It’s not called the “House of the Blue Lake” for nothing – hypnotic blues of Lake Tahoe are visible from every space. A warm, comfortable, and understated luxury awaits the new homeowner who will probably spend more time in the outdoor entertaining areas, admiring Mother Nature, than the billiard/bar area or cozy, fireplace gathering spots. Ceiling wood beams and knotty-pine accents give it a rustic vibe, but the layout and design has an adobe/southwestern look and feel. A guest house with separate entrance and garage completes the appeal of this home.

Create Memories with Donsuemor Madeleines May 6, 2011 As is often the case with history, the origination of the small french shell shaped cake the madeleine (pronounced‐* mad‐a ‐ lin *) brings with it conflicting stories. Some believe that the madeleine was named for a 19th century pastry cook, Madeleine Paulmeir. Other sources claim that Madeleine Paulmeir was a cook in the 18th century for Stansislaw Leszczynski, whose son in law, Louis XV of France named them for her. Nevertheless the madeleine was immortalized by Marcel Proust in his autobiographical book A larecherche du temps perdu(Remembrance of things past). Proust, M. (1913‐27). Remembrance of Things Past. Volume 1: Swann's Way: Within a Budding Grove. The definitive French Pleiade edition translated by C.K. Scott Moncrieff and Terence Kilmartin. New York: Vintage. pp. 48‐51. "And as soon as I had recognized the taste of the piece of madeleine soaked in her decoction of lime‐blossom which my aunt used to give me (although I did not yet know and must long postpone the discovery of why this memory made me so happy) immediately the old grey house upon the street, where her room was, rose up like a stage set to attach itself to the little pavilion opening on to the garden which had been built out behind it for my parents (the isolated segment which until that moment had been all that I could see); and with the house the town, from morning to night and in all weathers, the Square where I used to be sent before lunch, the streets along which I used to run errands, the country roads we took when it was fine." Don and Susie Morris founded their company Donsuemor in 1976 in Berkeley California. Susie began baking madeleines, and Don quickly recognized that there was a very successful business in their future. Both Don and Susie were dedicated and determined to make the best possible madeleines, and make them they did! Fast forward to thirty five years later, and Donsuemor is regarded as one of the very best in the business! Don passed away in 1997, but Susie continues to be inspired by Don's visions of excellence, and remains committed to the dream they shared together. The madeleines at Donsuemor are exactly what they should be! Ever so slightly crisp on the outside, and perfect sponge‐like cake in the middle. I am generally a "purist" when it come to food. Most of the time I am partial to the original basic, however Donsuemor does a fabulous variety that I am also extremely fond of as well! The" Chocolate" is made with a special blend of cocoa powders and chocolate, and the taste is smooth, elegant, and decadent. The "Lemon Zest" is baked with real lemon zest, and it's unique and refreshing taste makes it a favorite of mine. The "Dipped" is dipped in chocolate halfway down, and is almost sinfully delicious! Finally the "Dipped Chocolate" would be a chocolate lovers' dream come true! The chocolate cake is dipped in a chocolate coating, and the taste is one that will easily take your breath away! Finally each madeleine is individually wrapped to ensure freshness, and the elegant packaging will alert the lucky recipient that there is something very special just for them inside the beautiful box, and with that perhaps a memory of beautiful days gone by will visit for a few moments someday! Lake Tahoe Home for $7.75 Million: A Sign Luxury RE Market is Doing Well? By: James Rothaar, Senior Staff Writer | Posted: Apr. 22nd, 2011

Here is a look at a premium property located along the north shore of Lake Tahoe in Crystal Bay, NV. Is there a greater representation of the splendor of nature than along the north shore of Lake Tahoe? Obviously, there are many Mother Naturecreated destinations around the world. However, if a list were compiled, Nevada's Incline Village and Crystal Bay would have to be included. This is as good as it gets for an allencompassing nature retreat. Crystal Bay is a luxury-lifestyle community for all seasons with both winter- and summer-
outdoor activities aplenty. It also is a place where high-end real estate is once again selling well, according to Lexi Cerretti of Interno Real Estate Services. This is good news indeed for an area where real estate is its largest industry. Ms. Cerretti has closed on more than $7 million in sales during the past six months in the Incline Village and Crystal Bay. Additionally, she has remodeled houses in the area with her husband that were featured on the TV show My House Is Worth What? on the HGTV network. Ms. Cerretti believes that the luxury real estate market in the area is stabilizing and on the rise. A review of transactions in the area supports her assessment. From 2010 through first quarter 2011, nine lake front properties were sold priced between $1.9 million and $11.8 million. Five of those nine properties sold for more than $7.5 million. Conversely, there was a total of eight lakefront residences sold in 2008 and 2009. The highest price paid in that time frame for a single-family residence was $7.35 