CONCEPT
After a long and stressful working day one needs a compensation for daily routine. Otherwise unhappiness and loneliness can dominate life. The solution: InBalance. Eight luxurious flats with private roof gardens and a spacious communal area combine everything what it takes to relax and unwind after a long day. To balance body and soul the InBalance concept offers different opportunities for everybody, ranging from calm relaxation in the spa area, joint activities such as cooking to sports activities in the large fitness area. Living in the InBalance house means to discover all facets of life - whether appreciating company or seeking private refuge.

TRADING UP STUTTGART-STAMMHEIM
PROJECT: RETAIL LOCATION: STUTTGART, GERMANY
GENERAL CONCEPT My concept for the FreihofstraĂ&#x;e is to expand the interior of the stores to the outside. The presentation area of the stores increases because it is not only restricted to the inside but rather extends to the pavement. The interior becomes a public space, and the boundaries between interior and exterior vanish. The shops open themselves to the clients and excite them to enter. The complete FreihofstraĂ&#x;e shall obtain a new image via a flexible but also uniform design. The shopping street shall be experienced as a dynamic place.
INDIVIDUAL CONCEPT The various stores are provided with a modular system. Horizontal guide rails of steel are attached to the existing walls. Rolls with ball bearings are used to move differently large ca- GENERAL CONCEPT binets and shelves according to requirements. Another part of the system are coloured backgrounds that can be easily positioned as well. By means of this system, every store gets the possibility of a flexible presentation of goods that can be redesigned spontaneously. Furthermore the presentation can be continued after closing time because the cabinets may be moved to the exterior of the store.

NIVEAA TEMPORARY ISLAND BAR PROJECT: COMMERCIAL LOCATION: GERMANY
To support the image of NIVEA, my idea is to design a floating island which can be visited in the daytime. The island shall communicate NIVEA‘s spirit of naturalness, freedom, airiness and activity. The island is, inspired by the popular NIVEA tin, designed as a circle. The bar forms its core. Around the bar, visitors can relax on large sofas and listen to smooth lounge music while having refreshing fruit drinks. The lively area is placed in the outer circle, a double stage wooden platform which leads directly to the water. Here one can find various hanging seats, areas for sunbathing and, of course, the special feature of the island: the NIVEA lotion shower.

PROJECT: GAZEBO LOCATION: DUSSELDORF, GERMANY
A TEMPORARY GAZEBO
The task of this experimental workshop was to build a temporary and low-priced shelter for the new courtyard of the Peter Behrens School of Architecture. Squared timber, being left over from a previous project, was used to minimise costs. At the beginning of the project, it seemed challenging to design a remarkable shape with lumbers of a length of 5 m and a cross-section of 8x8 cm². During the design phase, the students discovered that even complex geometries could be realised with the long orthogonal lumbers. Two gazebos were planned, both consisting of 13 individual frames, each with a distance of 8 cm to its neighbours. Every frame does not only respond to the existing landscape but twists about its horizontal axis by three degrees. Caused by these nearly negligible rotations, every edge length is unique, which in turn leads to an astonishing appearance.

TacTile is a versatile module which is based upon the elementary form of an equilateral hexagon. In contrast to a conventional wall covering TacTile does not only stretch across its length and width but also across its height. The basic shape is divided into six different parts which converge at one point. TacTile is available in three different heights: 5, 7.5 and 10 cm. As TacTile is based upon an equilateral hexagon, it can be rotated and combined arbitrarily. Each composition of TacTiles with different orientations and heights leads to a new spatial impression comprising exciting displays of light and shadow.

MULTI-USE PROJECT: ADAPTIVE REUSE LOCATION: DUSSELDORF, GERMANY
CONCEPT The aim of this project is the reanimation of the wholesale market in Dusseldorf and to make it available to the public for special events. To achieve this, a flexible and powerful architecture is combined with the existing structure of one of the market halls.
TARGET GROUPS
There are two major target groups whose needs have to be satisfied. On the one hand, ordinary visitors expect an opportunity for amusement. On the other hand, the market‘s employees must be able to work without distraction. The architecture has to reflect these contrary requirements.
ARCHITECTURE
A flexible architecture appearing when required and disappearing otherwise is attached to one of the market halls. Inside the existing floor an infrastructure is created with features for various occasions. Large platforms sized according to the column grid of the hall can be adjusted to arbitrary heights. To reach the platforms, telescopic stairs are used which can be stored inside the corpus of each platform. Beside these installations there is additional flexible equipment available. These are, for example, techniques for light and sound (movable via racks on the ceiling) and furniture like chairs and tables (kept in one of the existing storages). Furthermore the room can be divided by curtains and foldable partitions which are dragged along with the flexible platforms. An exceptionally dense room covering a variety of situations can be created at the push of a button.

PROJECT: LIGHT PLANNING LOCATION: DUSSELDORF, GERMANY
FOR A PARK
CONCEPT SAFETY AND COMORT Planning the lighting design for a park is fundamentally different from that for an interior. The park in its present form is almost unlighted. The park area could be used for certain sports activities in the evenings. This is, however, dangerous due to the missing illumination. During daytime the park ist a venue for young and old; in the evening hours the lack of light causes insecurity and bad amenity values. The main goal of the project is to illuminate the park in such a way that visitors feel safe and secure. The pedestrians shall be able to experience their environment via clearly visible spatial boundaries, enlighted vegetation in the background and the right kind of luminous colour and intensity. ADVENTURE AND ATTENTION Beside a relatively functional lighting, the focus is on setting different courses. These shall deviate from the standard via different structures and colours to attract the visitor‘s attention. The two squares are illuminated in two specific ways: one focuses on enlighting the trees, the other on illuminating the water. Both squares are presented in detail on the next pages.
