, skidding and manhandling loaded stretchers in harsh environments in a punishing routine. For these users, where a little more weight and stiffness is not an issue, we can offer for 2017 a ‘heavy duty’ base plate for the Kolbrat and Bunz RL3000-RX model stretcher. Manufactured in a rugged 3mm thick black plastic to differentiate it from the standard model, the base plate accepts all the thorax, pelvic, leg, lumbar protection inserts and foot supports from the RL3000-RX. The heavy duty base plate is available as a stock spare part, easily retrofitted by the user. The Lyon EDGE GUARD stainless steel edge protectors are part of a family of Lyon edge protection systems. Versatile, compact and lightweight, the EDGE GUARD’s clever design stems from the unique knowledge and experience of the Lyon Equipment team. Made entirely from polished stainless steel with rope friendly contact surfaces, its angular shapes on the end plates and load bearing surfaces are there to make the most efficient use of the forces created when a rope is loaded. When used on plate edges such as steel toe boards, the four triangular ‘teeth’ on the end plates grip the edge with a camming action. The more rope pressure applied to the EDGE GUARD the firmer onto the edge it locks, reducing its potential for movement. Walking Aids Mudders Overshoes Wetland, marshes and coastal edges are known as difficult areas to traverse effectively on foot, but moving quickly through waterlogged construction sites or urban parkland can also be problematical. To help traverse such terrain Lyon sourced an innovative product that can make walking on mud, snow, sand or other soft surfaces easier. MUDDERS are a cleverly designed overshoe that attach to existing footwear with robust ladder-lock buckles. Each overshoe has hinged ‘wings’ that automatically spread only when the foot is placed on soft terrain, effectively quadrupling the surface area and significantly reducing the ground pressure applied. The clever hinging action of the ‘wings’ also reduces the suction effect when lifting the foot, reducing effort at every step. Designed for long life, MUDDERS use carefully selected materials to produce a light, easily maintained and robust product that have already found favour with industrial and Emergency Service users. Abbrevia ons & Glossary CE

The CE mark against a product in this price list confirms that the product complies with a European Directive. Please note that the CE mark is applied to many products which are not Personal Protective Equipment (e.g. children’s toys). For most cases this is the PPE Directive (89 / 686 / EEC).

European Norm (or standard). These norms replace the relevant national standards of member states of the European Community. ENs are referred to when assessing whether a product may have the CE mark affixed.

PPE

Personal Protective Equipment.

Dynamic

Used to describe rope which is designed to absorb and dissipate the energy of shock loads from large falls (up to fall factor 2).

Low stretch

Used to describe ropes which are not designed to withstand falls greater than fall factor one. They do have some ability to absorb shock loads.

Fall Factor

A figure indicating the relative severity of a fall. It is obtained by dividing the total length of the fall by the length of rope holding the fall.

kilonewtons. A thousand Newtons (see below).

Newton. This is the international unit of force. 9.81 N is the force required to suspend a mass of 1 kg under the force of gravity. It is commonly approximated to 10 N. (In common parlance 1 kg = 10 N).

Breaking load. See MBL

MBL

Minimum Breaking Load. The minimum load at which an item of equipment can fail when it is new.

WLL

Working Load Limit. The maximum load (as determined by the manufacturer) that an item of equipment is designed to raise, lower or suspend.

SWL

Safe Working Load. The maximum load (as certified by a competent person) which an item of equipment may raise, lower or suspend under particular service conditions. The SWL can be lower than the WLL, or greater than it.
