RED as a color, red is said to incite a faster heartbeat and induce rapid breathing. it’s the reaction we get when we spy, say, the perfect shade of lipstick. it comes in a crayon box of hues, and the shade we choose—time and again—is that perfect orangey-red. it’s a summer tomato on the vine, handpicked and mashed into a spicy bloody mary. it’s a pair of come-hither heels that instantly channels that song by the cure, “hot hot hot!!!” it’s powerful in its magnetism, luring even the most color-shy to give it a try with a lunchtime manicure or a chic leather handbag (both make for a colorfully pleasing pop).

our favorite bloody mary, courtesy of the mermaid inn  1 oz smirnoff no. 21 vodka 3 ozs tomato juice 2 ozs red hot sauce 2 ozs green hot sauce 1 dash worcestershire sauce ½ oz lemon juice 1 pinch salt 1 pinch pepper 1 stalk celery  combine your ingredients and set the celery aside. mix back and forth between two glasses. strain into an ice-filled highball. garnish with the celery stalk and enjoy.
