A premium award to celebrate Asian success
About AAA 2017 The Asian community has now become an integral part of British life, playing an increasingly important role in shaping its future. Reports say that by 2051, ethnic minorities will make up 20% of UK's population and generate wealth from diverse sources. Media Art & Culture The media, art and culture scene in the UK is more exciting now than it has ever been, thanks to significant investment in infrastructure, education and planning both at the local and national level. Add to this a heady mix of rainbow cultures from across the globe and you have a nation that can lay claim to be the cultural capital of the world . When the Asian community first arrived in the UK it was largely involved in small businesses and perhaps the professions. Involvement in Media Art and Culture was unthinkable largely due to economic reasons. However, since the years of Goodness Gracious Me, and with growing affluence, education and opportunity, British Asian presence in media, art and culture has grown significantly, thanks to the entry of the second and third generation into the mainstream. However what is acutely obvious, and sadly so, is public recognition, despite the abundance of talent and achievement. This year's Asian Achievers Awards has Media Arts & Culture as its theme, and will bring to the limelight the myriad achievements of British Asians in media, art and culture.
Unique judging process The Asian Achievers Awards, which is one of the most esteemed and credible awards in the UK has been a stepping stone for many high achievers in the community. Unlike other ethnic awards, our awards are unique in that a truly independent panel of judges are given complete freedom to prepare a shortlist of candidates and then select the winner in each category. In the initial stages the subscribers of Asian Voice and Gujarat Samachar and the wider community are invited to nominate candidates for various categories thus making making it a truly 'People's Awards'. Every year the request for nominations are widely publicised through radio, television, the internet, print media and at various events. This results not only in a vast number of nominations but also candidates of high calibre. By partnering with us through sponsorship or by booking tables at the gala awards ceremony, you will acknowledge those individuals whose contributions have made the country richer and more vibrant.
Looking Back @ 2016
I
t was a gloomy and rainy Friday, the 16th of September. But nobody could wet the spirit of the 800+ guests who gathered at the prestigious Grosvenor House Hotel in Park Lane London, to celebrate the glamorous 16th Asian Achievers Awards. Celebrities and guests walked down the red carpet, as ushers in fancy attires waited to welcome everybody in.
The success of the night was underlined by the incredible ÂŁ180,000 raised for charity partner Indian Ocean Disaster Relief, which was founded in early 2005 following the devastating tsunami on Boxing Day 2004. In its 16 year, the Asian Achievers Awards has helped raise millions of pounds for various charities that it has supported. The finalists/ winners were selected by a panel of judges, and nominated by the readers of Asian Voice and Gujarat Samamchar. The evening was once again hosted by Eastenders star Nitin Ganatra, who was joined by glamorous Editor of Cosmopolitan UK, Farrah Storr. Over 800 guests, including business tycoons, entrepreneurs, members of parliament and the uniformed services, attended the 16th Asian Achievers Awards. Celebrity guests included cricketing legend and former England captain Mike Gatting, Pakistani film star Armeena Khan, former X-Factor contestant Monica Michael and MOBO Awards Founder, Kanya King MBE. Other guests included businessmen GP Hinduja, Dr Kartar Lalvani, Rami Ranger CBE, Bhanu Choudhrie and Parliamentarians Lord Dolar Popat, Lord Raj Loomba, Seema Malhotra MP, Lord Jitesh Gadhia, to name a few. Leading ethnic media outlets Sunrise Radio and Colors TV were media partners. The Asian Achievers Awards were launched in 2000 by London-based newsweeklies Asian Voice and Gujarat Samachar, which are now in their 45th year and have a significant readership within the UK's Asian community.
