The Deep Blue Sea Helen McCrory returns to the National Theatre in Terence Rattigan’s devastating masterpiece, playing one of the greatest female roles in contemporary drama. Tom Burke also features in Carrie Cracknell’s critically acclaimed new production. A flat in Ladbroke Grove, West London. 1952. When Hester Collyer is found by her neighbours in the aftermath of a failed suicide attempt, the story of her tempestuous affair with a former RAF pilot and the breakdown of her marriage to a High Court judge begins to emerge. With it comes a portrait of need, loneliness and long-repressed passion. Behind the fragile veneer of post-war civility burns a brutal sense of loss and longing. King Lear

King Lear has ruled for many years. As age begins to overtake him, he decides to divide his kingdom amongst his children, living out his days without the burden of power. Misjudging his children’s loyalty and finding himself alone in the wilderness, he is left to confront the mistakes of a life that has brought him to this point. Antony Sher returns to the RSC to play King Lear, one of the greatest parts written by Shakespeare in this, one of Shakespeare’s most epic and powerful plays.
Stan Graham’s reputation amongst his peers in the songwriting world has long been established and now, songs like ‘Whitby Harbour’, ‘Alice’, ‘Closing Time’ and ‘Sarajevo’, are taking their place as folk classics up and down the country, and are being covered by the likes of Martyn Wyndham-Read, Vin Garbutt, Bill Whaley & Dave Fletcher and many more. In 2010 one of Stan’s song ‘The Olive and The Vine’ was voted as one of the Folk Songs Of The Decade by an influential international panel of Folk Radio Presenters. Mr Mayhew’s London By Richard Hogger and Tom O’Malley It’s Victorian London - a heaving, bustling, dirty, cramped city. When Henry Mayhew (1812-1887) reported on the lives of the London poor in 1849, he rejected official ideas about the causes of poverty. He told, vividly and with great sympathy, the stories of forgotten needlewomen, tailors, street cleaners, costermongers and street entertainers like the Microscope Exhibitor, causing a sensation, and feeding the sympathy and imagination of the great novelist Charles Dickens. This play tells the moving story of Mayhew’s London, as seen through his life and writings with a large cast and music. ___ Wedi’i gosod yn Llundain oes Fictoria, mae’r ddrama hon yn adrodd stori deimladwy’r ddinas fel y’i gwelir trwy fywyd ac ysgrifennu Henry Mayhew. Thingumajig Theatre
Jeremy Hardy is in his 4th decade as a stand-up this year. That’s a more dramatic way of saying he started 32 years ago and, without a lottery win, probably has at least another 32 years to go. In 2014, the tenth series of Jeremy Hardy Speaks to the Nation was broadcast on Radio 4. He is also well known for his appearances on The News Quiz and I’m Sorry I Haven’t a Clue. Indeed, Alan Bennett recently said he likes him ‘but he’s only on the radio’. However, Jeremy isn’t only on the radio, his television credits include: Jack Dee’s Election Helpdesk (BBC2), QI (BBC1), Mock The Week (BBC2), Grumpy Old Men (BBC1), Back In The Day (BBC2), Not Tonight With John Sergeant (BBC2). He is also on the road all year round and has never stopped doing live shows since 1984. After briefly hibernating in the winter, he’s back out on the road in 2016. ___

