Back again, and I'd like to say that I had a blast at Meeting of the Minds, but an 800 plus pound Elk had other plans. It pretty much destroyed a brand new Dodge pick up on our way there, so I didn’t make it. Better luck next year. We just started working on Motorcycle Day at the Dome 2015, the tentative date is Tuesday,

February 24, 2015, more to come next month.

Dakota, North Carolina, and Virginia.

We are researching the new automobiles that will stop without input from the driver. The question that we want answered about these vehicles is “Will the device respond to a motorcycle, or a bicycle, or a child?” We will let you know what we find.

Elections are getting closer, please everybody ~ get out there and VOTE IN YOUR VEST. If you don't, and you don't like how things turn out, you have no one to blame but yourself.

We are still working on the handle bar height issue. If we take away the reasons why they pull us over, maybe they will have to have valid reasons, or get more creative.

As for our recent request for left turn arrow traffic lights that do not respond to motorcycles, I have received only 3 reports of intersections not responding to motorcycles in the last month. Not very promising.

The Motorcycle Lobby Team just started to research the feasibility of permanent plates for motorcycles. We have found 4 states that we believe already have them; Montana, South

Greetings Fellow Freedom Fighters,

Our ANNUAL MEMBER MEETING will be held Saturday, November 1st, 11am-3pm at the ABATE Phoenix Office located at the Arizona American Italian Club, 7509 N. 12th Street, Phoenix. We’ll have Board of Directors elections, Wayne Wierson coming in from Idaho as our guest speaker, silent auction, ABATE apparel, bike games, kids games, live music, food available and lots of friends!! Admission is FREE! Come on out and bring some kids!

I had the pleasure of attending the Motorcycle Rider’s Foundation (MRF) “Meeting of the Minds” (MOTM) September 25th – 28th in Kansas City, MO. I was accompanied by Jean Cooper (ABATE State Secretary), Jim Silk (ABATE State Safety), and Dawn Steed (ABATE East Valley FUTURE officer!). As soon as the shuttle arrived at the Embassy Suites, I was warmly greeted by Lane Triplett who just rode in from Idaho. I could already feel the positive energy that surrounded this gathering of motorcycle activists.

The Freedom of Road Riders (FORR) hosted the event in grand style. Each of their members dressed in pioneer and cowboy costumes and were very gracious to all of us. The hospitality suite continually had plenty of food and beverages for donations. They set up a couple of fund-raisers like “Kiss the bull” where you could pay to kiss a very large & friendly pitbull dog named Biscuit. They also had costumes to wear for old-time photos, charging only a $10 donation for an 8’x10’ brown-nwhite pic, all proceeds went to the MRF. The AZ crew had a group pic taken in costume and we all took a copy home. I attended the “Interacting with the Media” seminar by Mike Berger from Minnesota, who talked about being

proactive with the media, go to them, give them a reason to tell our story, do your research and present yourself as an expert, make their job easier and make yourself available, practice your presentation in front of a mirror, don’t be a slob or wear sunglasses, always control the dialogue, never get into a statistics debate and always be courteous.

I also attended “Biker-to-Biker, Communicating your message clearly to both your members and the riding public” by Marlene Bautch, “Auntie ABATE” from Wisconsin. She suggests you make it clear if your statement is that of the State Motorcycle Rights Organization (SMRO) or your personal opinion. Effective communication occurs only if the receiver understands the exact information or idea that the sender intended to transmit. So, repeat back what you heard. Provide a safe structure for people to solve their problems, negotiate and/or share ideas, people are more comfortable talking to someone “like them” who understands their concerns and perspective, stay on topic and appropriate for your audience, use non-verbal communication; eye contact, facial expression, gestures and posture, voice modulation, humor. Peers are less threatening to talk to than authority figures and this promotes honesty and willingness to collaborate, helping them grow and accept changes. Recognize talent, help mentor it and show appreciation. All of the ABATE of AZ team attended “Lobbying and Testifying for Novices” by Bruce Downs from ABATE of Colorado. He reviewed the process of getting a bill through the Colorado legislation, which differs from AZ in length, process and terminology. Regarding testifying before a committee, when representing a group, the best speaker should be chosen ahead of time to speak. Know what you want to say when testifying, be courteous and brief.

East Valley Chapter

On Sunday, September 28, 2014, East Valley members gathered at the FOE building in Mesa. Headed by Joe, the meeting went well as we reported on and discussed chapter business, new and old.

Noticeably absent from the meeting - for good reason - was Mary K, Jim Silk and Dawn Steed. They were at Meeting of the Minds. I have heard from all them since their return, and each one was pumped up about their experience there and about the valuable information they gleaned from this grand Motorcycle Rights convention.

We were also fortunate to have several new faces at the chapter meeting. Subsequently, 3 couples joined the East Valley Chapter of ABATE of AZ: Michael and Dawn, John and Lynette, and Noma and Shad. In fact, the East Valley chapter has had about 11 new members join in the last month, along with several renewals. I hope we can strive to make you all feel welcome and at home here. We need and appreciate your support.

We also started to discuss chapter officer nominations for the next year. I encourage all those that have to desire to serve, to step up and help ease the workload, and take a more active role in fighting for our motorcycling way of life.

As of this writing, the Hard Ass Run 2014 is in the books. Jim Silk pulled off a successful run. As I understand it, this run had the largest turn out in the history of Hard Ass. We started in Mesa at What The Hell Bar and Grill, traveled to Jake’s Corner, continued on to Globe, and then went to the River Bottom in Florence via Winkleman. The end stop was at Post 138 in Tempe. Everybody seemed to really enjoy themselves. A sincere thank you to all of you who came out to support our chapter and ride with us.

This is a busy time of year for riding, with so many runs to choose from. Whatever paths you elect to travel this riding season, may you all appreciate being in the wind and the freedom of the road. On behalf of the East Valley Chapter of ABATE of AZ, I wish you all safe and enjoyable riding. All the best, Larry Keim COMMS, VC, PAC

High Country Chapter

Hello Brothers and Sisters.

The weather up here is changing and has been excellent for riding. The occasional storm rolls in once in a while, so make sure to pack your wet weather gear as our weather patterns here in the High Country are very unpredictable. Do your best to stay dry. Practice good maintenance on your bike and ride safe.

