Ownership

Shows the institutional holders of the Ralph Lauren stock. E.g. Vanguard Group runs index funds and is one of the largest players and represent one of the majority shareholders for RL stock. They report on the number of shares they hold/own on a quarterly basis.


Represents the day trading of RL stock. It is publically traded on the New York Stock Exchange. Shows the price of the stock at $113.07 / share at 11:34 a.m. yesterday which is up by a $1.30 or 1.16%. Volume represents the number of shares traded during that particular day.

These charts are part of RL’s income statement metrics. The bar chart on the left measures growth and revenue of the company. Specifically, sales per fiscal year. Shows that there is a downward trend from 2014 and the RL is suffering in the retail apocalypse. The chart on the right is also an income statement metric. However, it looks at quarterly comparisons to prior quarters form the previous years. Therefore, it looks at revenue and operating margin and compares it to what it was the same quarter of the previous year. Given that they are in negative comps, RL is suffering and not doing financially well. Big spikes in volume represent how news broke out and affected the company. Other factors to consider given this is a seasonal business is how one quarter from one year can do better or worse than the current quarter of this year due to changes in weather (colder than normal or hotter than normal – negatively affecting sales of seasonal items).


Stores Ended 2016 with 144 Ralph Lauren stores and 272 Polo Factory stores. Ralph Lauren operates flagship stores in New York City on Madison Avenue, Chicago, Manhasset, Greenwich, London, Milan, Tokyo, Moscow, and Paris.


Purple label is sold online on Ralph Lauren’s official website, Net-APorter, Barney’s, Mr Porter, Neiman Marcus, UK Selfridges, and Saks Fifth Avenue. It is sold at Ralph Lauren flagship stores, as well as select brick-and-mortar Barney’s, Neiman Marcus, UK Selfridges and Saks Fifth Avenue stores.

Ralph Lauren’s Fifth Ave Flagship features connected fitting rooms, sponsored by Adobe that show an interest in technological advancements to improve the shopping experience of customers. These fitting rooms also provide insight to buyers.

The fitting rooms have had a 90% engagement rate, much higher than expected.


Installed by Oak Labs, the fitting room lets sales associates know what you have in your fitting room. This allows sales associates to up sell to complete a look, or bring alternatives. This provides a more pleasant shopping experience. The room allows buyers to see directly what items were ‘converted’ aka bought and what ones didn’t do as well. This is a good resource as it can provide insight to buyers and designers as to what the customers like and what they do not.

Fashion retailers are trying to determine the most effective way to incorporate AI into the world of fashion. “In the past, it was the retailer who determined what a customer should want to buy and how they should shop. Today, it’s the customer who is defining the shopping experience.” – Walter Loeb, president, Loeb Associates Inc.


Men are anti social shoppers, this is important for Ralph Lauren to understand when it comes to Purple Label. Men are starting to do more of their own shopping, whether it be in the grocery store or the mall. Two reasons men are shopping more are the gender role reversal & americans putting off marriage, forcing men to shop for themselves.

Men can be picky and awkward about shopping for clothing. To encourage shopping in your store it is important to streamline the experience by folding things in a simple manner and organizing the store in an efficient yet engaging manner. It also helps to provide outfit examples on mannequins and posters. These small changes have proven to improve sales, 85% increase in product touch, 44% increase in unit sales, 38% increase in sales dollars.

Therefore, he had knowledge in the apparel industry. The company flourished during World War II, where Hugo was elected to design uniforms for Hitler.

Brooks Brothers is using a new technology called RealSense, for their Made to Measure program. This technology will allow Brooks Brothers to efficiently measure customers, in a non invasive way. They are working on ways to do this online as well, by allowing customers to download an app and scan their body at home. This streamlines online and in store shopping experience, which is especially important for men. This is similar to Ralph Lauren’s fitting rooms, but even more perfect for tailored men’s wear. Fit is extremely important, but to achieve a perfect fit without the awkward measuring part is going to be very appealing to shy male customers.


“The technology uses body scanning technology via either HP tablet or techequipped changing rooms to do rapid 3-D scans for fittings. After being provided with height, weight, gender and two quick photos, the system will almost instantly display full body measurements in addition to product recommendations.�
