RETAIL + RESTAURANT DESIGN | SPRING 2013
This combination retail and cafe space merges the experience of a traditional outdoor store with a more specialized higher-end retail and restaurant experience. Vitality's overall design focuses the elements of wrapping and enclosure. Specializing in the sale of canoes and kayaks, the building's design is based on traditional skin-and-frame canoe construction, evident from the large wooden beams and the ovular shape of the mezzanine level, which mimics a kayak cockpit.

THE COCKPIT
KOFFIETAFEL Based on the simple elegance of Scandinavian furniture design, this coffee table is engineered to deconstruct and fit into a standard UPS Suitcase box (22" x 14" x 19" external). As the project required all hardware to be completely necessary for the function of the design, the project is primarily dry-fit construction, except for glued joints on the shadowbox and screws to connect the legs to the shadowbox. The tabletop inset design was created with a CNC (Computer Numerical Control) router. AUSTIN, TEXAS | "KEEP AUSTIN WEIRD"
Designed exclusively using products from the Steelcase Inc. portfolio, this office environment for the future incorporates principles of an Interconnected Workplace. The designer incorporated break-out spaces, group work zones, and private enclave spaces that can easily adapt to the three to six month turnover period for the consultants and entrepreneurs comprising this Think Tank organization. The raw-feel space allows for generative work sessions and rapid prototyping to allow entrepreneurs to discover what is next in innovation and allows for future growth.

MORIKAMI CAMPUS | DELRAY BEACH, FL WELLNESS CENTER DESIGN | FALL 2014
The Komorebi Wellness Center and the Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens celebrate Japanese history and culture, which is evident from the Japanese Zen principles found in their aesthetics. Komorebi functions not only as a fitness center, but as a spa, therapy center, and community center. Because light has a direct effect on human health and wellness, the Center borrows both its name and ideologies from the Japanese term 'komorebi,' which translates as "sunlight filtering through the leaves of trees." In a similar way, the building's six bays are pushed and pulled, allowing it to "filter," or integrate, into its site.

LEARNING KITCHEN CITY MARKET | KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI MASTER THESIS | FALL 2014 - SPRING 2015
People are often unaware of the genuine nature of various aspects of the products they purchase. Providing greater access to healthy, natural, fresh foods will result in an overall healthier population. Creating a farm-to-table, field-to-fork type of experience integrated with the City Market in Kansas City, Missouri's, historic River Market will result in a fully immersive, holistic food experience that will enrich culture and draw people to the area by celebrating and engaging the region's agrarian influences. Allowing patrons to become involved in the preparation process enriches people's connections with the foods they consume.

the School Group
Weekend trips to historic City Market are the highlight of the weekend. The Family enjoys the sights, sounds, smells, and especially tastes of City Market.
The friend group ranges in age from teens to the elderly. They enjoy sampling all the Market has to offer, from fresh produce and smoked meats to soaps and flowers.
The couple is able to reconnect while patronizing the many retail spaces, restaurants, and foodrelated shops the Market has to offer.
The school group visits the Market to learn about the agricultural aspects of the Kansas City region. Farmers teach the group how food is grown, how to properly prepare food, and when the optimal growing and harvest times occur.
