JOURNEY THROUGH HISTORY & SPACES...
Revealing the Hidden Gem A Journy from Smooth to Rough A Statement of Lace
01
The project is aimed to reveal the process of lace making and to highlight the glorious history of the Nottingham Lace Market. By interventioning landscape with poking, stretching and clipping, which are inspired by lace producing, spaces of distinct qualities are created and linked by a journey with intriguing experiences.
This gradually transitions from smooth to rough, which is translated in a variety ways such as activities, vegetation and materiality, yet contrasts are still left for some drama. Moreover, statements of lace are provided throughout the site, sometimes remarkable, but sometimes just a hidden hint. They offer not only visual pleasures, but functions.

Intimate communal area
Located at the end of the journey, this area reveals the real wilderness, where people in all ages are encouraged to interact with the landscape freely; the dynamic vegetation scheme and various rough materiality also help enliven the atmosphere. The detailed section is characterised by four main distinct parts, which host diverse activities.
1
The highest spot with far, open
view both towards the Lace Market and the site, surrounded by conifers and provides ownership. The tall conifers Pinus sylvestris serve as an all-year focal point. The smooth concrete surface has a dramatic contrast with the roughness of the rest of the slope.
2
A secured, comfortable haven
punched into a steep, gabion bounded slope for visitors to stay and spend longer time and relax. Protected by the conifers and the deciduous woodland formed by field maples whose slender form still allow sunlight to sprinkle.
3
A gentle slope formed by
layers of rocks, with small-scaled indentations that encourage children to play, adventure, hide and climb. A field maple is to be bent in a winding form that intrigues more fun. A selection of woodland perennials at the edge serves as a dynamic backdrop, too.
4
Surrounded by tall grasses
and defined by a small mount, the bowls, in a series, can be appreciated as a visual pleasure and provide a welcoming atmosphere. Being mowed in late spring, it also offers an opportunity for a group of people to freely used for picnic, chatting...

Process of Making Concrete mix: 2 cement/ 2 sand/ 1 fine aggregate. To create a smoother mix with lower viscosity, which easily fill the spaces between the stones. Natural stones: size varies, ranged from medium to large. Arrangement can vary, too. For a more stable assembly, at least 1/3 of the stone should be embedded in the concrete. Colour become darker in wet condition, as shown in #1 and #2.

JOURNEY OF LIVES IN A COMMUNITY...
A Verdant, Intimate Neighborhood Inspired by Span Housing... An intimate community lifestyle in a lush, functional landsape
02
To create a strong sense of intimacy in a securely bounded place, protected from excessive surveillance and the complex context. To maximise a natural, richly vegetated landscape flourishing in the intimate community, which will form functional, visually intriguing spaces and sustain multiple user experience.
At the same time, to still provide gentle exposure and a trace of connection to the existing characters (Proximate Proter Brook, Visible General Cemetery and Sunnybank Nature Reserve), which will strengthen ownership.

Housing Layout Strategy 1. Natural arrangement of compact groups enclose central space, forming gaps for glimpse and water runoff. 2. Active frontage: communal event venue and flats for commuters such as students and workers. 3. Affordable flats for families. Side rooms with larger balconies are especially suitable for retirees.
Movement Strategy 4. Affordable compact terrace with larger back gardens and generous sunlight. Suirable for couples. 5. More expensive large houses with own storage hut and long gardens. Suirable for big families. 6. More expensive terrace with river view for couples.
Meeting: 1. Location of recycle bins (at thresholds) naturally increases opportunity of encounter. 2. Adjacent door entrance increases neighbors' interaction. Gathering: 1. Small paths all lead to central communal space. Increase intimacy.

Detailed planting plan
Planting Design Journal A 1-year project carried out independently in 3 countries and 6 different sites. It comprehensively records observations and analyses of real-world plantings in a way that can benefit my future landscape designs. The journal is also aimed to extend knowledge of various plant species, including their identification, their basic information and how they work together aesthetically and functionally.
Landscape and Visual Impact Assessment
By using different landscape planning tools, this report is aimed to conduct an appropriate assessment of landscape and visual impacts arising from a real development proposal proposed by an energy company. It is also aimed to conclude with an Environmentla Satement that can be presented to local authorities and the company.
