Space Souvenir is a series of memorials with a dual meaning. On the one hand it pays tribute to the life work of Theodore von Kármán, Hungarian engineer and scientst. On the other hand it aims to represent the farthest places of the Universe known to mankind. We long to wander around the vastest unknown – space – where we are not ted by gravitation and from where our Earth-bound worries and experience would all seem insignifcant. Looking ahead, longing to reach far – that is what the memorials are about. The fifth element of the series – the Aurora Borealis – represents one of the less distant destinations of human longing; we can see it with our bare eyes, and it is also observable on other planets and moons. This extraordinary phenomenon of light forms most often at a height of 100 km, at the edge of space, called the Kármán-line. The rocket-shaped sculpture captures the Kármán-line and the Aurora Borealis; in ultraviolet light the pink and uranium glass splattered with air bubbles fluoresces giving off neon green light. The object is thus lifted into another dimension while it also evokes the fragility and silkiness of the polar light.

A Space Souvenir egy emléktárgy sorozat, amelynek kettős célja van. Egyrészt emléket állít a magyar származású Kármán Tódor, gépészmérnök, űrkutató és tudós, szerteágazó életművének, másrészt célja, hogy megjelenítse az univerzum legtávolabbi nyughatatlan
ismert
pontjait.

leküzdése
felfedezés
nem
utáni
csupán
folyamatos
az
ember
kutatással
kapcsolható össze, hanem az elvágyódás érzetével is. Elvágyódás a messzi ismeretlenbe, a világűrbe, ahol nincs gravitáció és ahonnét a Földi élet problémái aprónak,
jelentéktelennek,
súlytalannak
tűnnek.
Messzebbre
nézni,
távolabbra
vágyni, erről az érzésről szólnak ezek a tárgyak. A széria ötödik eleme, az Aurora Borealis, az egyik legközelebbi elvágyódási pontot, a Sarki-fény jelenségét mutatja be, melyet szabad szemmel is láthatunk a Földről, de más bolygókon és holdjaikon is megfigyelhető. E fantasztikus fényjelenség a leggyakrabban 100 kilométeres magasságban alakul ki, itt húzódik a Föld és a világűr határa, melyet felfedezőjéről neveztek el Kármán-vonalnak. A rakéta alakú plasztika a Kármán-vonalat és az Aurora Borealis fényeit zárja magába. Ultraviola
fényben
az
áttetsző
buborékokkal
elkeveredő
pink-
és
uránüveg
neonzöld színben fluoreszkál. Ezzel – szinte szó szerint – más megvilágításba helyezve a tárgyat, egyúttal megidézve a Sarki-fény misztikus hangulatát és törékeny látványát.
