BEST OF PORTUGAL GOLF Portugal wan recently the award of Europe’s best Golf destination. In this trip towards the best Golf courses of Portugal we want to prove that the award was well delivered and the honors deserved.

This itinerary starts in Algarve, at the Oceânico Golf in Vilamoura, one of the world’s best known courses, signed by the English golf architect Frank Pennink. It has an exceptional integration of its trace in the land field, always remaining in the memory of all the players that pass through there.

After that we will go to Vale de Lobo, to have the pleasure to play on the San Lourenzo Golf Course, where besides the magnificent field, there is also the possibility to enjoy the beach and to taste a delicious fish or shellfish in one of the many restaurants of this privileged area.

Still in Algarve, we will have a day of pure pleasure in a boat ride, on the set of the extraordinary Ria Formosa’s fauna and flora, which final goal will be the Quinta da Ria Golf Course. This field, designed by Rocky Roquemore, offers spectacular views over the Ria Formosa’s Natural Reserve and the Atlantic, surrounded by a landscape of great beauty, where the locusts, olive-trees and a lot of other wild species prevail.

The following day we will go to Monte Rei Golf & Country Club, in east Algarve. Situated in an almost intact rural area, between the Serra do Caldeirão mountains and the Atlantic Ocean, this enterprise was carefully design in a way to guarantee the landscape´s preservation and valorization, spreading for more than 400 hectares of country landscape, in which playing would be a pleasure.

We will leave Algarve towards the city of Évora regarding a day of relaxation, history and culture. Than we will go back on the road again, this time, to the one of the country’s most beautiful areas, with a unique beauty – Tróia. In this great peninsula is located the Troia Golf Championship Resort, considered the best "Championship Course" of our country. It was designed by the famous Robert Trent Jones and officially opened in 1980. It was also considered Europe’s best Golf course by the magazine Golf World.

Tróia Golf Championship Course, with a very comfortable, rustic clubhouse, with great quality service, will be certainly an unforgettable experience.

Then we will go to Lisbon, so that, the next day, we could enjoy the Oitavos Dunes, a course located in SintraCascais´s Natural Park. Surrounded by pine trees and dunes, it is located in an area of great natural beauty. The sea is a permanent presence along the entire course. It is also possible to enjoy the Serra de Sintra and Cabo da Roca at the north side and the Atlantic Ocean at the west side. This itinerary was carefully design by one of the best actual golf architects, the ex-president of American Society of Golf Course Architects, Arthur Hills, which preserved the unique characteristics of the land, designing a natural course with 20 feet. The environmental certification was achieved through Audubon International, an American environmental association.

Oitavos Dunes is also the first Golf course in Europe and the second in the world known as a "Certified Signature Sanctuary – Gold”. Currently it ranks in the Top 100 of the American Golf Magazine.

Concluded our itinerary on Continental Land, we will leave with destination to the islands. Porto Santo, in Madeira, the first port, where we will discover Porto Santo Golf, designed, originally, by the golfer Severiano Ballesteros, on a total course of 21108 feet, with peaceful and gorgeous sea view landscapes.

Next destination, S達o Miguel Island, Azores. Our journey could not end in any better way, in Furnas Golf Club. This Golf course, whose first holes were made by Mackenzie Ross in 1936, represents the first course of the island.

Placed in the center of a powerful volcanic landscape with dazzling tropical vegetation, provides an incredible Golf experience.

Faro, Capital of the Algarve, is located in the South of Portugal. The Municipality of Faro has 6 parishes: Conceição de Faro, Estoi, Santa Bárbara de Nexe, Montenegro, São Pedro and Sé. The Municipality has around 60.000 inhabitants in 210 km2; 30% of the area is part of the Ria Formosa Natural Reserve. The city is bordered on the South by a dune of 19 km in length, which is interrupted by openings that connect the Sea to the Ria Formosa, forming 3 main islands.

Faro is a millenary city to be (re)discovered. Of pre-roman origin, called Ossonoba, it was one of the most important urban centers in the South of the Iberian Peninsula.

Situated in the heart of Vilamoura, 20 minute drive from Faro airport, this Frank Pennink designed parkland style layout is one of the oldest in the region and renowned all over the golfing world. Often described as the Grande Dame of Algarve courses, it meanders throughout impressive pine trees - the principal hazard - over gently undulating natural terrain. Although it opened in 1969, the course was completely renovated and modernized 27 years later although no major changes were made to the magnificent layout. The white sand is present, not only in the bunkers that protect the small and straight greens, but also in the surroundings where natural plants are found in abundance, giving it an extraordinary beauty There are two holes that deserve a special reference – numbers 3 and 18. The most respected golf course ranking in the world is published biannually by GOLF Magazine. Last September 2011 Oitavos Dunes jumped 20 places up the list to be considered the 68th best course in the world and the second best in mainland Europe. The recognition is a result of 15 minor changes to the course, including new tees on holes 7 and 9, and the placement of sand dunes in strategic holes such as the 10th.

Porto Santo is one of the islands in Madeira Archipelago. It is situated at a distance of 50 Km from Madeira Island. The "Golden Island", as it is also known, is 11 Km long and 6 km wide. It was discovered in 1418 by João Gonçalves Zarco, Tristão Vaz Teixeira and Bartolomeu Perestrelo. According to history, it was given this name as it had provided a port of shelter from a bad storm. Porto Santo boasts long beaches of fine yellow sand known for therapeutic properties, as well as its calm warm blue sea , with temperatures ranging between 18°C and 22°C. The local climate is stable and dry and temperatures do not vary much between the seasons, which makes this a very pleasant place to go to the beach all year round.
