THE SANNA STORY

Så skapas en sammetsdrottning Det är lätt att tänka fel när man gör lampskärmar. Man tar ju gärna ett vackert tyg och sätter det på en form som känns rätt. Kanske ett annat snyggt tyg som foder. Man håller sedan upp resultatet och vrider och vänder på det och är så himla nöjd. Tills man sätter det på en lampfot och tänder lampan... För vad som ofta händer är att tyget släpper igenom ljuset på ett sätt som inte alls är smickrande. Mönstret och lystern kanske dör helt. Eller får en helt annan kulör, när tygets infärgning blandas med ljuskällans ofta lite varma sken. Det här är en av tjusningarna med att designa lampskärmar. Lösningen är att sätta dit ett ytterligare ett tyglager, som reglerar genomskinligheten. Men se upp! Blockeras ljuset för mycket så blir ju lampan mörk och det var kanske inte vad man ville. Fast ibland var det kanske precis det man ville. Sammet i dova kulörer är en klassiker. Tänk röda teaterridåer, förrförra seklets rökrum – eller

sjuttiotalets lite knasigare varianter på temat. Icke desto mindre kändes sammet helt rätt inför hösten/vintern 2017/2018. Jag hade min vision klar: mustiga cylinderskärmar av skimrande sammet, fodrade med ett blankt, lätt rynkat tyg och därtill: ett mellantyg som helt blockerade ljuset. Varför? För att jag inte ville att sammeten skulle blekas av ljuset, för att de i stället skulle glöda och blänka inifrån, medan ljuset kastades uppåt mot taket och nedåt mot golvet/bordet. Tyget blev en bomullssammet av högsta kvalitet. Färgsättningen tog ett tag att få till, men vi landade i en ganska klassisk mörkröd, en sjuttiotalsinspirerad orange, en dovt grön och en mörkt blågrå. Så snygga ihop! Och så användbara i så många olika miljöer. Dessutom är dessa juveler handgjorda av skickliga lampmakare, för den där genuina känslan. Hoppas du gillar dem lika mycket som vi gör!

Creating a velvet queen It is easy to go wrong when you’re making lamp shades. You take some beautiful material and put it on a frame that feels right. Maybe add some other nice material for a liner. You hold up the result and look at it from different angles, feeling pretty pleased with yourself. It feels great - until you put it on a lamp stand and turn it on... What often happens is that the material lets the light through in rather unflattering way. The pattern and the lustre might be completely dead. Or you get a completely different colour when the dye in the material mixes with the warm light from the bulb. This is all part of the fun of designing lampshades. The solution is to add another layer of material to control the translucency. Watch out though! If you block out too much light the lamp becomes too dark – perhaps not what you wanted at all. Or, if you’re lucky, it could be exactly what you wanted. Velvet in darker colours is a classic. Theatre curtains, smoking rooms from the last century, or even the rather bizarre variations on the

theme that came up in the 1970s. Whatever the reasons, velvet just felt right for autumn/winter 2017/2018. I had my vision clear, too: rich-coloured cylindrical shades in shimmering velvet, lined with a shiny, slightly wrinkled material and an opaque material between the two, which would completely block the light. Why? Because I didn’t want the velvet to be bleached by the light and the idea was for the lamp to glow and gleam from the inside, while the light would be up towards the ceiling and down towards the floor or a table. The material chosen was cotton velvet of the highest quality. It took a while to get the right colours, but in the end we chose a classic burgundy red, an orange inspired from the 1970s, a deep green and a dark blue-grey. To that, these darlings are handmade by skilled craftsmen. True gems and really stylish together, going with many different interiors. We hope you like them as much as we do!

