3D Analysis

Petroglyphs, inscriptions and archaeological remains in the site testify to 12,000 years of human occupation and interaction with the natural environment. The combination of 25,000 rock carvings with 20,000 inscriptions trace the evolution of human thought and the early development of the alphabet. The site illustrates the evolution of pastoral, agricultural and urban activity in the region. 08

Concept and Theory External Effect

Internal Effect

The impact of the SITE on the USERS to get inspired.

The impact of the FUNCTIONS on the SITE to get inspired.

Since everybody is studying how not to effect on the site although it should be taken for granted since we’re already in the protected area of WADI RUM, so the approach that we’ll be taking is to study the impacts of the site to awards the users. In a way that expoilate the site to users’ benefit. The benefit that we’re aiming to achieve to awards our main users (students) is to give them inspiration in order to either come up with an idea for their graduation project or even to develop the basic idea that they already have in mind. On the other hand our sub users such as the tourists they can benefit from our project experience by enjoying and learning about movies and media as well as the special identity of this one of a kind on earth site.

Subtraction follows function.

Why adjusting masses with mountain? In order to solve the echo phenomenon in the rectangular shapes, sound scientists advice to use irregular shapes, that helps in spreading the sounds randomly.

Circulation Ideas

Inside vs Outside

Infinate Subtractions, less limitations.

Having unlimited and almost infinte possibilites to subtract livable voids within the same solid mass would provide the flexibility to create a wide range of voulumes in order to acommodate program’s functions. However, such a complete freedom of subtracting spaces underground continues until reaching the external envelope of the substance of subtraction or excavation.

Inspiration: Ants colony nest. 09

Massing Explanation Keeping the identity of Rum. A unique conrast between sand (soft) and mountains (Hard) which can not be found anywhere else in the world. By adjusting he masses vertically with the mountain we preserve the identity.

Going vertical maximizes the view. There is not much sites to explore from this poit of view because that the surrounding area has hights that is near to 100M minimum. Horizontal distribution of the masses on the site minimizes the view to the visitor of the project.

Human psychology and it’s relation to vertical movements. The viewer angle is narrow so no feelings will appear on the user once he reaches the site where the project is. When applying the vertical aligment of the masses against the mountain it makes a feeling of greatness in the human accourding to human psychology. goals of the project.

Concept and Massing

The composition is simple in both; shape and structure. It’s mainly structured of horizontal slaps and verical walls arranged due to hightech architecture school. As a dwelling in a forest, at the midle of dense trees, it was very important to have sipmle spaces with very clear lines to get much relaxing. Internally, high ceilings, large areas of north-east glass looking out, and high level louvers for ventilation allow this small dwelling footprint to be light-filled and to have a generous sense of space.

A Modern residential building, with creative design and constructing methods. It consists of 10 apartments, served by elevators as well as emergency staircases. Starting the design process, my main focus was on the elevations so i can adjust the amount daylight that is entering each apartment through out the day. Materials: Stone, Concrete, Wood, Steel and glass. Area: 180sqm/apartment. 26

Master Plan The maximum hight of the buildig is around 20.5 M. For the purpose of increasing the amount of light entering the building, I chose the longitudinal windows, They made of pure glass type, and at below, the wooden panels arrays vertically. The length is always constant, but there are two different widths: 80 cm and 160 cm, in order to achieve a one-to-two ratio. Moveble Windows The wooden windows in the front of balconies can be moved or rotated as you like, so they are very usefel in sun shading as well as blocking vision after sunset.

Amman Maternity Hospital Amman, Abdoun

31

A hospital specialized in maternity, infertility, enrichment and subsequent cases of pre-treatment and post-treatment. With the follow-up section of prenatal and postnatal. The idea of the hospital is to provide medical services to women during pregnancy, postpartum and neonatal care, to assist mothers in dealing with newborns and to provide necessary services after birth. During the design process, the main concern was keeping a clear interaction between the interior and exterior of the building, to ensure a suitable amount of natural light to go inside. 32

Morphology Due to the dimensions of land, the rectangular shape was the most suitable shape to start with.

[1+2]: By using golden ratio rule, entrance and parking spaces mass has been subtracted.

King Abdullah II Park & Business Centre Shmaisani, Amman.

83

A proposal for the rehabilitation of the King Abdullah II Park. Masterplan Philosophy: vWhen looking at the overall zoning and functions of the site, we saw the site as two main zones: the higher, quieter, sacred, relaxing, green parkland adjacent to a residential neighbourhood which we called the acropolis, and the lower, lively, energetic, bustling, built-up area adjacent to the main road which we called the forum. This philosophy is derived from Roman city planning in which the acropolis, or the upper city, is the sacred sanctuary, whereas the forum, the lower flatter edge, is the centre of day-to-day life with a marketplace and public buildings. 84

Part I| King Abdullah II Park. King Abdullah I Park was originally designed and built in the 1980s, and was the first of its kind being the only ‘city-scale park’ in Amman at the time. It included a mix of commercial, cultural, and entertainment facilities making it a popular destination for families & children. During the first decade of its opening, it served its desired purpose; however, due to the economic crisis and poor management, the nature of the site has changed. It became Amman’s largest car rental place, and started attracting an undesired target audience. Architecturally, the original masterplan’s green to built-up ratio was around 2:1. However, a few built-up additions were later erected - reducing the green areas and making the ratio around 1:1.

Master Plan. 85

In our proposal, we consider these later additions uncomplementary to the site, and propose demolishing them to revert to the original green to built-up ratio. The original masterplan’s main functions included shops, a supermarket, a large amphitheatre, a smaller children’s theatre, luna park, grotto, kindergarten, restaurant, kiosk, car-wash facilities, and abundant parking below the site. In our proposal, we attempt to revive some of the original functions that we see potential in (such as the shops, supermarket, & amphitheatres), and replacing the remaining functions with something new (such as the luna park, grotto, kindergarten, restaurant, kiosk) to give the new King Abdullah II Entrepreneurs.

The Plaza The plaza forms the end of the market spine and the heart of the project. It also contains shops on its perimeter, and can form the main access point to the upper level (the acropolis). Elevators were added to provide accessible access for wheelchair users and parents with strollers - linking the upper parkland with the parking level below. Planting & furniture were added on the edges, while keeping the centre uninterrupted to maintain the flexibility to accommodate for more casual events. This plaza has the potential of becoming an urban bustling city square with international standards.

It’s a renovation and interior design task. Al-Ahliyya Amman university was planning to creat a gym with caffee, as well as a receprion hall introducing them. With an urban industrial look in mind, the primary colour palette is black, shades of grey, and a dash of bright yellow for an accent. To emphasize the urban industrial aesthetic, the waffle slab was left exposed. There’s always beauty in the rawness and authenticity of structure and concrete. 96

As a country of a diverse range of natural habitats and ecosystems, from the ever-green forests in Ajloun, to the fading blue of the dead sea, to the rose city of Petra, and the orange and beige sand dunes of Wadi-rum, we chose our main slogan to be “Jordan: The land of colours and textures”. 100