‘The Revlon Girl’ is an original play based on the events surrounding the Aberfan Disaster of 1966. Written by Neil Anthony Docking (‘Casualty’, ‘Emmerdale’), directed by Maxine Evans (‘Stella’, ‘Call The Midwife’) and set 8 months after the tragedy, the play draws on the real life story of a small group of bereaved mothers who met every Tuesday above a local hotel to talk, cry and even laugh (without feeling guilty). At one of their meetings, the women looked at each other and realised how much they had let themselves go. Afraid that people would think them frivolous, they secretly arranged for a representative from Revlon to come and give a talk on beauty tips. ___ Mae ‘The Revlon Girl’ yn ddrama wreiddiol sydd wedi cael ei seilio ar ddigwyddiadau’n cwmpasu Trychineb Aberfan ym 1966. Murmur 2.0 & Inked Award-winning Aakash Odedra Company pushes the boundaries of narrative style dance, using a movement vocabulary which blends contemporary Kathak and Bharat Nayam. One of the most soughtafter British choreographer/dancers today, Odedra originally trained in the South Asian styles of Kthak and Bharat Natyam, developing a distinctive movement style working with some of today’s most prestigious choreographers. Murmur 2.0 – Diagnosed with dyslexia at a young age, Aakash found conventional education at school very challenging. As written language was so alien, dance became his preferred mode of expression. In this piece, Aakash and Australian choreographer Lewis Major delve into the idea of warped and exaggerated realities. In collaboration with Lewis and Ars Electronica Futurelab (Linz, Austria), the award winning Aakash Odedra Company explores how the misconceptions of dyslexia can be revealed through visual design, light, sound and movement. Inked – Body-marking and tattoos have been used since old times as marks of identity or experience. In Inked, the body becomes a place of transformation, an exploration of the body’s limits and powers. ___ Cafodd Aakash ddeiagnosis dyslexia yn ifanc iawn gan ganfod addysg gonfensiynol yn hynod heriol. The Zombies emerged in the 60s as one of the British Invasion’s most adventurous and musically sophisticated outfits, with such hits as ‘She’s Not There’, ‘Tell Her No’, and ‘Time of the Season’. Despite its success the band chose to disband after a whirlwind three years. In the years that followed Colin Blunstone built an acclaimed body of work as a solo artist, often working with Argent and fellow ex-bandmate Chris White. Rod Argent achieved substantial success with the band that bore his name, and established a prolific career as a producer. Argent and Blunstone reunited in 1998 amd now the modern day Zombies reamin one of rock’s hardest working touring bands, continuing to perform for a fiercely loyal audience. ___ Grŵp a ddaeth i’r amlwg yn y 60au fel un o fandiau mwyaf anturus a soffistigedig y cyfnod. Nick Danziger – Revisited: 2005, 2010, 2015 Nick Danziger documents life on the edge and explores whether the Millennium Development Goals have succeeded in giving families a better life – are the children still hungry? Are girls now able to go to school? Or did the UN’s stated intentions end up as nothing more than a feel-good exercise to ease the consciences of world leaders? For ten years, across eight countries on four continents, Danziger worked among individuals and families living in both rural and urban areas; hamlets, villages, border towns and city slums, reflecting what has changed over the past ten years for those who have the least.
Mae Nick Danziger yn cofnodi bywyd ar y cyrion ac yn ystyried a yw Goliau Datblygiad y Mileniwm wedi llwyddo i roi bywyd gwell i deuluoedd – a yw’r plant dal yn llwglyd? A yw merched bellach yn cael mynd i’r ysgol? Neu ai dim ond ymarfer gwag i leddfu cydwybodau arweinyddion y byd oedd bwriadau honedig y Cenhedloedd Unedig? Am ddeng mlynedd, ar draws wyth gwlad ar bedwar cyfandir, bu Danziger yn gweithio ymysg unigolion a theuluoedd yn byw mewn ardaloedd gwledig a threfol; pentrefannau, pentrefi, trefi ar y cyrion a slymiau’r ddinas, yn ystyried beth sydd wedi digwydd dros y deng mlyned diwethaf o safbwynt y bobl fwyaf difreintiedig.

Dave Ball: Searching for the Welsh Landscape Searching for the Welsh Landscape is a body of new work by Dave Ball exploring the (questionable) notion that national identity subsists in the landscape. Based on a survey of five distinct hilly regions in Wales, the exhibition exhaustively attempts to address the question of whether there is such a thing as a perfect, archetypal Welsh mountain. Through a series of absurd strategies, the works embrace the nonsensical nature of the quest. Skeptical, ambivalent, and at times plain ridiculous, Ball’s approach heroically fails to reach any conclusions at all.
Corff o waith newydd gan Dave Ball yw Searching for the Welsh Landscape sy’n ystyried y cwestiwn (dadleuol) bod hunaniaeth genedlaethol yn bodoli yn y dirwedd. Yn seiliedig ar arolwg o bump o ranbarthau bryniog penodol yng Nghymru, mae’r arddangosfa yn ceisio ystyried yn drylwyr y cwestiwn a oes y math beth â mynydd Cymreig archdeipaidd, perffaith. Trwy gyfres o strategaethau absẃrd, mae’r gweithiau yn cwmpasu natur nonsenslyd y dasg. Yn sgeptigol, yn amwys, ac ar adegau yn gwbl wirion, mae gwaith Ball yn llwyddo i beidio â chyrraedd unrhyw ganlyniad o gwbl.

1%: Privilege in a time of global inequality Around the world, there is a concern about the increasingly unequal distribution of wealth and income. It is estimated that the poorer half of the global population possesses less than 1% of global wealth, while the richest 10% of adults own 86% of all wealth. A thousand years ago a court noble wrote the first guide to the philosophy of creating a Japanese garden – he called it Sakuteiki or Records of Garden Making. In today’s Japan, where ultrafuturistic design sits next to buildings that have stood for two thousand years, the people have retained a deep affinity to gardening, yet with so little private outdoor space the gardens they produce are the antitheses to the formal creations of sakuteiki. Hynt cardholders are entitled to a ticket free of charge for a personal assistant or carer at the Arts Centre and all the theatres and arts centres participating in the scheme. Visit www.hynt.co.uk or www.hynt.cym to find a range of information and guidance about the scheme. You can also find out whether you or the person you care for are eligible to join the scheme and complete an application form.