We have been very busy up here with our chapter elections. We have had several positions that have been open for some time. I am happy to see that some of our members have stepped up to fill them. It is always good to have new people get involved. This helps to bring in new thoughts and new ideas. I would like to encourage all our members to get involved, and to maybe step into an officers position, because you never know; you may have the ideas that can improve your chapter and ABATE in general. After our meeting last month, some of us took a ride south. We stopped at Jake's Corner briefly, for a drink and some

lunch. Afterwards some went down to Punkin Center and talked to the owner about possibly having an event there in the future. I would like to see this happen.

Secretary, Dee Schultz and myself, peeled away from the pack and headed to the valley to see Bruce Knight. As I mentioned in last months report, he was seriously injured in a motorcycle accident due to deer on the road. I am happy to report that he is recovering rather well despite a few set backs, that required unexpected surgeries. However; our members passed the hat, and with the help of Rim Country District MMA also passing the hat at their meeting, we took up a collection to help him. Dee and I visited with him and presented him the get well wishes and generous donations. He was very grateful and it really seemed to raise his spirit.

A few High Country Chapter members will be volunteering at Jake's Corner for an event to help support Breast Cancer Awareness this Oct. Unfortunately it was a little short notice to be able to fully promote this event with a lot of advertisement. At least we will be there for support. Robin Heppler, the owner of Jake's, came to us for help. We told her we will do what we can to help. Billy Hensler has mentioned doing an event for this cause in the past. Something like "Save the Twins Mountain Style" comes to mind. Perhaps this is an opportunity to work together to put on an event such as this for the following year. We will keep everyone posted. If you log on to our High Country Chapter ABATE Facebook page and click on the "like" button, you will receive notifications of all our upcoming events.

I would like to remind everyone of our State Officer Election Rally Nov.1 2014 at the American Italian Club in Phx. Please come out and show support. Support that which supports you and your right to ride free. All are invited to our monthly meetings. High Country Chapter meets at the Moose Lodge in Star Valley Az. every 3rd Sun. of the month at 10:00am. Breakfast is available at the Spur Bar across the

street at 8:30am. A delicious breakfast for $4.50 and bloody mary's $2.00. Keep wind in your face, sun on your back, fuel in the tank, and rubber on the road. Wayne Slocum Coordinator, H.C.C. ABATE

Phoenix/Shadow Mountain Chapter

We had another great meeting this month. Those who went on the Moon Mullins Run told us how great the weather was, and the great view looking down into the valley on the way back in. Jean Cooper shared her experience of her trip to Meeting of the Minds, and what the biggest concerns were nationally. It seems that distracted drivers and helmet laws were at the top of the list.

There was also a lot of conversation on the possibility of permanent licence plates in Arizona. This is in its’ early stages and it is still a research project. As the research progresses, we will be able to decide if this will be beneficial or not. We also spoke of the upcoming election rally on Nov. 1st being held at the

MASTERLINK NOVEMBER 2014

Arizona American Italian Club.

Our next meeting will be at 10:30 AM, Nov 9th. Steve Palmer Phoenix-Shadow Mountain ABATE Communications Officer

Southern Arizona Chapter

N22 Southern AZ members gathered at the Kettle at I-10 and Starr Pass Saturday Morning, September 20th. We shared breakfast before heading next door to the meeting room that is graciously provided to us at no charge.

Jim spoke about the ACMC meeting at the Huns in Tucson where the hot topics were profiling, the SOG Fund and Save the Patch. This is a serious issue as law enforcement makes no distinction between 3 patch clubs, leisure riders, HOG, CMA or independents. Every motorcyclist in GITEM’s eyes are criminals that must be proven innocent. I am fairly sure the burden of proof is supposed to be the other way around as innocent until proven guilty. AMSAF was awarded scholarship revenues to get more motorcyclists endorsed with rider education costing only $50 instead or around $300 from the State MSF that is partially funded by the $1 registration fees as well as federal grant money from Highway Bill namely the SAFETEA-LU funding or 2010 funds.

Opting to view and download the Masterlink from the website will save ABATE a lot of money. Please go green and save ABATE some green, so we can spend on MAP, Rider, Ed, Safety, Accident Scene Management, White Bandannas, and protecting the motorcycling life style.

Our next Road cleanup for our mile just east SR90 & SR82 will be Saturday, October 25th. The more the merrier, and since we have done such a regular job atypically only takes us a couple hours. A free lunch is included afterwards. We will meeting at Buddy’s Bar at 11:00 AM. If unable to make the Elections/membership meeting SA 01 NOV at AAIC, then attend the Sacred Bones event, Bones for Blankets (for the homeless and those in need) noon 4:00 PM at Shooters: 3115 Prince Underwear sizes 32-36 and socks also in need.

Steve won the 50/50. I forgot to record who won the disc lock raffle prize. Roger Taft won the dollar jar, but was not present so that amount rolls over to the next meeting. Next Meeting is 9:00 AM on Saturday, 10/18/14 at the Kettle 748 West Starr Pass Boulevard; Tucson, AZ 85713. Come early for breakfast to meet southern AZ members to socialize before the meeting around 9:00 AM.

State legislation is quiet, but election campaigns are busy. Be sure to vote and actively support a candidate to gain allies in the legislature. Knowing your legislators is a good start, but when they know you then we can gain greater impact. The Lobby team is formulating feasible bills to run and more details will be determined based on who gets elected, sponsors we can get and potential bills needed to oppose as ABATE is a watch dog for discriminatory and irresponsible motorcycle legislation.

FLORIDA STATE FAIR SETTLES CIVIL RIGHTS LAWSUIT In a big win for motorcycle club members nationwide, the Florida State Fair and local law enforcement were dealt a stunning blow when they agreed to settle a Civil Rights lawsuit filed by Aid to Injured Motorcyclists (A.I.M.) attorney Jerry Theophilopoulos (“Jerry T”) on behalf of the West Florida Confederation of Clubs.

The Florida State Fair and Fair employees, along with two Hillsborough County Sheriffs agreed to pay three members of the West Florida Confederation of Clubs a total of $72,500 to settle the case after

What Is ABATE?

Coast to Coast

nearly a hundred club members were denied entry into the fair by off-duty sheriff’s deputies on Feb. 7, 2010 based on the fact they would not remove their colors.

A posted policy banned “club colors” and the bikers were threatened with jail if they attempted to enter the front gate of the fair, and AIM lawyer Jerry T. captured the entire event on film with a videographer, which was a pivotal reason the federal lawsuit was settled out of court.

“This settlement is a great day for all motorcycle club members, not only in the state of Florida, but across America,” said Jerry T., “We sent a message that our people will not be discriminated against in a public forum.”

