Acknowledgments I would like to thank my tutors Mr. Dilip Panchal, Mr. Hamid Raj, Mrs. Mittul Sindhav and Mr. Anand Shah for teaching me the right attitude towards approaching design, which was the real learning while working on the projects documented in this portfolio. For this I am very grateful.

Technical Drawing Abstract This two-part exercise aimed to develop our skills to analyse, compose and present a technically correct drawing. Notably, the first drawing in the following page was not part of the requirements, but came out of the passion I developed for the beautiful objects encountered during the course of this exercise.

How Things Work: Although not part of the technical drawing module, the exercise demanded a similar style of analysis and representation, and composing the learnings into a cohesive, clear drawing.

Model Making Abstract The brief required a 1:100 scale model of the Farnsworth House, by legendary architect Mies van der Rohe. The process of making the model reflected Mies’ principles, as we first developed an understanding of a number of materials, then whittled the final list down to a frugal 4. This project was a group effort, but my contribution included guiding the process, cutting and pasting, and lighting. The end result is not just accurate in form, but in soul.

5

The only model in CFP to capture the soul of this masterpiece through light. A lot of planning went into routing the wires through the service shaft and cutting channels into the MDF!

7

Structures Abstract The brief required us to design a cantilevered bridge, with 50cm span, which could withstand a load of 15kgs. The material to be used was watchmaker’s stick. The initial process leaned towards exploring reinforcements, but towards the end a sound structural system was developed.

(Top Left) Figure: Various explorations of form, joinery and reinforcements. Notably, our chamfered lap joint was an innovation we came up with ourselves. (Top Right) Figure: Analysis and detail drawing of components. (Left) Figure: The process model is to the left, while the final, recitified model is to the right. A more balanced structural system was implemented toward the end.

Sangam: A Confluence of Streets Abstract The street network of Varanasi is like a spiderweb, with vibrations in the farthermost corners rippling into the inner strands, albeit muted. The aim of this project was to study the interactions taking place at different junctions of this “web. noting the changes as one moves into the innermost parts. A consideration of social, physical and architectural factors provides the basis for this study.

Design Problem: Chakra Nilaya Abstract The brief required a shelter for a young yoga practitioner on the banks of a lake in Jaisalmer, who also conducts classes for 4 students. The final design evolved out of an intense process, considering climatic, psychological and experiential factors, driven by the significance of “chakras” in a yogi’s life.

Personal Projects Abstract Projects done in my personal capacity, including music, art, origami, product design, graphic design and client work. This showcases the wide range of creative fields I explore, and the proficiency I am able to achieve therein.
