Portugal wan recently the award of Europe’s best Golf destination. In this trip towards the best Golf courses of Portugal we want to prove that the award was well delivered and the honors deserved. This itinerary starts in Algarve, at San Lourenzo Golf Course, where besides the magnificent field, there is also the possibility to enjoy the beach and to taste a delicious fish or shellfish in one of the many restaurants of this privileged area. Still in Algarve, we will have a day of pure pleasure in a boat ride, on the set of the extraordinary Ria Formosa’s fauna and flora, which final goal will be the Quinta da Ria Golf Course. This field, designed by Rocky Roquemore, offers spectacular views over the Ria Formosa’s Natural Reserve and the Atlantic, surrounded by a landscape of great beauty, where the locusts, olive-trees and a lot of other wild species prevail. The following day we will go to Monte Rei Golf & Country Club, in east Algarve. Situated in an almost intact rural area, between the Serra do Caldeirão mountains and the Atlantic Ocean, this enterprise was carefully design in a way to guarantee the landscape´s preservation and valorization, spreading for more than 400 hectares of country landscape, in which playing would be a pleasure.

We will leave Algarve towards the city of Évora regarding a day of relax, history and culture. Than we will go back on the road again, this time, to the one of the country’s most beautiful areas, with a unique beauty – Tróia. In this great peninsula is located the Troia Golf Championship Resort, considered the best "Championship Course" of our country. It was designed by the famous Robert Trent Jones and officially opened in 1980. It was also considered Europe’s best Golf course by the magazine Golf World. Tróia Golf Championship Course, with a very comfortable, rustic clubhouse, with great quality service, will be certainly an unforgettable experience. Then we will go to Lisbon, so that, the next day, we could enjoy the Oitavos Dunes, a course located in SintraCascais´s Natural Park. Surrounded by pine trees and dunes, it is located in an area of great natural beauty. The sea is a permanent presence along the entire course. This itinerary was carefully design by one of the best actual golf architects, the ex-president of American Society of Golf Course Architects, Arthur Hills, which preserved the unique characteristics of the land, designing a natural course with 20 feet. The environmental certification was achieved through Audubon International, an American environmental association. Oitavos Dunes is also the first Golf course in Europe and the second in the world known as a "Certified Signature Sanctuary – Gold”. Currently it ranks in the Top 100 of the American Golf Magazine.

Faro, Capital of the Algarve, is located in the South of Portugal. The Municipality of Faro has 6 parishes: Conceição de Faro, Estoi, Santa Bárbara de Nexe, Montenegro, São Pedro and Sé. The Municipality has around 60.000 inhabitants in 210 km2; 30% of the area is part of the Ria Formosa Natural Reserve. The city is bordered on the South by a dune of 19 km in length, which is interrupted by openings that connect the Sea to the Ria Formosa, forming 3 main islands. Faro is a millenary city to be (re)discovered. Of pre-roman origin, called Ossonoba, it was one of the most important urban centers in the South of the Iberian Peninsula. Today, due to its centrality and the fact of being the capital city, Faro has important infrastructures and public services of the region. The airport receives more than 5.000.000 tourists every year; the University is internationally acknowledged in Marine Sciences, Tourism Management and Biotechnologies; the Algarve Central Hospital and 6 high schools are facilities that mark the central role of Faro.

The San Lorenzo Golf Course was opened in 1988 and takes advantage of wonderful topography on the Quinta do Lago estate, winding its way gently over undulating pine woodland. The troiagolf Championship Course, designed by the famous American golf architect Robert Trent Jones Senior is an amazing links and one of the most fascinating golf challenges in Portugal, located along the peninsula of Tróia – a region of outstanding natural beauty and one of the most scenic places in Portugal, between the Atlantic Ocean and the Sado Estuary, with an imposing view over the Arrábida Mountain Robert Trent Jones Senior conceived a golf course with 18 holes, par 72, with a length of 6.317 meters, an extraordinary “mater piece”, truly integrated in the natural landscape, a wonderful pine forest surrounded by sand dunes and the sea. The white sand is present, not only in the bunkers that protect the small and straight greens, but also in the surroundings where natural plants are found in abundance, giving it an extraordinary beauty There are two holes that deserve a special reference – numbers 3 and 18. Hole number 3, a par 4 with a remarkable landscape and magnificent sea view, was considered by Robert Trent Jones Senior himself as one of the best he ever designed, and choosing it as part of his ideal 18 hole course.