After the lawsuit, the no-club-colors signs were replace by a posted policy stating that the fair may turn away or eject people who are disruptive or who display behavior associated with “criminal gang membership.” That cleared the way for bikers to attend subsequent fairs.

MORE MOTORCYCLES EQUALS SAFER ROADS According to the Motorcycle Industry

Association (MCIA), an increased number of motorcycles on the road results in a lower rate of serious accidents. When 10% or more of vehicles on the road are motorcycles, mopeds or scooters, there is a proportionate reduction in rider fatalities, says Steve Kenward, CEO of the MCIA, a motorcycle trade association in England.

Japan has 98 bikes per 1,000 vehicles (9.8%), and for every 1,000 bikes on the road, the country has 0.8 motorcyclist fatalities per year. In Europe the ratio of bikes to cars is lower, at 73 per 1,000 (7.3%), and the rate of motorcyclist fatalities is higher, at 1.52 per 1,000 bikes. In the USA, the ratio of bikes to cars is just 27 per thousand (2.7%) and the motorcyclist fatality rate is much higher, at 5.32 per thousand bikes. Kenward told how “volume breeds safety” at the recent National Safer Roads Partnerships’ Conference, where police forces, local authorities, government officials and academics meet to discuss road safety. There is also a growing body of evidence that those who start their motoring career on motorcycles make better car drivers.

Join A.B.A.T.E.

With congestion on the rise, Kenward explained that getting more motorists on motorcycles would result in a “virtuous circle” leading to better road users.

According to their research, an increase in motorcycle use has also been proven to keep traffic flowing. A study which models traffic for one of the busiest roads in Europe concluded that if just 10% of drivers swapped to powered two wheelers (PTWs), congestion would be reduced for all road users by 40%. Increase that number to 25% and congestion is eliminated entirely. SIKHS DENIED EXEMPTION FROM ONTARIO HELMET LAW Motorcycle-riding Sikhs in Ontario, Canada will not be exempted from the helmet law, Premier Kathleen Wynne has ruled. The Canadian Sikh Association received a letter from Wynne stating the Liberal government, for safety reasons, will not allow Sikh motorcycle riders to wear only turbans as two other Canadian Provinces currently allow.

The Ontario Highway Traffic Act requires all motorcyclists to wear a helmet. This poses a problem for those of the Sikh faith, whose turbans don’t fit under most helmets. “After careful deliberation, we have determined that we will not grant this type of exemption as it would pose a road safety risk,” Wynne said in her letter dated Aug. 14.

Wynne said safety trumps religious freedoms in this case. “As you know, the issue of balance between religious accommodation and public safety has been considered by the courts in Ontario which, on this issue, have found that Ontario’s mandatory helmet law does not infringe on the Charter of Rights and Freedoms, nor the Ontario Human Rights Code,” she said. In 2008, an Ontario judge ruled against a human rights challenge launched by a devout Sikh who was fined $110 in 2005 for not wearing a helmet while riding a motorcycle.

NDP MPP Jagmeet Singh (BramaleaGore-Malton) said he was “deeply disappointed by Premier Wynne’s decision not to grant an exemption to motorcycle helmet laws for turbaned Sikhs. Similar exemptions already exist in the United Kingdom, Manitoba and British Columbia, and here in Ontario the idea is supported by members from all three caucuses.”

Coast to Coast (continued) MSF MOTORCYCLE SAFETY STUDY TO IMPROVE COUNTERMEASURES The Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF) has announced that the data-acquisition phase of the MSF 100 Motorcyclists Naturalistic Study is now completed, and preliminary results are being shared at various transportation safety venues around the world.

The MSF partnered with the Virginia Tech Transportation Institute on this world’s first, large-scale, naturalistic motorcycle riding study. The 3.5-year study began by collecting data from instruments installed on motorcycles owned by study participants as the bikes were ridden in normal day-to-day use. Sensors and video cameras recorded all motorcycle operator inputs such as steering, acceleration, braking and lean, as well as recording all motions of the motorcycle, current riding conditions and the actions of surrounding traffic. The motorcycle instrumentation was designed to be as inconspicuous as possible, so that participant-riders would forget their rides were being monitored. “The MSF 100 study is being conducted to support motorcycle safety research, with particular emphasis on results that offer ongoing guidance in rider training,” said MSF’s Director of Quality Assurance and Research, Dr. Sherry Williams. “The study utilizes a naturalistic methodology that provided researchers with information captured by instruments installed on one-hundred motorcycles ridden for a

combined nine-thousand-plus hours by real riders in real riding conditions.”

The MSF 100 Study, which tracked participants in Virginia, California, Florida and Arizona, is expected to be a rich source of insight for years to come on a wide range of questions and points of interest for an international array of safety professionals generally, but riders and rider safety professionals specifically.

All 100 riders on their equipped motorcycles have completed the data acquisition phase of the study, and the analysis phase is now yielding preliminary results.

NSW AUSTRALIA LEGALIZES LANE FILTERING This summer the state government of New South Wales legalized lane filtering, which allows motorcyclists to legally ride between two lanes when traffic is stationary or slow moving. The idea behind legalizing lane filtering was to reduce traffic congestion and queuing at intersections.

There are strict conditions attached, which include heavy fines and three demerit points for motorcyclists caught moving between traffic at more than 30 kilometers/hour, under a new offense called lane splitting. It is also illegal for motorcyclists to lane filter next to a curb, next to parked cars or in school zones. Police say that early indicators show the new legislation is working, but many motorists are still unaware of the new

rules. Other road users (motorists, cyclists and pedestrians) are advised by the Roads and Maritime to “check twice” for motorcyclists and follow regular road rules.

BIKER PROFILING New demographics prepared by the Motorcycle Industry Council (MIC) show the median age of California motorcycle owners was 45 years old in 2012 -- having risen from 33 years in 1990, 38 years in 1998 and 41 years in 2009. Statistics show that the median income for motorcyclists in the Golden State was $64,130 in 2012, more than double what it was in 1990. More than 60% reported their annual household incomes at over $50,000, with almost 20% reporting incomes of over $100,000. Almost three quarters of them were employed. About 14% were retired. CALIFORNIA SIDE X SIDES UNDER NEW JURISDICTION Good news for offroaders as ABATE of California Lobbyist James Lombardo has announced that AB 988 was signed into law by Governor Jerry Brown on August 25th.

