To the north is Echo Cliffs; to the south is an unnamed cliff range. A small cave is located near the bottom of the unnamed cliffs. Off to the south is Springs Fork where water flows year-round. It is a short 0.25-mile trek to the springs. The trail turns into a series of moderate switchbacks as it climbs up the backside of Echo cliffs. A great overlook is at the top of Echo Cliffs; Kyle Canyon, Mummy Mt., and Cathedral Rock are all in view. The overlook is two miles from the trailhead. At The Age Of 65,Happy Drummer/Percussionist Holidays L.J. Harness Is Always On Stage By Mike Henle www.mikehenle.com At the age of 65, Laurence “LJ” Harness is the ideal double to the Energizer Bunny. A professional drummer and percussionist, he picked up his first pair of “sticks” when he was only 9-years-old. Since then, he has shared the stage touring, opening and performing for top-notch talent like Patti LaBelle, Aerosmith, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Kansas, Ted Nugent and Cheap Trick, among others; and he will also perform June 30-July 2 at the South Point Showroom in the presentation of American Trilogy. The man isn’t afraid of a crowd and he will play a mean flam-a-diddle on his desk with the slightest of thought. He’s on-stage whether he’s working the showroom at Findlay Cadillac where he is marketing/promotions director/sales executive; or entertaining a crowd somewhere in Las Vegas. Harness was a member of the band “Hoochie” that played in stadiums with seating for as many as 60,000 fans in the 1970s and 1980s. “I’m on-stage all the time,” said the colorful native of Muncie, Ind., who has lived in Las Vegas since 2009. “Whether it’s cars or performing on stage, you seriously need to be at the top of your game. This is the closest thing to Rock ‘N Roll I could find for a straight gig that produces a good living while also offering a great time.

“Also, in order to be successful in Las Vegas, you must first realize the importance of giving back to the local community.” Harness has been affiliated with the Cadillac brand for 15 years. His connection with the company dates to when he lived in Sarasota, Fla. “Over the years, Cadillac and I have worked hand-in-hand to help raise awareness and funds for worthy or special causes such homeless and disabled veterans; Marine Corps Toys for Tots and Nevada SPCA, to name a few.” As Harness explains, entertainment mixed with the car business has resulted in the perfect combination in a city known world-wide for its never-ending pace, employment opportunities and entertainment. “I think it’s safe to say that once a musician, always a musician,” Harness analyzed. “Las Vegas has so much opportunity for people who are not afraid to work; whether you’re talking about show business, sales or working in a grocery store. “This city was built by innovative people who have never been afraid to take a chance. When a building or property gets old, someone pulls out the checkbook and either rebuilds what’s left, or bulldozes the site to make room for something new.”

Old-time entertainers seem to find a sense of loyalty in Las Vegas, and Harness is one of them. “I am a self-professed old rocker with an edge,” Harness explained. Harness fits into the car business like a ball in a glove. He cannot see himself retiring anytime soon. “My fiance’, Tiffani Foote is so supportive of my efforts,” Harness said. “She’s the backbone that continues to keep me going strong.” Harness seems to fit in well wherever he’s at, and especially in the car business. “Every automobile dealership needs a level of energy,” said Findlay Cadillac general manager John Saksa, who has known Harness for several years. “L.J. brings that energy to this dealership through his deep knowledge of the car business and his notoriety in the community.” +

Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority Receives Final Approval for Happy Holidays Expansion and Renovation of Las Vegas Convention Center District By Oscar B. Goodman, LVCVA Host Committee Chairman
There’s never a dull moment in Las Vegas and this summer has been no exception. Just a few short weeks ago, the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA) reached a historic milestone as the organization’s Board of Directors gave final approval for the expansion and renovation of the Las Vegas Convention Center- a project coined as the Las Vegas Convention Center District (LVCCD). Undoubtedly, tourism is the lifeblood of Southern Nevada’s economy and this decision secures Las Vegas’ position as the world’s premier business destination. Last year, Las Vegas welcomed a record-breaking 42.9 million visitors and of those, an all-time-high of 6.3 million people traveled to the destination for business purposes. Historically, Las Vegas has always been a popular travel destination on weekends and convention traffic helps the destination keep its nearly 150,000 hotel rooms teeming with traffic throughout the week. The LVCCD is a thoroughly vetted project that has gained the support of community leaders and lawmakers throughout the state of Nevada. These decision makers have made incredible strides in identifying business travel as a conduit for fueling the economy and improving the quality of life for those who call the Silver State home.

The LVCVA is eager to get to work on the expansion and renovation of the Las Vegas Convention Center to help move the destination forward. The LVCCD project is expected to support nearly 14,000 construction jobs and nearly 7,800 full-time permanent jobs upon completion. The project will generate an additional $1.4 billion into the economy during construction and have an annual incremental economic impact of $810 million while attracting one million additional visitors each year. The LVCCD expansion and renovation will be completed in a phased approach with a projected completion date of 2023. Phase 1 will be the construction of the new 1.4 millionsquare-foot expansion with 600,000 square feet of exhibit space and the accompanying meeting rooms and support space. This phase is projected to be complete by 2021. The second phase will be the complete renovation of the existing 3.2 million-square-foot facility. The phased approach will ensure that no business will be displaced during the construction and renovation. The project will allow the LVCVA to pursue new business opportunities while also growing the shows currently taking place in the destination. The LVCVA has identified 70 additional, new events, that could potentially be brought to the Not That Old And Loving It!
destination in the next decade. These 70 shows would grow the economic impact of Southern Nevada’s $12.4 billion meetings and conventions industry by nearly 50 percent. Many people are surprised to learn Las Vegas is home to nearly 22,000 meetings and conventions each year. This month alone, the destination will host large-scale events including RollerCon 2017, Cosmoprof North America 2017, Las Vegas Market and the ASD Show. As Chairman of the Las Vegas Host Committee, I often have the pleasure of welcoming these groups and thanking them for choosing Las Vegas as their destination of choice. It’s amazing to see how a heartfelt ‘thank you’ makes such a big difference in these visitor’s overall experience in Las Vegas.
