A View From The Bridge

King of Shadows

Words from the Brink

Combining Celtic harp music with jazz and experimental backing Harriet Earis (harp), Andy ‘Wal’ Coughlan (bass) and Sam Christie (percussion) bring their own unique backgrounds and musical tastes into the mix to create an unforgettable, highenergy fusion that is guaranteed to get the feet tapping. The trio has represented Wales at the Festival Interceltique in Lorient and at the Celtic Connections festival in Glasgow. After the success of their 2007 album ‘From the Crooked Tree’ (described as “superlative” by Musician Magazine) tonight will launch their long-awaited second album. Don’t miss it!

Following its smash-hit original broadcast, the Young Vic’s ‘magnetic, electrifying, astonishingly bold’ production of A View from the Bridge returns to cinemas due to audience demand. This stunning production of Miller’s tragic masterpiece won a trio of 2014 Olivier Awards including Best Revival, Best Actor for Mark Strong and Best Director for Ivo van Hove. The great Arthur Miller confronts the American dream in this dark and passionate tale. In Brooklyn, longshoreman Eddie Carbone welcomes his Sicilian cousins to the land of freedom. But when one of them falls for his beautiful niece, they discover that freedom comes at a price. Eddie’s jealous mistrust exposes a deep, unspeakable secret – one that drives him to commit the ultimate betrayal. Encore screening. 2 hours 30 minutes (no interval)

The Zombies The Zombies emerged in the 60s as one of British Invasion’s most adventurous and musically sophisticated outfits, with such hits as ‘She’s Not There’, ‘Tell Her No’ and ‘Time of the Season’. Despite its success, the group chose to disband after a whirlwind three years. In the years that followed Colin Blunstone built an acclaimed body of work as a solo artist, often working with Argent and fellow ex-bandmate Chris White. Rod Argent achieved substantial success with the band the bore his surname, and established a prolific career as a producer. Argent and Blunstone reunited in 1998, and now the modern-day Zombies remain one of rock’s hardestworking touring bands, continuing to perform for a fiercely loyal audience. ___ Grŵp a ddaeth i’r amlwg yn y 60au fel un o fandiau mwyaf anturus a soffistigedig y cyfnod. Power in the Land Nuclear power past and future has been very much in the news recently. The artist group X-10 bring together the fruits of 2 years working together around the closure and decommissioning of Wylfa, the last nuclear power station in Wales and the last and largest of the Magnox stations, closing in December 2015. Working in video, photography, sound, sculpture, installation and alternative photographic processes the artists have tried to come to terms with the conundrums of nuclear power and our energy futures within the environment. Each artist has responded in their own way and in dialogue with each other, to the physical and energetic presence of the power station, the future legacy for the Anglesey site and to the complex associations of nuclear power. Ant Dickinson, Annie Grove-White, Helen Grove-White, Bridget-Kennedy, Jessica Lloyd-Jones, Chris Oakley, Teresa Paiva, Robin Tarbet, Tim Skinner, Alana Tyson

Yn gweithio mewn fideo, ffotograffiaeth, sain, cerflunwaith, gosodwaith a gwahanol brosesau ffotograffig, bu’r artistiaid yn ceisio dod i dermau gyda phroblemau pŵer niwcliar a dyfodol egni o fewn yr amgylchedd. Mae pob artist wedi ymateb yn ei ffordd ei hun, ac mewn dialog gyda’i gilydd, i bresenoldeb corfforol ac egnïol yr orsaf bŵer, etifeddiaeth safle Môn yn y dyfodol, ac i gysylltiadau cymhleth pŵer niwcliar. Special Workshops & Community Projects Gweithdai Arbennig & Phrosiectau Cymunedol

Honno Writing Workshops Heroes, Villains and Shapeshifters: Juggling Archetypal Characters with Rosie Dub Sunday 15 May 2–5pm £18 (£15) An understanding of archetypes is a useful tool for writers. Through discussion, readings and writing exercises we explore a range of archetypes and consider how we might use them to create complex and credible characters in our stories. Rosie Dub is the author of two novels, Gathering Storm (Penguin 2008) and Flight (HarperCollins 2012). She has just completed a new novel and is also working on a nonfiction book called the Alchemy of Story. Rosie is also an editor and mentor, and is currently a Creative Writing Fellow at Aberystwyth University. Writing the Borders of place and self with Emma Musty How does place function in your writing? How does it define your characters and strengthen your story? Which borders are crossed and which remain solid? In this workshop we will use exercises that allow you to explore the potential of the periphery to be a place of creativity and growth and ways in which writing the borders of place and self can be used to create strong and impactful prose.

Emma Musty has just completed a Creative Writing PhD at Aberystwyth University. Her work has appeared widely both in print and online in publications including Aesthetica and Cheval 5, published by Parthian. Both of her novels were longlisted in the Mslexia Novel Prize 2014. She currently teaches at Aberystwyth University and provides creative writing workshops in the community. A Writer’s View of Editing: When? Why? How? With Katherine Stansfield Sunday 17 July 2–5pm £18 (15) In this interactive session we’ll explore the necessary but often maddening process of editing your writing, covering practical ways to view your work objectively rather than subjectively and so see the wood for the trees, as well as looking at different kinds of editing. Katherine will share her experiences (and mistakes to avoid) as an author and poet who has worked with a number of different editors. Katherine Stansfield’s award winning debut novel, The Visitor, was published by Parthian in 2013. Playing House, her first collection of poems, was published by Seren in 2014. A Lecturer in Creative Writing at Aberystwyth University for a number of years, she now writes, edits and teaches freelance.