AB 988 is Assemblyman Brian Jones’ bill that puts Side X Sides (Rhinos, Razors, etc) under the jurisdiction of the new Motor Vehicle Board and as such will

Motorcycle Riders Foundation (MRF) is looking for an Arizona State Representative

The men and women involved in the MRF's State Rep Program are dedicated volunteers from the membership ranks who are willing to give their time and energy to build, maintain and enhance the relationship between the MRF and all motorcyclists within their states. They must work closely with the State Motorcyclists' Rights Organizations, attending their meetings and events, keeping the SMROs abreast of national issues, international issues, and issues affecting motorcylists in other states.

MRF State Reps promote the MRF by all possible means, such as making presentations to SMROs and other groups. Writing articles for newspapers and newsletters, membership recruiting, and speaking to individual motorcyclists are other examples of promoting the MRF.

Arizona does not have an MRF State Rep at this time. If you are interested in applying for the position, some of the requirements for appointment are:

MASTERLINK NOVEMBER 2014

By Handi, S.R.M.C. & A.B.A.T.E. State PAC Taken in part from the MRF Sept/Oct issue.

The Biker Rights Movement started years ago to protect your ability to ride with a helmet or not. I enjoy having a choice and I am not alone. The Motorcycle Riders Foundation supports the efforts of A.B.A.T.E. and is in tune with the struggles and accomplishments of SMRO’s nationally.

November elections are upon us and all riders need to research and vote for the candidates that offer the motorcycle community a voice and are accessible to their constituents.

Several accomplishments around the Country made on our behalf include: Roadway difficulty maps, awareness signs, red light bills, noise ordinances, right to repair, definition of auto cars,

PAC Report

insurance bills, Share the Road programs, Team Arizona offering Rider Training classes, equal access, helmet laws, (repealing and fighting against), working with COC’s and the U.S. Defenders, child passenger bills, veteran tags, crash and statistical analysis, fatal crash analysis and working with DOT’s around the country. I’ve said this before but I will repeat these words until these issues change for the better.

-Motorcycle only check points (HB 1861) (SB 2078) These bills need your support.

-Ethanol 15. EPA admitted it has a limited market, and it has been proven to be bad for our bikes. (HR 875) will halt the sale until E 15 has been further studied.

-Black box bills. This device is currently in use. The black boxes record how fast you go, braking patterns etc. and at this point the data can be used against you. (HB 2414) (SB 1925) would make the owner of the vehicle, the owner of the data. (If you own, the information cannot be used against

PAGE 9 you without your permission.)

-The Highway Bill President Obama’s draft Transportation bill would allow the Secretary of Transportation to help STATES work on Mandatory Helmet Use Laws and it appears to be encouraged by the President.

The real facts show that motorcycle fatalities are declining.

58% of the fatalities come from mandatory helmet law states. NHTSA and the CDC use questionable methods in coming to conclusions regarding the effectiveness of helmet use.

Accurate conclusions call for accurate information. Too many people base their opinions on inaccurate “facts”. The motorcycle community cannot afford to Just Sit Back and Enjoy the Ride.

When we go to the Charity Rides and Toy Runs this month and next, consider giving you and a friend the gift of MRF & ABATE memberships. It’s going take an enormous amount drive and dedication along with a multitude of freedom fighters to keep our rights. (And get some back)

Enough said, Vote in November, get involved. Join the fight by becoming a member of ABATE, AMA, and the MRF.

Motorcycle Riders Foundation Awareness & Education (MRFA&E) was established to promote motorcycle awareness and education due to an everincreasing rider population. No one is more concerned with rider safety than riders themselves, and obviously those best suited to educate newer riders are veteran riders.

Promote awareness and education in the motorcycle community to improve rider’s safety. Please donate, we are a 501C3 Corporation. Your donation is tax deductible. To donate go to our web site listed at the bottom.

ELECTRIC MOTORCYCLES TO HELP REDUCE AIR POLLUTION IN IRAN Nearly half a million electric motorcycles will be manufactured to help reduce Iran’s Tehran Air Pollution.

The Iran Fuel Conservation Company (IFcC) has a plan to get 400,000 motorcycles that use gasoline off the road and to replace them with 400,000 electric motorcycles, saying, “Due to incomplete combustion, some motorcycles pollute the air four times as much as automobiles. A manufacturer will receive $300 for each electric motorbike it produces and sells.

Once the plan is implemented, only electric motorcycles will be allowed on the streets of central Tehran.

MASTERLINK NOVEMBER 2014 REO Speedwagon may have sung “I can’t fight this feeling” but it gets scary sometimes when you lose the feeling in your hands while riding. Has it happened to you? Don’t feel alone. A lot of riders get that tingling feeling in their hands after riding for a period of time. There are ways to avoid it or at least do your best to prevent it.

When my wife first got her new bike last December she started experiencing the numb hands syndrome. Her left hand would go numb after a short period of time riding. With this she would also lose some of the strength in her hand. That can be dangerous if you can’t pull in the clutch lever. Luckily we found the cause of it and fixed it for the most part. There are three main causes of numbness in your hands. Muscle fatigue, pinched nerve and vibration. I can’t tell you what to do about a pinched nerve except to see a professional about it. I keep my muscles relaxed the best I can so the pinched nerve doesn’t happen. I see a massage therapist on a regular basis. Mariya over at AZ Body Therapy

PAGE 11

Numb Hands

in Glendale understands the strain on the shoulders and upper back that riding a lot of miles can place on your body. So she does what she can based on her professional experience to alleviate the pressure that could cause a pinched nerve and even muscle fatigue. Muscle fatigue! We all get it. But how can you diminish the effects of it on your riding? Spend some time in the gym on a regular basis. Not that I do that by any means, just a tip. The other main cause is vibration through your grips. If this is happening to you then look for a set of grips that will help. I have a set of Roland Sands grips with Renthal rubber on them. I personally

like Renthal products because of a few reasons. They have been around a long time and their quality is top notch. They manufacture grips for the racing community and I appreciate their constant testing of new ways to make their products better.

ADJUST RIDING POSITION

Sport bike riders seem to get the numb hand syndrome more often than cruiser riders because of the position of the rider. When you place your weight on the bars you will start cutting off the circulation to your hands. Adjust your position on a regular basis to help alleviate this problem. If this is happening to you on a cruiser model, you may want to look into adjusting your bar

angle or get a new set of bars. Mini apes work best for me but I have riding friends that say the beach bar style is best for them. It is a personal thing. Talk to your local dealer, mechanic or custom bike builder about doing a little “customizing” to your ride. It may help. CHANGE RIDING STYLE

When you ride you should never have a “death grip” on your bars. I’ve seen too many riders with that “hang on for dear life” riding style and then they complain that they are not comfortable riding for long periods of time. OK. If you are one of those… STOP! Go back to riding school and learn how to ride with softer hands. T.E.A.M. Arizona has plenty of classes on courses that can help you with this. Check them out. It’s worth it.

