DAY 1 | OPORTO

Oporto is one of the last undiscovered European metropolises. It is an ancient port steeped in history and tradition. It is a highly atmospheric place that has become known for its monuments by renowned architects (Gustave Eiffel's Dona Maria Bridge, Nicolau Nasoni's Clerigos Tower, Rem Koolhaas' Casa da Musica, or Siza Vieira's Serralves Museum). This is the city that originated and named Port Wine, and gave birth to one of world history's legendary figures, Prince Henry the Navigator (you'll also see in new guidebooks that it is also the birthplace of that world-famous fictional character, Harry Potter author J. K. Rowling was living in Oporto as an English teacher when she started writing her first book). These are just a few curious facts about this intriguing and majestic city that you have to visit, see and feel.

DAY 3 | PINHÃO | DOURO | OPORTO

The proposal is a train journey through the magnificent Douro Line, which largely follows the path of its banks of the Douro River, containing the largest expanse of water bordered by railroad in the country. This railway line of great historical importance but especially landscape, began it’s construction in 1875 and was completed in 1887, a colossal work of 23 tunnels and 35 bridges. Throughout the journey the natural landscape is breathtaking, and the passage of small stations and halts is a unique experience. The trip ends at the Pinhão railway station, known for its 24 panels of Portuguese tiles that depict landscapes of the Douro and aspects of the harvest. In shades of blue, the tiles are by J. Oliveira and were ordered to Hallelujah factory, Aveiro in 1937.

DAY 3 | PINHテグ | DOURO | OPORTO On the south bank of the river Douro, in Cima-Corgo, right opposite the Quinta do Porto lies Quinta do Seixo, which provides a breathtaking, stunning view over the river Douro. Owned by Sogrape Vinhos since 1987, in 2007 the company invested approximately 竄ャ7.5 million here in a modern winery, where high quality Portos and Douro DOP wines are produced. An innovative project not only for the state-of-the-art technology used in the cellar, but also for creating a tourist experience that is both educational and attractive! With Quinta do Seixo, Sogrape Vinhos, via the Sandeman brand, seeks to attract more visitors to the Douro and explain a little more about this region and the fantastic wines it produces. Therefore it can offer a tour of the winery, the wine cellar and robotic lagars (automatic wine presses), a visit complemented by multimedia to explain the whole wine production cycle and a Porto tasting (selected vintages) in a room with a spectacular panoramic view of Douro. With about 108 acres in total, production at Quinta do Seixo relies on 71 acres of selected vineyards With about 108 acres in total, production at Quinta do Seixo relies on 71 acres of selected vineyards, planted on terraces and under the vinha ao alto vertical vineyard system. With a predominance of Tinta Roriz and Touriga Nacional, the grapes planted in the Quinta do Seixo are the traditional ones permitted in the region, even in the over 11 hectares that were replanted in 2008. Quinta do Seixo is equipped with a modern winery that receives and vinifies grapes from the Quinta itself, from Quinta da Boavista, Quinta do Porto, Quinta do Caテェdo and Quinta do Vau, namely all the Sogrape Vinhos estates in Cima Corgo and grapes purchased from growers with whom the company has supply contracts.

DAY 4 | OPORTO | COIMBRA | OPORTO The City of Coimbra has its own very special mystique, the result of a past full of important events and of the memories of the many thousands of Portuguese who, dispersed around the country or abroad, remember the carefree, easygoing, hopeful years spent here in their youth as students at the University. As the country’s first capital for 200 years during the reigns of the earliest monarchs, Coimbra's profile was raised by the founding of the University which led to the formation of an urban nucleus full of noteworthy buildings. After 1537 there appeared numerous University colleges, and two areas – next to the Royal Palace in the upper town and in the Rua da Sofia (lower town) – were set aside for learning. In the 18th century Coimbra maintained its academic vocation, which was strengthened by the Marquis of Pombal’s reform of the University. The new buildings resulting from this reform changed the appearance and structure of the university campus, giving new importance to Natural and Experimental Science. The 19th century was a period of considerable growth in population giving rise to new streets and residential areas, in particular the development of the estates belonging to the Sta. Cruz Monastery. The 20th century saw many more great changes to the city with the building of the new university campus which obliged the residents of the upper town to be moved to new residential districts. In the 1990s the city expanded towards Vale das Flores and Boavista, where the University’s second campus (Polo II) was built on the right bank of the River Mondego. Dedicated to Science and Technology, this features buildings by some of the best-known contemporary architects. A third campus (Polo III) dedicated to the Life Sciences has been built near the University Hospitals in the Celas area. COIMBRA’S UNIVERSITY
