Abby Marie Chryst Hoffman
Focusing on design for social change and sustainability of culture and materiality, my designs strive to connect cultures and invoke personal reactions to the history and meaning of place as well as investigating social & collective memories and the ideation of a regenerative design. These philosophies aspire to connect social divides as well as time differentials. They investigate the "Then" and the "Now" of social interactions, the tangibility of place and personal artifacts and the coalescence of space, place, and memory through time. My designs also focus on layering, ethnography, social empowerment, cooperatives, and communication for learning. Projects range from architectural interventions dealing with urban void, displacement, and ideas of a regenerative architecture and regenerative design—focusing on the new growing from within the layering that accrues over time; to ethnographic studies of culture, forest succession, new material/media, and time based and interactive media.