Most of all make sure you stretch out a little before the long ride and relax. Riding is supposed to be fun. Numb hands will make it not fun.

See you in the wind. From the desk of Grumpy

A suggested way to increase motorcycle awareness in communities is for ABATE to sell yard signs for people to display that carry the message to look out for motorcycles. No MMA members from Arizona were on the attendance roster. Chapters have been asked to sponsors more events that would create interest and participation and encourage growth. East Valley has been hosting booths at Motorcycle on Main in Mesa, 1st Fridays of each month. This activity has increased our membership and brought current members to the booth to meet us. EV Hard Ass Run on yesterday broke a record with 74 riders attending; $1039 was the net profit. Three new members were signed up. The new State Membership Officer, Larry Keim, has received the 1st training with another training session scheduled for tomorrow night. Please allow 2-3 months for him to catch up with the back log. Debra Beda of HCC offered to assist with Membership transition. Bikers Inside the Beltway, the only national lobby day needs Arizona presence. Send a representative next year. Request that EVERT CHAPTER BUDGET $100/year for an MRF Sustaining Membership. Chapters are encouraged to have MRF membership applications available at all meetings. MDATD – Suggest that kids are invited to participate and start getting involved in the legislative process. They can get excused from school for participating in a “civic activity.” It has been suggested that patriotic bandanas worn by ABATE members to indicate those who can help attendees find their representatives and attend meetings with them. “Better legislation through citizen participation” is a great slogan for the event. Attracting younger riders: get event information from Kawasaki, Suzuki, BMW, HOG, and American Legion Riders and attend their events.

Annual Membership Meeting and Election Rally 11/01/14 – seeking nominations for outstanding service awards. All BOD members are asked to go back to their chapters and ask for donation items for the silent auction.

B.B. Treasurer: No Reports for this meeting; will be sent soon.

B.C. Lobbyist: Vic reported: Tentative date for MDATD is 02/23 or 24/2015. Will have solid date very soon. The state is considering having permanent plates for motorcycles. The impact on motorcycling is being researched.

IV. Old Business: A. Topic - Budgeting: Discussion: Mary K did a great job keeping State expenses down this year! Sean presented the New Budget Forms which will demonstrate the current balance as well as burn rate to determine amounts of money to be distributed among Savings, State Operation and TBFS planning. The forms were reviewed and suggested improvements were shared. The forms have space for last year Actual vs Estimated spending, and for Projected Income in addition to estimated Expenses. HC chapter requested return to old budget form as the new forms were too complicated and the form included no instruction on how to use it. Sean shared that the old forms did not allow for accurate tracking of expenses, so a change was needed. Education for State Officers regarding the new budget forms was a suggested topic for Officer Training in January. Action: Sean will send the forms to BOD members for review and suggested changes to be submitted back to him BEFORE November 1, 2014. Responsible: BOD members

B. Topic - Merchandise: Discussion: Mike Schneider is willing to stock and ship items, however there needs to be someone between him and ABATE finances to avoid a potential appearance of conflict of interest as a vendor. The lack of ABATE of AZ product available online is a lost opportunity for revenue. Items such as shirts, hats, decals, stickers, pins, patches, mugs, Koosies, key chains, license plate brackets and calendars with

events could be offered. Action: Ongoing research and development Responsible: MK and Mike.

C. TBFS date change: Discussion: TBFS will be held at MLL June 11-14, 2015. Other details have been discussed within the President’s report above. MK suggested that ABATE consider entering a multi-year contract with MLL for future TBFS events. Action: ongoing Responsible: TBFS Committee

V. New Business: A. Topic – Membership Forms: Discussion: Draft of updated forms was shared. Comments for improvements were shared. Action: Jean will distribute the draft to BOD and State Officers for edits to be returned by October 24, 2014 so form can be finalized and ready for distribution at the November 1st Annual Meeting. Responsible: Jean will be distributing the form as above.

B. Topic – ABATE’s Rider Advantage: Discussion: Jim Silk is the remaining officer for the dormant organization. Jim has developed a proposal for a scholarship program to operate through ARA for rider skill training. He is collaborating with TEAM AZ for rider skill training using the ARA scholarship. Any donations to the scholarship program are tax deductible. Action: Ongoing Responsible: Jim Silk

C. Topic – Annual Membership Meeting and Election Rally place and date change: Discussion: The change in date and place for the Meeting to be held must be voted upon by the BOD. The budget for the event was submitted by Jean, who is organizing the event, $750.00. It is hoped that enough people attend to cover the cost of renting the facility, $150 and travel for quest speaker ~$350. There may be an additional cost for food. The American Italian Club will plan food for at least 40 people at a cost to ABATE of $360. ABATE is expected to pay for any food that is not sold. The club is charging ABATE $9/plate for 40 plates of food. If more food is sold ABATE will not owe

the Club money for food. There will be bike games, kid games, silent auction, 50/50, BOD meeting, BOD election, guest speaker, and award presentations. All BOD members are asked to encourage ABATE members and general public to attend. There will be music provided from 2PM – 5PM by Jim St. James, guitarist-singer. Action: Motion was made by Clyde Brooks to move the place of the Annual Membership Meeting and Election Rally to the American Italian Club at 5709 N. 12th Street, Phoenix to be held on November 1, 2014 from 11 AM to 3 PM. Second by: Joe Ferrucci. Vote: all in favor. Responsible: Jean and Mike Schneider

VI. Open Discussion: New revenue and membership growth opportunities: Suggestions made for outreach to other biker organization organizations to discuss importance of MRO membership. All members should carry membership forms with them and hand them out at every opportunity. VII. Next Meeting: A. MASTERLINK NOVEMBER 2014 Never shout out or “boo” anyone, be respectful. If someone else has already expressed your opinion when you’re called on, say so and give someone else a turn to express their opinion. You only need speak for 60-90 seconds to get the point across. Don’t be nervous, they want constituent input.

