A&K TRAVEL SPECIALIST EXPERT TIPS – SIOBHAN PEMBERTON
• Africa is a large continent with long distances involved. It’s important to slow down your guests’ itinerary and visit fewer places.
• There is no bad time to visit Africa and each season has its own magic BUT it’s crucial to know where to go at different times of year. Off-peak periods offer excellent value and are worth considering.
• Stay under canvas where you can hear the night noises!
• Be open minded and flexible — one of the great things about safari is you never know what is around the next corner.
• Safari isn’t just about game drives — consider visiting an area where you can experience other activities such as walking safaris, boating or canoeing trips. Zambia and Zimbabwe are countries that are not often thought of first but if you like a variety of activities and authentic safaris then they should be taken into account.
WHEN IS THE BEST TIME TO GO ON SAFARI?
The best time to go on safari in Africa really depends on what you want to see and where you want to go.
• The most popular time to go is during the dry season (June to October) when the vegetation is less dense, and water scarce, making it easier to spot wildlife.
• The wet season (November to May) however, offers the opportunity to experience a lush and green landscape, and is also the time when many animals give birth providing some exceptional viewing opportunities. There are also fewer tourists at this time of year.
Ultimately, the best time to go on safari depends on your priorities, interests, and the specific location you plan to visit.