ROCK'N'ROLL NINA Rock’n’roll, vilda västern-glamor eller sextiotalselegans? Ja, vi är inte ense om var inspirationen till skärmserien Nina kommer från. I vilket fall bjuder den på cylindrar med en svart sidenliknande utsida, och en insida med guldglänsande foder. Därtill pricken över i:et: en rad av guldfärgade nitar i över- och underkant. Alla Nina är vändbara och kan användas både som takskärmar och bordsskärmar. För mer information, se sidan 54. Rock'n'roll, Wild West glamour or sixties elegance? No, we can't agree on the source of inspiration for the Nina lampshade series. Anyhow, they are cylindrical with a black silk-like outside, and an inside golden lining. And the icing on the cake is a series of gold-coloured studs on the top and bottom. All Nina lampshades are reversible and can be used with ceiling lamps or table lamps. Som en bar i Vegas 1968. Stilen passar förstås både till klassiska miljöer och till mer minimalistiska, där skärmen blir en accent. Se även sid 54. Raka, snygga Curtis är en lampfot som tar avstamp i en klassisk formtradition och skulle passat lika bra 1930 eller 1960 som den gör idag. De räta linjerna och korsade ramarna ger foten ett nytt utseende för varje ny betraktningsvinkel. Curtis är tillverkad i solid mässing, med en borstad finish för ett elegant men ändå vilsamt uttryck. Se även sid 66 (bord) och 77 (golv). The Maurice and Wallis lampshade series have an elegant outside of shiny, patterned nude or blue, while the inside is golden and shiny. Just like a 1968 bar in Las Vegas. The style suits both classic and more minimalist environments, where this shades will stand out well. See also p. 54. Straight, stylish Curtis is a lamp stand with classic traditions. It would have suited the 1930s or 1960s as well as the present. From each new angle, its straight lines and crossed frames give the stand another appearance. Curtis is made of solid brass, brushed to produce an elegant, calm style. Big, bigger, E40 Det här är de största ljuskällorna i Watt&Vekes historia, baserade på den feta E40-sockeln. Självklart med energieffektiv LED-teknik och tunna, fina lystrådar så att de nästan ser ut som traditionella glödlampor. De är också väldigt ljusstarka. Med effekten 11W lyser de med hela 1250 lumen, vilket förstås kan dimras. These are the largest light sources ever in the history of Watt&Veke, based on the mighty E40 socket. Needless to say, the new light bulbs use LED technology, the most energy efficient yet, with very fine, tungsten-like filaments. The new light sources are also very bright. At 11W, they produce a staggering 1250 lumens, which can also be dimmed. LED Mr Big

The future spells LED Traditional light bulbs are not very efficient. Less than 10% of the electricity they consume is converted into light. In order to reduce our electricity consumption, all EU countries are replacing the incandescent light bulb with modern alternatives. Halogen lamps use around 30% less electricity. They shine with a clear light, which is well suited to translucent textile shades. Compact fluorescent lamps (CFL) can save up to 80% of electricity consumed. The latest technology, LED (light emitting diode), can save up to 90% electricity and has a number of important benefits: • contains NO mercury • works for up to 25,000 hours or more, i.e. 25 times longer than a standard incandescent bulb and twice as long as a CFL • is even more efficient than a CFL

• is not sensitive to shocks or temperature changes • lights up immediately with full brightness Lamps in homes are used on average for 1000 hours per year. If you put a LED into a lamp fitting, it means that you will not need to change it for at least 25 years!

Radarparet som tar över Anna Pehrson och Erika Cederberg är inte bara Watt&Vekes nya inköps- respektive försäljnings chef. De är också gamla vänner som jobbat tillsammans i många år. -Vi lärde känna varandra när jag jobbade på Hermelin Handels och sålde kaffemaskiner. Anna jobbade då som kategorichef på Pressbyrån/7Eleven och var kund till mig. Vi kände direkt att vi samarbetade väldigt bra, berättar Erika, som även har en bakgrund som sommelier och barista. Det enda som saknades var att få jobba i samma organisation. -Vi kompletterar varandra "Det vi siktar på perfekt – som yin och yang! Snabbare, enklare och snyggare är ledorden, säger Anna. -Sedan ska vi flytta fram våra positioner när det gäller att hjälpa våra kunder att sälja mer. Det är något vi kommer att jobba med hårt framöver och som verkligen kommer att märkas, säger Erika. Om varandra säger de inte så mycket alls, men de utstrålar en härlig positiv energi när de är tillsammans – samtidigt som de gärna utsätter varandra för deras lite knasiga, interna humor. -Hon är ju lite knäpp – men en jäkel på att få saker att hända, säger Erika och ler. -Hallå, look who's talking, svarar Anna. They are also old friends who have worked together for many years. -We got to know each other when I was working at Hermelin Handels and sold coffee machines.
