LISBON Lisbon is an illuminated city. The almost constant presence of sunshine and the River Tagus transforms the Portuguese capital into a mirror of a thousand colours - highlighting the city’s unique architecture and beauty. There are so many things to see and do in Lisbon that visitors have access to a wide array of different experiences. As we walk through Lisbon - whose history spans back thousands of years – we find streets filled with heritage monuments, and characteristic neighbourhoods where the city first developed and can still be experienced at its most genuine level. Évora is the capital of Alentejo Province and one of the tourist attractions of the south. In spite of sharp population growth which has led to the construction of new quarters to the west, south and east, this museum city has retained all of its traditional charm inside the Vauban-style wall built in the 17th century according to the plans of Nicolas de Langres, a French engineer. The rural landscape to the north has remained virtually unchanged.Évora has been shaped by some 20 centuries of history, going as far back as Celtic times. It fell under Roman domination, when it was called Liberalitas Julia and, among other ruins, still retains those of the Temple of Diana.

Situated in Reguengos de Monsaraz, Herdade do Esporão is a place that exudes history. Its roots date back to the pre-historic times of megalithic cultures and the Bronze Age. However, even during the Roman occupation, the wines of the Esporão settlement were exported throughout the Empire. At the heart of this estate, and in the scorching Alentejo heat, we find the Esporão Fortified Enclosure, which includes the Nossa Senhora dos Remédios Chapel and a curious fortified gate, with a winding staircase that leads up to the ramparts.

ESTREMOZ In the very heart of the Alto Alentejo, the soil that originated from schist and limestone clay as well as the climate with its continental influence, make for unusually consistent quality, and ideal conditions for exceptional wine growing. This was the location chosen by Joテ」o Portugal Ramos to make his own wines, after a long career as consultant oenologist in wine creation in the main wine-growing regions of Portugal. Joテ」o Portugal Ramos began planting his own vineyards around Monte da Caldeira in 1990, choosing the double cordon for vine spacing. Since then the area covered by vineyards has increased, with the prime objective of obtaining from each vintage a selection of grapes capable of producing exceptional wines. In average, vineyards are planted since 1997.

DEPARTURE TO SÃO PEDRO DO CORVAL, A SMALL VILLAGE WHICH REPRESENTS THE COUNTRY’S BIGGEST POTTERY CENTER. VISIT TO THE POTTERY FACTORY AND EXPERIENCE WITH CLAY ON THE POTTER’S WHEEL. TRANSFER TO MARINA DA AMIEIRA TO BOAT TRIP OVER THE ALQUEVA’S WATERS, THE EUROPE’S LARGEST MAN-MADE LAKE.
It was in the Alentejo, a region of scarce water supplies, that the great Alqueva Dam, built across the River Guadiana between Moura and Portel, created the largest artificial lake in Europe. The new beauty that came into being with this lake is surprising and it has many aspects that make it a special case compared to the many reservoirs that can be found in other parts of the world: the typically Alentejan landscape that surrounds it, made up of thousands of olive trees, cork oaks and holm oaks; and, because we are in a frontier zone, the notable heritage of fortified towns and villages which have defended it throughout the centuries.

PORTO
Oporto is one of the last undiscovered European metropolises. It is an ancient port steeped in history and tradition. It is a highly atmospheric place that has become known for its monuments by renowned architects (Gustave Eiffel's Dona Maria Bridge, Nicolau Nasoni's Clerigos Tower, Rem Koolhaas' Casa da Musica, or Siza Vieira's Serralves Museum). This is the city that originated and named Port Wine, and gave birth to one of world history's legendary figures, Prince Henry the Navigator (you'll also see in new guidebooks that it is also the birthplace of that world-famous fictional character, Harry Potter author J. K. Rowling was living in Oporto as an English teacher when she started writing her first book). These are just a few curious facts about this intriguing and majestic city that you have to visit, see and feel.

SOME TIPS FOR YOU: Use clothes according the time of year. Usually, in the summer the south of the country is hotter than the north; but in the wintertime, the country’s climate calls for a fireplace, with snow only on the north and center of the country. Warm clothes in the Winter and pretty fresh in the Summer is our suggestion. When packing you should remember that the luggage should be very lightweight. It is a big journey, but we will change hotel several times and go through north and south of the country with a heavy luggage will be exhausting after some days. This journey is richer in landscapes, culture, and history. It is a whole country that you will want to carry. Count on many memory cards, because you will take lots and lots of pictures. You could bring them or buy here, but hundreds of pictures are guaranteed.
Portugal is a friendly country, with nice and welcoming people. In the villages and small towns it is still usual to leave the doors and windows opened and in the big cities, with a cosmopolitan environment, like Lisbon and Porto, in general we also feel safe and the walks on the streets are very pleasant and happy moments. Portuguese gastronomy is very rich. There are the refined and quality wines and the incomparable confectionary. You will have the opportunity to enjoy amazing flavors and fragrances. You need to bring a refined taste! We are a country with many traditions, with a rich history of many centuries, unique and welcoming. Observe, feel, smell and taste, let yourself go through Portugal. And then return soon!