I also attended “Leadership Development” by Dave Condon and Doc D’Errico from Massachusetts Motorcycle Assoc. Issues addressed were dealing with difficult people, best ways to manage and accomplish tasks, development of teamwork, leadership vs. management, and leadership challenges. We want our members to proudly share a sense of purpose and be invested in accomplishing our mission and goals. Be sure your members know what needs to be done next, by whom, and by when to achieve the team goals. Make sure authority and decision making lines are clearly understood. Conflict is dealt with openly and considered important to decision making and personal growth. Make sure members feel their unique personalities are appreciated and well utilized. Set group norms for working together and seen as standards for everyone in the group. Stay on topic, members will find team meet-

ings efficient and productive and look forward to this time together. Let members know clearly when the team has met with success and share in this equally and proudly.

Being that I have seen the MRF lobbyist, Jeff Hennie, wear an ABATE of AZ shirt at MOTM in the past, I brought him our new ABATE of AZ state shirt as a gift. He told me that he sparingly wears his ABATE of AZ shirt because he doesn’t want to wear it out. Well, now he has two and can wear them more often!!

The MRF always hosts a fund-raiser on Saturday night of this conference. Most everyone brings something to donate towards the silent auction or live auction. We donated various event shirts. This year, I was really happy to win the live auction for an MRF/SMRO shirt quilt made by Jay & Glenyce Jackson from Washington state. Our ABATE of AZ state shirt is included in the blanket, so I had to have it!!

I was proud to hand them $2,002 in donations from ABATE of AZ State and chapters. As much as we and other SMRO’s all across this nation donated, the MRF collected only enough revenue to keep

them going for approximately another 6 months. THEY NEED YOUR MEMBERSHIP and any donations you can afford. I’ve encouraged every one of our chapters to become MRF sustaining SMRO member for $100/year. If you can help, please go to www.mrf.org and become a member.

An idea that came out of this conference is to invite our children and/or grand-children to attend Motorcycle Day at the Dome. This is a “civic activity” and will allow for your child to be excused from school that day. Not only is it an education for our children, but also encourages their future participation in our mission, bringing in the next generation. It also helps our image to our legislators and makes us more approachable. Larry Keim, our new State Membership Officer, and his lovely assistant and wife Tami, have been working very diligently to catch up on membership processing and ensuring accurate data. Please give them a hardy “thank you” for taking on this big task.

We are updating our membership application, the new forms will be available at the November 1st annual membership

I had the pleasure of visiting our Yavapai Chapter meeting on October 12th. They are rebuilding their officer structure. Paul Pendergast has moved from Vice to Chapter Coordinator for the remainder of the year. Leslie Butitta joined and accepted the chapter secretary position. She and her mom, Deborah Butitta and Chino have stepped up to the plate and are calling chapter members to encourage participation at upcoming officer elections for 2015, and sending out membership renewals. Their meeting place has changed to the VFW in Prescott, see their chapter article in this edition. They are focused on bringing in the next generation and giving the old-timers a break. Best wishes to their continued success! Well folks, it’s time for me to pack up our camping stuff and head out to the ACMC’s Riot on the River this weekend, October 17-19th. I hope to see ABATE of AZ proudly represented. Until next month, be safe out there, ride like you’re invisible to the cagers.

Motorcyclists '23% Better' Behind the Wheel of a Car

Reprinted from http://www.visordown.com by Steve Farrell

MOTORCYCLISTS are 23% safer behind the wheel of a car than nonmotorcyclists, according to a leading insurer.

Equity Red Star compared car drivers to

car users who also have an insured motorcycle, and found the latter 23% less likely on average to make a claim on their car policy. The firm also adjusted the figures to take into account the different typical ages of car drivers and motorcyclists, and still found the riders to be 21% better behind the wheel. The results showed motorcy-

clists were 20% less likely to make a bodily injury claim on their car policy.

The insurer examined 200 million policies between 2007 and 2012.

Rob Clark, Equity Red Star’s Head of Retail Motor, said: “A motorcyclist could, behind the wheel of a car, be said to be 23% better.”

Motorcycle Awareness Program

United we ride ~ Divided we Drive!

Clark presented the data yesterday at a conference organised by the Motorcycle Industry Association to examine evidence that increasing the number of motorcyclists on the road could actually improve safety. The conference was held in the offices of the Department for Transport in London.

And they’re gone. That's right Congress has adjourned until after the elections. Barring an emergency session to declare war or otherwise all members will be back home campaigning hard. This is a make or break year for both parties so expect the muckraking to be on display. The Congress has not passed all of the must pass bills for the year so that will all happen in the lame duck session. They passed a continuing resolution or CR to fund the federal budget through December 11th. The Congress is sched-

uled to come back November 12th.

The Senate Commerce committee has oversight of NHTSAs budget and every year the committee brings in the NHTSA chief to go over the agencies policies and procedures. Generally speaking these types of hearings all go the same way. When the political party testifying is of the same political party as the ones asking the questions they are softball style setups for the administration (NHTSA) to tout all their accomplishments. Then when the administration is questioned by the other party the questions come like spears, designed to tear down the admin-

istration and point out all they done wrong. Not this time. It seems every one is fed up with NHTSA. They were lambasted time and time again from both parties for bungling the implementation of the last highway bill known as MAP21. The second portion of the hearing involved the Governors Highway Safety Assoc., the Alliance of Automobile Manufactures and the Advocates for Highway Safety and Auto Safety. No motorcycle specific issues came up, which is good for this group because with the exception of the auto alliance, hate motorcycle rights groups and usually go out of their way to make us look crazy.

MASTERLINK NOVEMBER 2014

Now that the Congress is in recess I won’t be sending out these weekly updates. Rather they will be periodic political reports on what's going on in key races around the country. If you have a local race thats important to you, let me know about it. This is the time of year when we spend a little PAC money to help our friends in congress or help our friends get into congress.

Biker Boots On The Ground Fighting ISIS

They put their motorcycle boots on the ground!

Outlaw Dutch bikers have joined forces with Kurdish fighters battling ISIS fanatics in Iraq — and authorities in the Netherlands say that’s just fine with them.

Klaas Otto, head of the No Surrender motorcycle club, told Dutch broadcasters that three members from the cities of Amsterdam, Rotterdam and Breda recently joined the fight outside Mosul in northern Iraq, Agence France-Presse said.

A photo on a Dutch-Kurdish Twitter account showed one of the men — a heavily tattooed Dutchman named Ron — clad in military garb, holding a Kalashnikov assault rifle and flashing the “victory” sign as he sits with a Kurdish comrade in a fortified bunker. No Surrender is one of the Netherlands’ biggest motorcycle clubs, with membership rivaling that of the Dutch Hells Angels’ chapter. And, unlike Dutch citizens who might side with ISIS in the fight, the bikers would face no punishment from the Dutch government — because they are not committing a crime.

