Welcome Croeso
We’re looking at the world this autumn, with a particular focus on Europe. We’ve plays about the First World War, an evening of short performances from across Europe, cooking from Andalucía and an evening in a traditional Jewish bathhouse. Our Euro-visions include our exhibitions. Hanes: tales/stories/legends/myths weaves narrative through the work of over 17 artists, both contemporary and work from the School of Art Collections, The Surrealist Murmuration unlocks doors on European surrealism, and award-winning artist Rhi Moxon explores food and folklore from across the continent. Further around the world there’s a welcome return of breathtaking Kathak-inspired dance from Aakash Odedra, an evening of Kathakali, an exploration of migration from Gwyn Emberton, a season of world dance films from Migrations, music from Canada and of course our special autumn treat, a touring production of Around the World in 80 days.. There’s much, much more to enjoy as well as the nights get longer, great comedians like Rich Hall and some musical highlight, not least Elaine Paige and the great Rhydian, Richard and Adam. We end the season with a real Victorian feel with a clutch of Christmassy concerts and our own pre-christmas family show, The Little Matchgirl, a gorgeous magical musical. 2

Forty years ago Doug Scott CBE and that other icon of mountaineering, Chris Bonington, made the first ascent of The Ogre (7285 m) in the Karakoram. Their climb extended the boundaries of what had been achieved before at that altitude. Traditions are flexible, constantly changing and evolving as migration and external influences affect the way we eat, cook and gather. This work explores the wealth of flavours and food traditions that surround us, through illustration and print making. It represents travels across Spain, Eastern Europe, Poland, and at home in Wales, and the rural traditions that, though varied, connect us all in ways we may not realise. | Mae traddodiadau’n hyblyg, yn newid ac yn datblygu o hyd wrth i ymfudiad a dylanwadau allanol effeithio ar y ffordd yr ydym yn bwyta, yn coginio ac yn ymgynnull. Mae’n cynrychioli teithiau ar draws Sbaen, Dwyrain Ewrop, Gwlad Pwyl, ac adref yng Nghymru, a’r traddodiadau gwledig sydd, er yn amrywiol, yn cysylltu ni i gyd â’n gilydd mewn ffyrdd nad ydym efallai yn sylweddoli.

CREATIVE FAMILY FUN 2017
Thursday 12 October | Dydd Iau 12 Hydref Join the Arts Centre, Gwanwyn and Age Cymru Ceredigion as we celebrate the work of Wales’ first ever Gwanwyn club. With an array of exhibition and performances, please do join us to celebrate the wealth of creativity by older people from the local area. The Gwanwyn club is a full day arts club for the over 50s that offers a programme of weekly events to create opportunities for people to meet new friends and try out a whole range of new creative activities and experiences. Inspired by other clubs across the UK such as Meet Me at the Albany in London; described as ‘the kind of stereotypesmashing thing that sticks two knitting needles up at anyone who dares assume a day centre for older people is about flower arranging and endless cups of tea.’ Gwanwyn has offered this refreshing attitude to older people in and around Aberystwyth since May and ZEST is a culmination of their work created over the past six months. If you are interested in finding out more please contact Gwanwyn on gwanwyn@ agecymru.org.uk www.gwanwyn.org.uk Gwanwyn Clubs are supported by Welsh Government and Arts Council of Wales

The Creative Studios project was designed to develop Aberystwyth Arts Centre’s role as a creative hub for arts businesses, arts development agencies, artists and craft workers. The Creative Studios Project designed by Heatherwick Studio, worth £1 million, has been made possible by support from Aberystwyth University, the Arts Council of Wales Lottery Fund and the Welsh Assembly Government. | Bwriad yr unedau oedd datblygu swyddogaeth Canolfan y Celfyddydau fel man creadigol ar gyfer busnesau celf, asiantaethau datblygu’r celfyddydau, artistiad a chrefftwyr. Gwnaethpwyd y Prosiect Unedau Creadigol, sy’n werth £1 miliwn, yn bosibl yn sgil cefnogaeth gan Brifysgol Aberystwyth, Cronfa Loteri Cyngor Celfyddydau Cymru a Llywodraeth y Cynulliad.
