the purpose of “loft in the city” was to design a two story loft apartment. this loft apartment is in a row house in the city of philadelphia. the goal was to design a liveable space that reflected and embraced the client’s home country of japan.
my goal for this project was to create a unique experience traveling from space to space. this is carried out by surrounding the stair and upper balcony with steel cables reflecting bamboo. the wall that extends through each floor creates portal like doors for passing from room to room. the wall storage creates a grid like pattern with the positioning of its shelves, reflecting the shoji screens, tatami mats, and gridded tokyo cityscape.

Pro j e c t D e script ion the purpose of this “Senior- Child Mentor Center” was to design a place that children would come after school to receive guidance, learning help, and supervision from senior citizens. the project required attention toward what furniture and material choice would be most appropriate for both children’s size and senior’s accessibility.

C o n c e pt : Ad ven t ure T e r rain my goal for this project stemmed from thinking about what children like to do. through this research I discovered the idea of adventure. to simulate the idea of adventure I gained inspiration from topography levels and nature. these influences are seen in my project through its color scheme, “mound built-in elements and picnic- like furniture.

C o n c e pt : A lt e rnat ive Sen ses my goal for this project was to create a space that had dynamism with angled walls. the inspiration of concept was drawn from the idea of the hand. those who are hard of hearing usually have to depend on an alternate form of communication: sign language. the angles and filleted walls are inspired by the straight and curved moment of the hand. the bright colors are used to engage the user’s sight without being overwhelming.

Pro je c t D e sc ript ion the purpose of the “historical bookstore” was to create a space for people to read, lecture, perform, and enjoy the literary works in the space. the space was an abandoned slaughter house in rome. this proposed the challenge of historic preservation. the goal was to manipulate the exisitng structure as little as possible.

my goal for this project was to create a sophisticated circus. the inspiration was drawn from the verticality of the central stage of a circus. a tensile structure flows throughout the space, juxtaposing the grid-like space plan that is determined by the existing column structure. circular book shelves of various sizes penetrate the tensile structure which brings attention to these moments.
