The benches accommodated more than 50,000 people and a cabin next to the arena was dedicated to Emperor of Rome, who was revered by gladiators before spectacle with a greeting that would become famous: "Hail, Caesar! Those who are going to die salute you" . UNDERGROUND COLOSSEUM The Colosseum become even more interesting since it opened its underground passages to the public. Now visitors can see where lions, tigers, bulls and gazelles were kept before being hoisted on an elevator made of strings, notable theatrical device at the time because the animals appeared from nowhere in the arena. Gladiators and scenarios were also hoisted in this way. Visitors can now contemplate how the spectacles were made from a new perspective.
