Elaine A. Heath brings a fresh voice to the ancient practice of evangelism. She serves as McCreless Associate Professor of Evangelism at Perkins School of eology and is an ordained minister in the United Methodist Church. She initiated New Day and the Epworth Project, a growing network of missional, new monastic faith communities. Some of her books include e Mystic Way of Evangelism, We Were the Least of ese, and e Gospel According to Twilight.

Walter Brueggemann’s writings, scholarship and preaching have revitalized the prophetic voice of the Hebrew Scriptures for contemporary listeners. His acclaimed writing and scholarship is recognizable in his nearly 60 books, including the classic Prophetic Imagination, and most recently, e Practice of the Prophetic Imagination. He is the William Marcellus McPheeters Professor Emeritus of Old Testament at Columbia eological Seminary. He is ordained in the United Church of Christ and is a past president of the Society of Biblical Literature.

Widely read and respected, Dallas Willard dwells in the knowledge of God. His work declares the present availability of the kingdom of God and invites people into apprenticeship with Jesus. As a professor in the School of Philosophy at the University of Southern California since 1965, he is published in the areas of epistemology, the philosophy of mind and of logic, and the philosophy of Edmund Husserl. He has received awards for such books as e Divine Conspiracy, Renovation of the Heart, and his most recent, Knowing Christ Today.

PRESIDENT’S LETTER

(from left) Sandy Lowe, exhibits; Brady Bryce, director; and Anna Jane Perrey, coordinator

Welcome to the campus of Abilene Christian University, where Summit is a tradition as established as ACU itself. On our campus you will find students, faculty, participants and guests who represent dozens of nations: a genuine crossroads of the world. Each September we gather like this to worship God and participate in conversations about how our lives can best honor our Creator. is year’s program offers you a variety of classes, lectures and discussions about living faithfully. We believe that following Jesus transcends the boundaries that, at times, separate us. In God, we find our common ground and our shared commitment. We are honored to be your host, and hope you will enjoy this time of conversation with new friends, return home to make a difference in your world, and come see us again soon! In Him,

Phil Schubert, President

ank you for making Summit part of your annual spiritual journey deeper in relationship to God. If this is your first time to Summit or ACU, then you may be surprised by the vibrant conversation and diverse expressions of faith found here. We hope you will hear challenging and encouraging words from God through the many people speaking this week. As we listen to the story of Hosea, I pray that we will see the steadfast love of God and be inspired to return to knowing God more deeply. Our knowledge of God, as represented by Jesus and empowered by the Spirit, is what we offer our world driven by its desire. We invite you to prayerfully enter this learning experience and ready yourself for radical growth in your knowledge of God. Blessings,
