Sometimes it seems we are a bit edgy. Our society is polarized over political views, Facebook posts, religious assertions, and even solutions. is separation feels more pronounced when forced to choose sides on any of a dozen “hot button” topics. As Christians, where do we locate ourselves in disagreements? Is there a place to stand together even as difficult issues, beliefs and practices threaten to divide us? I believe Christians can move confidently to such a place – hearts set on following Jesus. e gospels share stories of what happens when our different beliefs and practices must face the Son of God. Disciples are those found with Jesus at the margins. is is your invitation to step away from your normal location and more completely follow Jesus. Be challenged to rediscover God and grow closer to God through our active practice of service. Peace to you,

Luke’s gospel narrative draws us into God’s story as participants along with other surprising people. These fringe people unexpectedly take the spotlight: women considered insignificant, bottom-of-the-career-ladder shepherds, arrogant religious leaders, those physically hindered, and those lacking social esteem. All outsiders – those marginalized by their class, gender, knowledge, race, health, poverty or abundance – are drawn into Jesus’ ministry. And while Jesus hangs out in the margins of society, He speaks powerfully prophetic words that challenge the central systems, structures and even the religious lines dividing the marginal and the important. Jesus not only loves those at the margins, but suffers and dies at the margin. Jesus transforms what it means to be saved and how we follow God. Experience the active heart

of discipleship at the edge.
