Hold Do Not Destroy is a bi-annual publication showcasing the beauty of the modern Australian male; the talents of local photographers, hair and make-up artists and designers. With a focus on youth and culture, HDND presents an artistic expression of the stylish, passionate and captivating qualities behind the contemporary male in Australia. Each issue of Hold Do Not Destroy illustrates a different theme, combining sophisticated menswear with the striking male body and stunning landscapes, to produce both authentic and aesthetic photography.
E D I T O R I A L I’LL TAKE NEW YORK We’re live from New York City for our first special edition of Hold Do Not Destroy. Our photographers have hit the streets of NYC to transfer some quintessentially American cityscapes and sidewalks to our far-flung shores. Of course, they’ve managed to bring a few All-American boys with them too. Starting out on the streets of suburbia, film-maker Johan shows us his cinematic qualities. The war m tones, and earthy, cobblestone roads are a gorgeous contrast to his angular, leading-man features. Changing things up are our talented Dancers of New York, who take us on a journey through the city, and produce some stunning poses along the way. These guys have incredible grace that snapshots per fectly with the monolithic might of this iconic city. Brisbane’s Züberich helps Tyler look his best with a fantastic ‘goo’ shirt, and Tattly from Brooklyn gives us tattoo tributes to pizza and Lady Liberty: Australia and America, a match made in heaven. J is classically stylish in button-ups and stripes; his gestures are so soft and gentle, and film gives his skin a rich, painterly quality. JP wears Zuberich’s finest while atop a skyscraper—it doesn’t get much more New York metropolitan than that. We love how expressive he is; he can go from calm to brooding in no time. Finally, our curator, Abraham shows us his truly East Coast fashion sense while on his trip-of-a-lifetime. We’ll see you all in a New York minute for HDND’s next release: Fearless. For a lot of people, New York is the city of dreams. If you have the desire to do something, the opportunity is right in front of you. I have been to many cities around the world, and New York is unlike any other: it really is the place where anything can happen. This issue of Hold Do Not Destroy was a special edition, inspired by this wonder ful city that I experienced in September this year. I had the opportunity to include some great American talent, and although HDND does aim to spotlight Australian talent, I thought a special edition was a great chance to blend the styles of our two great countries. I feel we’ve done that per fectly. Many thanks to Amy Carkeek and Martin Smith who organised the QCA trip to the USA. Their tireless efforts and countless connections provided me with so many learning opportunities and priceless advice. Dancers of New York featured some amazingly talented people, so a huge thank you to them for giving me their best. Without their incredible talent and patience, I would not have been able to produce such stunning images. Thank you as always to my contributors, without whom I wouldn’t have a magazine. Your pictures capture the spirit of male youth culture per fectly, and always make this such a unique and special publication. May we always follow our dreams, and our inspirations, to achieve better than the best. See you next issue! Abraham de Souza Curator and Editor of Hold Do Not Destroy
