New Year’s Time keeps ticking…
“L
ook carefully then how you walk, not as unwise, not as fools but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil.” – Ephesians 5: 15-16
“I have only just a minute, Only 60 seconds in it, Forced upon me – can’t refuse it, Didn’t seek it, didn’t choose it, But it’s up to me to use it – Give account if I abuse it: just a tiny little minute – But eternity in it.
Time is too precious a gift, too scarce a commodity to be squandered. If we waste it, we lose more opportunities than we know. Each moment is an opportunity for prayer, for kindness, for self-control, for personal growth. Make the best possible use of your time, says St. Paul – Col. 4:5. If time is charged with opportunity (kairos “time” in Greek) and not merely a succession of empty moments (chronos “time” in Greek), it is shameful to waste it and sinful to kill it. The Bible places the accent upon time as kairos, as a Godgiven opportunity for us to use, to repent, to turn to Jesus, to love God and neighbor, to grow more and more unto His likeness. How we spend time is far more important than how we spend
money. Money mistakes can be corrected, but when time is gone, it is gone forever. Is time running out on me? Well it’s another year; another moment passing us by. Let’s make this New Year 2012 the best we can make it. For the further we progress in time the closer we come to our demise, the closer we come to the grave. But with Christ, the passing of time signals the approach of the Saviour, the close of this age and the beginning of God’s time, which last unto eternity. Make your pledges, make your New Year’s resolutions and put Christ in the center of your life. Wishing you a blessed and prosperous New Year. Peace be to you. ^
ORTHODOX MISSION TO SIERRA LEONE Many thanks are extended to those who made a donation to the Orthodox Mission to Sierra Leone. Fr. Themis was moved by our outpouring of love. Themis celebrated the liturgy with Fr. Peter on Sunday, November 27. He spoke of his mission in Sierra Leone. Fr. Peter and Dn. Gregory with Fr. Themis.