million. So, with nine sales recorded over the past 15 months, there were more transactions at higher prices than there were over the previous two-year period. The asking price on this Crystal Bay estate is $7.75 million. It was originally listed in 2004, at the peak of the real estate market, for $8.6 million. The property was relisted in March 2010 at $7.95 million and then reduced again in September 2010 to $7.75 million. If this price holds, it would sell at a reduction that would be less than a 10 percent drop from its 2004 high mark. What do you get in the high Sierras for $7.75 million? This grand lakefront manor is located in a cul-desac that sets on approximately an acre of land on the leeward shore of Crystal Bay Point. It has about 185 feet of lake frontage with a private beach and a steel pier with several boat hoists. There is a lakefront view from all six bedrooms and the common room. A gazebo and a waterfall complete the beautiful landscaped gardens sumptuously. There also is an indoor sauna, an outdoor spa, a three-car garage with an elevator and separate quarters for caretakers. Ms. Cerretti is the listing agent of this luxury property. She also said that no house sold over the past 15 months is as secluded or has the view and the outdoor amenities as this Crystal Bay lakefront estate. Giving Amputees the World Over a Helping Hand Mar 16, 2011 – 10:49 AM
When industrial designer Ernie Meadows lost his 18‐year‐old daughter in a car crash, he wanted to do something to help the world in her memory. He had heard about children in current and former conflict zones who had lost their hands to land mines, so he decided to build a simple prosthetic that would be cheap enough to distribute all over the world, free of cost. He named the hand the LN‐4, after his daughter, Ellen. The LN‐4 is designed for below‐elbow amputees. It's built for ease, cost and distribution: It attaches with Velcro, requires no surgery, costs only $50 to make and requires far less maintenance than the most common American prosthetic, the hook. It's not quite as pirate‐y as a hook, either. "The LN‐4 is not really considered a cosmetic device, but it clearly looks better than a hook," Give a Hand Foundation chairman Michael Mendonca told AOL News. Users can use a free hand or a nearby solid object to manipulate the prosthetic, and previous recipients often become teachers for newer ones. In the past few years, Give a Hand has joined with Odyssey Teams, a company that runs corporate training programs with a socially responsible bent. For years, Odyssey has been running programs where corporate clients would build bikes for children, but when COO and co‐owner Lain Hensley heard about the LN‐4, he knew that he would be able to do something with an even broader impact. The hands are finely tuned products, but they're not so complicated that an untrained person can't assemble them.
When they're done, the hands are given an extensive quality check and then distributed free of cost by the Give a Hand Foundation to prescreened applicants. According to Hensley, they try to use the hands as a way of reminding their clients of the impact that their work, from making batteries to selling pharmaceuticals, can have on people outside their own companies. "All businesses need to be thinking that someone outside of the board room needs to benefit from our experiences," he told AOL News. "When we get grounded in the real impact of our work, it puts pressure on us to do our very best in everything that we do." Meadows, a Rotary Club member, originally donated the plans for the LN‐4 to his fellow Rotarians under the condition that no recipient would ever be charged. According to Hensley, one of the biggest challenges they face in distribution can sometimes be just the simple act of convincing people that they're going to get a prosthetic hand for free. Once they figure out that the program is for real, though, they're ecstatic. One of the first things many recipients do is grab a pen and start writing for hours ‐‐ something some of them may not have been able to do for years.
Courtney Cachet: Love-It or Love-It-Not Valentines Day Gift Guide (SLIDESHOW) _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ http://www.huffingtonpost.com/courtney-cachet/love-it-or-love-it-not-va_b_818537.html#s235198&title=Chocolate_Dipped_Madeleines
March 3, 2011
After what seems like a never ending barrage of horrific weather throughout the month of January, it's time to heat things up a little for Valentine's Day. Now I know, Valentine's Day is just a little tacky. But, if you're a guy and you ignore it the winter will be longer and assuredly, colder. For a woman, if you ignore it you're a cold bitch with no man and pissed off you have no Prince Charming to shower you with diamonds, bonbons and amour. I also loathe the thought of going to a restaurant and having that creepy guy in a cheap tux come around asking my husband if he wants to buy me a rose. Shoot me if I am dining in one of those establishments anyway, por favor..but, you get my point, right? But, here's the thing. Love, whether you like it or not, is what makes the world go round. Love is something we all need. Without love, your life would basically suck. So, sappy as it sounds you need to celebrate that love. I just don't think a box of chocolates from Walgreen's is the best way. I came up with a list with items from twenty bucks to a max of $200 to give you some options. Whether you like my gift picks or not, I got nothing but love for ya. XO Courtney