“Joining a foreign armed force was previously punishable. Now it’s no longer forbidden,” said Wim de Bruin, a spokesman for the Dutch public prosecutor. “You just can’t join a fight against the Netherlands.”

News from the Net

European countries, including the Netherlands, have cracked down on citizens teaming up with the ISIS barbarians, who have captured wide swaths of Iraq and Syria, raping, beheading and otherwise spreading havoc in their path.

Authorities have confiscated the wouldbe jihadis’ passports before they traveled and threatened to prosecute them for war crimes if they returned.

“The big difference with [ISIS] is that it’s listed as a terrorist group,” de Bruin said. “That means that even preparing to join [ISIS] is punishable.” Supporters quickly took to Twitter to hail the new grizzled heroes.

“Dutch bikers strapping it with the Kurds has made my day,” posted one Twitter user called modn world from West London.

“Looking forward to the Deadliest Warriors special — Dutch Bikers vs The Islamic State,” added Brown Moses in a reference to the canceled Spike TV show. But a video on the club’s YouTube page raises questions about just how battleready No Surrender may be. The video shows mostly middle-aged, paunchy men, many of them shirtless, cavorting with topless dancers to the gang’s theme song, “No Surrender Is Here to Stay.” =====================

Indian Motorcycle Rolls Into Daytona

For Biketoberfest

Indian Motorcycle is also proud to celebrate the grand opening of its new Indian Motorcycle Daytona Beach dealership, one of the newest in the country, which will serve as the brands home base during the weekend’s festivities. Located at 290 North Beach Street, the dealership will host a variety of activities throughout Biketoberfest, including demo rides of the entire 2015 Indian Motorcycle line-up and an Indian Scout giveaway on Saturday night at 6p.m. Demo rides are available Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. at Indian Motorcycle Daytona Beach. To demo ride, a valid motorcycle endorsement and appropriate riding gear are required. “We have a lot to celebrate this weekend at Biketoberfest as we participate in the grand opening of our impressive new Indian Motorcycle dealership where we’ll host demo rides of our incredible new 2015 models,” said Steve Menneto, vice president of motorcycles for Polaris Industries. “This is one of the first opportunities for riders to experience the allnew Indian Scout, and I know they’ll be blown away by its potent performance, nimble and precise handling and its aggressive starting price. The weather looks perfect for this weekend, so we’re looking forward to hosting everyone at our amazing new Indian Motorcycle Daytona Beach dealership.” ============================ Million Dollar Icon To Go On The Auction Block

On Oct. 18, the Calabasas, Calif.-based auction house Profiles In History will auction off what it says is the last authentic motorcycle used in the filming of 1969′s Easy Rider, and what some consider the most famous motorcycle in the world. The bike currently for sale was partially destroyed in the film’s finale, the auction house says, and then rebuilt by actor Dan Haggerty. (The three other bikes used in the production were stolen prior to the film’s release.)

According to Brian Chanes, acquisitions manager for the auction house, the bike’s estimated value is between $1 million and $1.2 million.

But despite the bike's fame, the history of the creation of the bikes used in Easy Rider has for many years been largely unknown. And the man who designed and coordinated the building of the motorcycles, Clifford Vaughs, says he and the other bike builders have not received proper credit for their work The motorcycles used in Easy Rider were not simply rolled out of a showroom and in front of the camera. They were "choppers," crafted by hand.

Choppers are "a type of customized motorcycle usually defined by a stretched out wheel-base, and pulled back handlebars, and a sissy bar, and a wild paint job," says Paul d'Orleans, the author of the upcoming book, The Chopper: The Real Story. "It's a quintessentially American folk art form."

MASTERLINK NOVEMBER 2014

Hello again, I was hoping this month to tell you all about the meeting of the minds that was held in Kansas City. As you all may have heard three of the four Arizona lobbyist for the motorcycle community were in a truck heading north of Pinetop when a nearly 800 pound elk jumped in front of us. This ended our trip rather abruptly so we could not get to Kansas City and had to come home. So instead I want to clear up some misconceptions that exist about why I ended up in the hospital. I've told this story a number of times and I decided it might be time to just put it on paper and let people read it.

Back in February I was a part-time manager of a small trailer park in Sunny Slope. The owner decided to go out of town for a week and so I had to stay there to deal with tenant issues and whatever else came up. He had one tenant who I knew was a methamphetamine addict. But he used to hire the guy and his wife to clean out empty units and they did this surprisingly cheap. The only problem is that they would steal whatever wasn't nailed down. So when he went out of town the guy started going around and selling the little sheds that were all around the property. I caught one group of guys trying to load one of the sheds on to a truck and stopped them. They insisted that they had bought it from the manager of the park and I said that was impossible because I'm the manager of the park. Then they threatened to kill me. So I grabbed my gun and made them put the shed back.

Then the next afternoon after repeated calls from the owner demanding that I go knock on the tenant's door I did just that.

Johnny D is Back

The guy came out with a baseball bat raised as if he was going to swing for the cheap seats. So I pulled out my gun and pointed it in the air and told him that I had a gun and that his baseball bat wasn't going to work so he should just put it away. He cussed and screamed at me for a while then ran back into his house and called 911. When the police came of course he lied and told them he didn't have a bat and that I had pointed the gun at his face. Now this is the tricky part, I know that my picture has been on a police training video that every cop in Arizona has seen. I believe that it was either that or the fact that it was my word against a white man's. Whatever the case they take me to jail charge me with a class III felony aggravated assault using a firearm and I got to spend five days in county jail in maximum-security. During my stay I notified the medical staff that I desperately needed blood pressure medication and told them what kind and the dosages and of course they laughed.

Within five days my blood pressure gotten so high that the doctor at the jail ordered that I be taken to the hospital. And this is where it gets tricky, when I was in the ICU two officers from the Sheriff's Department came in and told me that my bail had been posted and that I was free to go all I had to do was sign some paperwork so I did. Meanwhile the doctor and nurse had connected an IV in my arm. I was fully expecting to spend a few days in the hospital while they brought my blood pressure under control but they injected something into the IV that put me to sleep.

That was February 28, I woke up about April 20 and found that I was in the third

hospital that I had been in since this all began. I couldn't move because my body was too weak, I could barely raise my arms and I found in my hands hung limp on the end of my wrists and were basically useless. I also found out a few days later that I could no longer raise my left foot. They had inserted a metal tube into my throat to make me breathe.

