The following text began as an exercise in cartography and historical survelliance within the author's process of creative research. It's a rather ludic work that attempts to understand theory at a practical level and vice-versa, complex processes that straddle reason and intuition.
The text is divided in two chapters, that in themselves encompass a variety of sculputural projects:
Sculptural Tradition: Works as a historical frame and as a starting point for studying sculpture, including some notions belonging to Russian Constructivism, like the social and political implications of materials and the function of art in the process of construction of a new society. Detecting recurring and contradictory elements in the work of two artists -Vladimir Tatlin (1885-1953) and Jorge de Oteiza (1908-2003)- gives way to a series of pieces made from carpets and bath soaps, as well as two projects for public spaces that are meant to reflect on the shape and materiality of sculpture.
