NATURE OBSERVATORY Nürnberg, Germany -

A wooden Tower and Pavilion close to Nature Flu

To provide a beutiful escape from the busy Nürnberg city centre, the Nature Observatory serves as a platform to celebrate the Flora and Flauna of the Bayern State. The location of the Project enables easy access to the wooden structure thats not only hidden in Nature, but stands out due to its unique form. The Structure consists of a Pavilion and Tower, connected by a walkway through Nature. The Pavilion serves as a learning centre to inform people more about the Cities Nature and its value. The Tower serves as Platform to experience Nature first hand. The tower which consists of a walkway that spirals to the top, held together by a wooden framework, displays nature at different angles. The wooden Walkway is meant to facilitate mobility for the handicapped.

The community of “Sachsen bei Ansbach” is a small town characterized by a constantly growing and diverse number of residents. Due to its outstanding history, in which the town was a reception point for refugees after the Second World War, the town is characterized by its open nature. The House of the Farmer’s Wife served as a common meeting place and a place of gathering for the residents and newcomers. The increasing number of residents presented the community with a great challenge to create living space in a short period of time. Community and communication areas are not sufficient for the diverse residents.Sachsen bei Ansbach offers heutzurtage many advantages and is gaining more and more popularity. The proximity to the metropolis of Nuremberg, the still existing old town center and the closeness to nature ensure that more and more people decide to move to Saxony. The design task therefore requires a suitable urban design that manages to integrate newcomers into the existing urban structure. Opportunities for exchange and communication should be created. Urban structures are required that promote this and manage to offer enough people a pleasant home.

The design responds to the surrounding area by orienting the new buildings to the existing buildings. The Iggraben is mostly surrounded by single-family houses, which are arranged along a meandering street. The buildings in the design pick up on this slope, which runs parallel to the contour lines.

Sachsen bei Ansbachs Church Tower is of great importance for the residents. As a defining city feature, it is seen by many as an identification of the old city and the town. Sachsens church and its Tower immediately catch the eye due to its elevated position. Not only for locals, but also for new residents the tower is said to hold important symbolism. With a clearly pronounced visual axis, the Tower is always in the eye of the beholder.

Accessibilty

The design is characterized by its development courtyards, in which the associated buildings can be accessed from the north and south. The courtyard forms a place of exchange and community. It contains seating, playgrounds, greenhouses and outdoor kitchens, which can be used by the 1:200 residents of the neighborhood.

Courtyard Fassade material Wooden Louvers The design of the facades is based on the accessability to the courtyards and their use. Facades facing the courtyard are clad with wood .The purpose of the wooden slat cladding is to harmonize with the green surroundings.

Outside Fassade Material Besenputz Facades that do not face the Courtyard are plastered. They are in line with the neighboring buildings and the cityscape of Sachsen, which is characterized by plaster facades. In this case, the broom rendering matches the lamellation of the wooden facade and serves as a balance to the conspicuous wooden facade. The aim is not to emphasize the buildings of the new development, rather enable a visual coherence.

SCUTOIDS (A PARAMETRIC TOWER) SUBJECT : FORM AND REPRESENTATION YEAR : 2020-2021

SCUTOIDS

(A parametric tower) A Scutoid is a geometric solid between two parallel surfaces. Given the characteristics of the scutoid to closely stack together, forming compact and stable combinations of similar shaped objects, it was very interesting to investigate the different capabilities of the form in the parametric world, using Grasshopper for Rhino: In this experiment, 2 variations of the scutoid were used , one being hollow , forming an architectural space within, and the other being Lattice-like, acting as the support system for the Combinations to be formed .

Formation

M The different planer surfaces of the Scutoid are separated and then identified using different colours. This surfaces are then used as connection surfaces ,with which various combinations are formed with help of the Wasp plugin for Grasshopper in Rhino

Different combinations are then tested out , until the most optimal aggregation with vertical growth is found. Vertical aggregation was being looked for because the aim was to form a tower

Portfolio 18

m Modules The Scutoids are then separated according to function , the access modules that spiral around the tower contain all staircases and elevators of the structure, enabling access around the tower. The residential modules provide living spaces for the people that live in the tower

-The sides and bottom surfaces are joined together connected so that horizontal and vertical aggregation occurs.

6:Extracting the Support-Modul The Support-Modul is then extracted from the “Host-Modul”using the name that was assigned to it.

WOHNEN PLUS SUBJECT : DESIGN YEAR : 2021

WOHNEN PLUS Nürnberg, Germany The shape of this building evolves from an original concept of first dividing the site into 3 polygonal volumes, which are then extruded into towers. These towers are then separated from each other, taking into account the axis of the Neudörfer street and the Goldbach stream. This creates a space in the center that will later serve not only as a courtyard, but also opens up to the north and functions as a connection to the Wöhrder park. As a connecting element for the residential units, we have created 3 walkways , which are located on the first, second and third floors. These not only connect the three floors, but also create meeting areas between the towers. The east and south facades of our design are deliberately minimalistic with bay windows, in order to appear phlegmatically like a shell,so that when you walk through the entrance into the inner courtyard, which is more open to the outside and to nature, you can feel a transition from one world to another . The concept of the “ Opening Courtyard” is also emphasized by the gradation of the floors of the residential blocks.

The open use is reflected in the first floor of the building , which is a Candle store. The Candlestore is designed as a place , where different people from different backgrounds and generations can come together and creatively learn from each other. The “Wohnen Plus”also offers space where the produced candles can be later on sold.