Apparently at some point they had started me on a drug called propofol for whatever reason and then soon added a great deal of other medications. One of the side effects was that I started going into respiratory failure so they had to insert a breathing tube into my lung which soon got infected so they had to change over to a tracheostomy.

The last hospital I was in was actually a care facility and a rehab hospital. I also found out that MCSO failed to notify Maricopa County Hospital that I was no longer in custody so they left me in the inmate ward under guard of sheriffs. Several of my friends swear that at different times they had seen me handcuffed to the bed. My daughter was there and the doctors had her convinced that everything they were doing was proper and necessary even though it was very nearly killing me. In August my attorney filed a notice of claim against MCSO for $775,000 and in September against Maricopa Integrated Health Systems for $1,350,000. Many people ask why so low and the reason is simple it wasn't until September 16 that the county attorney's office decided to dismiss the charge against me because as I was finally able to participate in my own defense and name the witnesses who

PAGE 15

had been there so that my other attorney could interview them that the evidence finally came forward of what really happened that day.

Which leads us back to why I was in the truck with Billy and Vic. I only had about eight days to coordinate my travel plans to Kansas City as the court would not allow me to go out of state while I was pending trial on a class III felony. I could not book a flight at a reasonable price so I started calling around to see who was doing what and Billy was driving so I asked if I could come along and help share the gas. I feel bad for that poor elk he was a magnificent creature. He really did not want to die, a lot like me. So now you know the story it was not a bike wreck, it was not heart problems, and it definitely was not a jealous husband. In the meantime we have an election coming up on November 4 please remember to vote. The United States is a representative republic, our representatives are democratically elected by the people, and the fewer people who vote the crappier are our representatives will be. Did ya know its all ya can eat and two free drinks for breakfast there, and dang good!

By Jim Silk State Safety Officer Greetings from the East Valley Chapter!

One of the best rides ever is the annual East Valley Chapter HARD ASS RUN. It’s the most secretive poker run, as well as the longest, ever done by an ABATE of AZ chapter. It goes way back to the good ol’ days in 2002 when Billie Daman originated it, and then Jack Batty and Redbone took it over with some real winner rides. The biker gloves have come off and the challenge has been on ever since, as I took over coordinating it for the first time this year. We started out at the What the Hell Bar & Grill in east Mesa on October 4th, a

Off to the next card stop manned by Richard Dalton and Cheryl Vasquez at Jake's Corner. They got a dollar biker breakfast there. Then the ride took a cool twist as we headed up to Globe to the Drift Inn Saloon to meet up with volunteers Nolan & Dawn Steed for a card draw and a green chili smothered burger for a lunch stop. The run then went through Winkleman, and over to Florence to the River Bottom Bar with a card stop from Mike Shearheart and his lovely wife Willy and her cool truck! Following the pack, was the sweep truck manned by Shorty Owens and his grinning 7 year old grandson, Syris to keep him company. Syris’ dad, Michael rode his 1985 250 c.c. Honda Rebel, his first motorcycle, that he just got up and running, all the way without problems. Way to go Michael! We ended up at American Legion Post 138 in Tempe with a record turnout of 75

riders! Winning the top hand for $250 with three Kings was Howard Rudd, he smiled all day after that. Second place was won by the sexy smiler herself JoAnne King with three 10's for $100, and worst hand ever went to Kelly for $50.

The Hard Ass Run quilt was won by Mac McMakin, who had donated all the shirts for it. Larry and Tammy Keim really wanted to win that blanket raffle, so much that they stocked the pot by buying lots of tickets. When the winners Mary Ellen & Mac McMakin overheard their disappointment in loosing the raffle, they gifted the quilt to Tammy & Larry!!! A total class act by those two! That’s what bikers do!!!

Now complaining and a whining from the day before, “didn't get a good card”, “it was hot out”, “too many miles”, “where’s my gator aid?” was James R Hammond. We made him buy a arm full of 50/50 tickets and next thing ya know, he wins the 50/50!! Son of a beaich, all smiles, we took his new membership money from him and he joined! What a story to tell about Jim Hammond over many beers later. Tho’ their belt broke on the ride, Steven and Trish Lindroth signed up as new members and got a ride home safe and sound. Welcome Steven and Trish!

A huge THANKS goes out to the riders who helped lay out the route; Jeff Albers, Courtney Coder and Bridgett Loli. Jennifer Hutt was texting us to “go fast” from Portland, missed ya baby!. They spent the day enjoying fellow biker camaraderie and keeping the stops secret, just like Jack and Redbone woulda wanted. Huge kisses and biker hugs go out to Shannon Levy of 93.3 KDKB who had us on “Ruby’s Rides”, a great website to see where are the good rides are and kick ass rock and roll tunes!! The T-shirt design came from Mike Turngren and rocked, and Michael Schneider crew at Square Peg Promotions kicked ass on the style and color. Those shirts were provided courtesy of Matt Brown’s generosity, from Brown & Little P.L.C., super attorneys of law. Thanks again Matt, your biker wisdom rode with us! “Next year, let’s do this ride again” everyone told me, but with a twist heh heh heh. It ain't yer grandpa's poker run gang! Ride safe ~ see ya, Jim Silk ABATE of AZ State & East Valley Chapter Safety officer

MASTERLINK NOVEMBER 2014 By Dawn Steed

“Conference Virgin” is what I was lovingly called and introduced as during my weekend at Meeting of The Minds. It was very fitting since it was in fact my first exposure to this magnitude of conference. I was surrounded by the most incredible and knowledgeable like-minded people, the most important being Jim Silk, Mary K and Jean Cooper. The conference took on an even deeper meaning to me, since I had just completed my Basic Rider Course through Team Arizona, earning my first ever motorcycle endorsement becoming a lady rider.

As we arrived at the Embassy Suites in Kansas City, MO, the energy and excitement in the air wrapped around me giving a feeling of an unspoken and unconditional bond between not strangers but new to be made friends. The first person I saw was a gentleman dressed in a kilt. Which I believe is an absolutely awesome sight. I heard and read many wonderful sayings while I was there but there were a couple that really stuck out were “United

Without the new generation’s involvement, everything that has been fought for from the beginning will slowly disappear. We need to be proud of being a biker and be seen in public getting involved, supporting each other’s groups and events, by being widely recognized in the community gives us opportunities to spread the word about Motorcycle rights and awareness. I am feeling fired up and am so looking forward to becoming more involved.
