● LEADER CARE With the demanding responsibilities of shepherding and pastoring comes the potential for isolation and burnout. Leaders in mission contexts and in domestic congregations find renewal, self-care and “soul-care” essential to sustain effective and long-term ministry.

As our churches strive to spiritually form our children into the image of Christ this track will aid participants in practical processes for helping children mature emotionally, socially, physically and spiritually. D

Those interested in ministering to hearing-impaired children, youth and adults will benefit from seasoned church leaders who are working throughout the world with the deaf. S SPECIAL NEEDS

Those in our churches with special needs face many challenges. These families require intentional ministry with practical resources as well as emotional and spiritual support so they can thrive in our communities. Congregations need a theology of disability that reaches the vulnerable and calls all to an inclusive community of faith, hope, love and wholeness. W

WORSHIP AND PREACHING

Worship is central to the heart of every Christian. In today’s congregations, worship is taking on numerous styles and forms. Classes in this track include worship planning, preaching, a cappella music, instrumental worship, blended worship, and art. YA

yOUNG ADULT

These classes will provide a wealth of insights for those who minister to Millennials because this generation of young adults responds to innovative approaches to congregational life. Worship forms, intergenerational learning and spiritual contexts will be addressed. YM

yOUTH MINISTRy

Adolescents in congregations today require more than entertainment and amusement. They desire to invest their time and energy in the lives of people living in poverty and oppression. Veteran youth ministers provide classes examining current and future ways to spiritually form adolescents into the image of Jesus.

● MERCy AND JUSTICE Disciples of Jesus are devoting significant time, resources and prayer as we join God in the restoration of all things. This track provide insights from social justice leaders in how Christians can demonstrate God’s mercy and justice to people living in poverty, oppression and discrimination throughout the world.

● MISSIONS IN NORTH AMERICA North America is becoming a mission field. Significant numbers of congregations are in decline and congregational leaders are seeking answers for living out the gospel in the 21st century. Missional expressions are taking many forms and the practitioners in this track will provide insights about reaching the large number of seekers in North America.

● OUR FUTURE HISTORy In this track church historians assist us in developing a historical consciousness of issues that have shaped the Stone/Campbell tradition and will explore critical issues (i.e. racial reconciliation, baptism, etc.) affecting congregations now and in the future.

● PHILIPPIANS Sessions in this track will inform and guide us as we delve into this letter from Paul and will provide assistance as we study, teach and preach through Philippians.

● SPIRITUAL JOURNEyS Spiritual formation pertains to the ways in which people, literature, scripture and events are used by God to make mature disciples of Jesus. Numerous individuals will relate their own spiritual journeys and identify spiritual practices to assist us in creating space in our lives for God to work.

● UNIVERSITy STUDENTS Summit introduces university students to exceptional content and presenters from many locations. Students are welcomed and encouraged to attend any Summit class, but 15 or so classes are identified as having special interest to them. Recommended topics range from mercy and justice, worship, racial reconciliation, youth ministry, sexuality, and “next church.”

President’s Letter Welcome to the 109th ACU Summit! It is a blessing to have Christians from around the world come together for this time of conversation, encouragement and reﬂection on the Word of God. May we seek to imitate Jesus by engaging in community, exploring scripture and enriching our ministries. is year we will focus our time on the Philippian letter and hear again how Christ humbled himself to became a servant for us all. At ACU, we call our students to be Christlike servants, “to live as citizens of heaven, conducting themselves in a manner worthy of the good news of Christ,” regardless of their college major or chosen career path. I hope you will take time during Summit to visit with our students and encourage them as they make a diﬀerence in the world through the many diverse and meaningful ways they serve others. It is a joy to have you on campus for this conversation with them and all who attend on the theme of “Same Mind: United in Imitating Jesus.” In Him,

Interim Director’s Letter We all enjoy hearing from our loved ones. No doubt, the Christians at Philippi savored every word written to them by their beloved friend Paul. e apostle expresses thanksgiving for his brothers and sisters. He prays over them, appreciating their kindnesses on his behalf, and encouraging them to daily living that is worthy of the gospel and to always point to Christ, both for now and forever. On Sept. 20-23 at Summit we will beneﬁt from conversations, preaching, teaching and many other experiences that will challenge us and unite us as we strive to become more like Christ. My prayer is that as we study lessons from the Philippian letter we will be reminded of our heavenly citizenship, that we will embody Christ’s humility as we mature spiritually and truly know the completeness of true joy. Members of the Summit Steering Committee – Roland Orr, Anna Jane Perrey, Mandy Scudder, Judy Siburt and Lauren Ward – have prayerfully planned experiences to enhance our pursuit of Christlikeness. at was Paul’s passion and that is our deep desire for all who participate in Summit 2015. Things to Know Registration • Where do I start? Pre-registration will open on Monday, July 1, 2015 at acu.edu/summit. Registration opens Sunday, Sept. 20, at 3 p.m. When you first arrive at campus, go directly to Summit Headquarters inside the McGlothlin Campus Center (see campus map on page 40). There you may pick up your registration packet. Fee • How much does Summit cost? Summit is an event open to all who register. No fee required. We welcome your donation to Ministry Events at acu.edu/summit. Parking • Where can I park on campus? Our campus is growing and construction is constant. To avoid delays and receive door service, park at Hillcrest Church of Christ or University Church of Christ and use our shuttle buses for transportation to many buildings on campus. Class Schedule • Why are some class times different on Tuesday?

Class sessions are 45 minutes in length. Tuesday morning classes begin at different times that align with the university class schedule. Child Care • What can my children do while I attend Summit? Childcare is provided for preschool children at no charge for those who register. Please preregister your child to ensure availability through on-line registration opening July 15, 2015. Daytime care only (Hillcrest Church of Christ Nursery) 6 months to 5 years of age only Monday and Wednesday: 8:30 a.m. - 12:15 p.m. and 1:15-4:45 p.m. Tuesday: 8 a.m. - 12:15 p.m. and 1:15-4:45 p.m. Exhibits • Where can I go for conversation and information? Exhibits will be housed in Moody Coliseum, McGlothlin Campus Center and the Onstead-Packer Biblical Studies Building. Register at Summit Headquarters in the McGlothlin Campus Center for more details. Shuttle Service • How can I get around campus? Shuttle Service will be provided throughout Summit at no charge from 7 a.m. - 10 p.m. Pick-up/drop-off locations include Hillcrest Church of Christ, University Church of Christ, Onstead-Packer Biblical Studies Building, and Moody Coliseum. confronted by the power of Rome, speaks across the ages to the 21st century. According to Paul, a church facing hostility from society responds, not with anxiety, but with joy. It challenges the emphasis on status and honor with the story of the one who “emptied himself.” This community, composed of people from diverse backgrounds, is united in the mind of Christ. Surrounded by those who look to political power for salvation and claim that “Caesar is Lord,” it proclaims instead the sovereign lordship of Jesus, our Savior.
