Even in autumn Lisbon is still full of movement and energy; the weather is mild and it totally invites everyone to take long walks or do any other activities.

There are so many different spots one can choose: the São Jorge Castle, Bairro Alto, Rossio, Chiado, the Belém Tower, the Commerce Square (Praça do Comércio), the Gulbenkian Museum with its beautiful gardens, and so many others that will blow your mind.

Needless to say all these places get an amazing charm during autumn. The capital of Portugal becomes less crowded and this will be great for you not to wait a long time in a queue to try a Pastel de Belém – some locals like to eat it with a little cinnamon on top, an autumnal spice.

PORTO IN THE FALL

Autumn in northern Portugal is the most classic and perhaps the most beautiful in the entire country. Some of Portugal’s coldest and wettest cities, such as Porto, are located here. Fortunately, the climate is pleasant for those who like the cold and has sunny days from time to time.

Multiple municipalities around Porto are still quite calm even during busy months. But when you combine the tranquility with fall in Porto, it creates a moment you want to live in forever. Botanical gardens like the ones in Massarelos turn even more beautiful, and sitting in the parks becomes an activity you look forward to every day.

The Douro deserves at least one visit per year and the harvest season is the best time to do so.

The hustle and bustle is great in cutting the bunches, filling the baskets of grapes, while the river follows its life down there and the terraces fill the view, in a landscape that is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

In the busiest month of the calendar for a vineyard farm, there are several to open the doors to those who want to see and participate in the work of the harvests

As an option you can also take a cruise across the Douro River staying in a local hotel and participate in the harvest festival, stepping on grapes and enjoying the great local food and wine tastings

From harvesting grapes to wine tasting, definitely one of the best things to do during fall in Portugal!

GRAPE HARVEST IN PORTUGAL

The harvest is one of the most awaited moments in Portugal's wine-growing regions, for farmers and visitors alike.

September and October are the months for the “vindima”, the Portuguese word for the grape harvest.

The exact date of the grape harvest though is decided year by year, depending on the weather and changes drastically from one vineyard to another. This year in both the Douro Valley and Lisbon Wine Region it's set to start earlier.

WE ARE EVERYWHERE WE ARE GLOBAL AGENTS WATCH THE VIDEO HERE

But it isn't just for local farmers. It is one of the most popular experiences among visitors as well, who long to take part in this traditional event. Wineries throughout the country open their doors and welcome an enthusiastic workforce of wine lovers and enthusiasts.

The Douro Valley declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO and one of the oldest wine regions in the world (since 1756), perfectly combines the green and gold of the hills with the course of the river of the same name. It is able to surprise the most demanding visitors, the most difficult tourists to impress, but the truth is that no one can resist the charm of this region.

Alentejo is Portugal’s wine country too, where centuries of tradition are combined with the latest technologies to produce world-class wines. The region’s vineyards predate the Romans and today house more than 250 producers. The soils are very diverse, with varied outcroppings of clay, schist, granite, marble and limestone – perfect for vine cultivation.

The Lisbon viticulture region, formerly known as Estremadura, is a region with a historical imprint on the national viticulture.

Located northwest of the city of Lisbon and stretching out in an area of about 40 km, its vineyard area consists of the most emblematic and traditional Portuguese grape varieties as well as the most famous international ones.

Due to its favorable climate and south facing geography, among other factors, the Algarve has the necessary natural characteristics for producing fine wines.

Currently, Algarve winemakers produce around 80 different grape varieties. With the emphasis on quality rather than quantity, a rigorous process of pruning can sometimes mean up to 50% of nearly ripe grapes are removed.

ALGARVE IN THE FALL

The southern region of Portugal, is fortunate to have very mild autumn. Despite getting colder and rainier, temperatures don’t drop as much, and it’s still possible to wear light clothes and go to the beach. Sunny days in autumn are the Algarve’s specialty.

The best part about Algarve in the fall is probably its empty beaches. Listening to the waves crashing in silence is something we’ll always look forward to.

The southern region has many beaches and fewer trees around; although there’s nature all around, the colors don’t change as drastically.

Should it invest in Madeira for real estate purposes?

Investing in real estate, whether to enjoy years of retirement, to relocate or reap the benefits of the tourist market, should be part of the diversification strategy related to the portfolio and, therefore, is a personal decision.

What should be considered at the time of buying real estate on the island is among several factors:

Location of the property in relation to its capital (Funchal); The facilities available on foot (including health services);

Accessibility of the property to public transport and distance from the airport; and The ultimate economic goal you have for the property itself.

In addition to the above, to avoid, as much as possible, pay too high prices, one should also take into account the age of the property and its condition (hire an independent surveyor before buying), historical prices related to real estate and or similar locations, and whether you will be requesting financing from a Portuguese financial institution.

Madeira's history since the 19th century of maintaining a considerable foreign population thanks to tourism and expatriates is an excellent reason to invest. In addition, Madeira is gaining popularity among American and Canadian expatriates and digital nomads looking to buy properties to relocate effectively. Despite this, nothing prevents the Regional Government in the future from .otentially trying to curb short tourism rents in favor of long-term rents for residents
