C
hichester is the only city in West Sussex and is its county town. Known to be one of the great well-preserved Georgian cities in the UK, it was however founded by the Romans in 43 AD. The Roman Chichester was built on a grid pattern. The main streets still remain. It was also an important location in Anglo-Saxon times. Presently, Chichester is still thriving with culture and amenities; welcoming with museums, sights and landmarks. Chichester Cathedral is a magnificent architectural building that has been a prominent focal point of the city for over 900 years. The City Centre with it’s historic walls and Chichester’s Market

Cross is home to a great selection of shops and restaurants. One of the most renown places in the Chichester District is Goodwood, England’s finnest sporting estate hosting three of the largest events in the social and sporting calendar: the Qatar Goodwood Festival, The Goodwood Revival and the Festival of Speed. The Qatar Goodwood Festival known as ‘Glorious Goodwood’, is the sporting and social highlight of the flat-racing season. The Goodwood Revival is a unique three day event of vintage fashion and motor racing. The Goodwood Festival of Speed is an outstanding motor racing event held in the grounds of Goodwood House, which covers an impressive estate over 4,900 hectares and is the seat of the Duke of Richmond.

horeham-by-Sea, Lancing and Worthing are situated in the Adur district of West Sussex. All three boast beautiful sea views and local attractions with much to offer. Shoreham-by-Sea is a historic seaside town west of Hove, located at the mouth of the picturesque River Adur. On the end of Shoreham Beach, lies Shoreham Fort, a defensive structure built in 1857 to protect against Napoleon III. Shoreham Harbour Lifeboat Station is another landmark worth a visit, where you can meet the crew, and see the lifeboats in action.

Ropetackle Arts Centre hosts many known artists and performers. On route to Worthing, lies Lancing, home of the Brighton & Hove Albion football training ground, and a known sports destination for go-karting, kite surfing, sailing and paddlebparding. Brighton City Airport, in Lancing, offers flying lessons, sight-seeing and pleasure flights. The beautiuful Art Deco building is it’s best kept secret. Worthing is stunning seaside town with a historical Grade II listed Art Deco pier. Located along a relaxing beach and long promenade, it offers a variety of attractions including theatres, cinemas, shopping, galleries and eateries.

H
orsham is a lovely historic market town in West Sussex. Located less than an hour away from London, the town and the area offers a perfect blend of traditional English beauty with a modern twist. It’s stunning surrounding landscapes and scenic parklands never fail to amaze. Leonardslee Lakes & Gardens is a Grade I listed garden delight, with divine flora and fauna set around a Grade II 19th century Mansion House serving quality food and cream teas.

Horsham is a lovely picturesque town to explore on foot with its charming and quirky side streets. Eclectic cafes serve delicious light snacks and local produce, and the traditional English pubs often serve craft beers brewed in Sussex. In fact Horsham is known for its brewing heritage. Furthermore, Horsham is also home to some delightful restaraunts and eateries. From numerous vegetarian and vegan bistros to a Michelin star gem. E
astbourne is a beautiful seaside resort on the South Coast of East Sussex. This traditional holiday town is known for its overreaching South Downs landscapes, infinite boulevards and dominant chalk sea cliffs. Eastbourne is a fast developing town, but the visitors are still attracted to its unspoilt seafront and eye-catching Victorian and Edwardian architecture. One of the finest Victorian landmarks is the Eastbourne Pier opened in 1872. Often used as a film and TV location, the pier impresses with an open deck and an entertainment area for visitors, such as The Victorian Tea Rooms, The Chippy and the 1901 Jazz Lounge. Another known attraction is

The Eastbourne Bandstand. Built in 1935, this listed building features a unique semi-circular design with a striking blue domed roof. A
rundel is a picturesque town situated on the River Arun in West Sussex. Famous for the magnificent castle, be sure to take a visit. The history of Arundel Castle spans nearly a thousand years with Roman and Saxon influences. The majestic gothic architecture and breathtaking gardens attract thousands of tourists every year. Founded at the end of the 11th Century it is the family home of the Dukes of Norfolk. This ancient castle is set grandly high on a hill spanning incredible views of the surrounding views of the South Downs. Arundel Cathedral is another landmark of astounding beauty. Set on the crown of the hill it dominates the skyline of Arundel

along with the castle. The town has indeed a rich historic and cultural heritage. The annual Arundel Festival of the Arts which runs in August incorporates a real variety from street and music performances, food & drink events to the famous Gallery Trail. Naturally, there is more to this quaint town. Arundel Farmers Market has a superb reputation with an excellent range of high quality local produce. On the 3rd Saturday of every month, local growers, bakers, butchers and florists gather to sell their produce directly to the customers. Arundel is also known for local cricket, fishing and boating. n the borders of East Sussex, Kent and Surrey, welcome to the High Weald. A medieval landscape of mysterious ancient woodlands, rolling hills, scattered farmstead and ancient route-ways. The word ‘Weald’ comes from the German ‘Wald’ meaning an uncultivated forest. Known as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, designated by Government as a family of protected landscapes, this is one of the best surviving medieval landscapes in Northern Europe. The attractions include medieval castles, beautiful historic houses and gardens, well-preserved steam railways and scenic reservoirs. The woodland area conceals

over 30 manor houses, castles and beautiful parks and gardens; some managed by the National Trust. There are attractions aplenty. Take a boat trip from Newenden to Bodiam Castle along the River Rother or tour a vineyard. You can develop woodcraft and bushcraft skills, learn to bake bread or forage for mushrooms. Enjoy friendly country pubs in beautiful villages or cream teas and artisan foods in family owned farms. High Weald is a stunning area with scenic walk routes and historical landmarks. Visit Royal Tunbridge Wells, Hertsmonceux Castle and The Observatory Science Centre. outh Downs National Park, on the fringe of Brighton & Hove, is wildly appreciated for its unspoiled beauty. Wonderous coast, stunning wildlife and a remarkable history, some of the finest countryside between Winchester, the first capital of England, and the white chalk cliffs of Eastbourne. The South Downs are designated as a national park recognised for its walking and cycling opportunities, excursions and outdoor activities. For the curious, an average time to complete the whole route of the South Downs Way stretching over 1,600km2 would take a casual cyclist circa 4 days, and it would take about a week to walk the whole route. The South Downs National Park offers a variety of outdoor activities, from paddle-boarding

and kayaking to paragliding. The Park is also home to some of the best trail running in southern England. The Beachy Head marathon goes over over a 42 mile course. You’ll be sure to find thrill and adventure in the South Downs. Airsports including paragliding and hang gliding are very popular with adrenaline enthusiasts. The Park amazes with its archaeological sites from Bronze and Iron Age to medieval ruins. More can be explored at the Weald and Downland Open Air Museum showcasing 50 perfectly preserved historic buildings, spanning over 950 years. Shopping in the North Laines, Brighton We all know that Brighton has a lot to boast about; a beautiful and buzzing seafront, an action-packed pier, an endless array of indie cafes and restaurants and an incredible and varied nightlife scene. Brighton has, however, one very well kept secret that captures the very essence of our Bohemian town; The North Laine. A shopping mecca for in-the-know Brightonians, this maze of over 400 colourful, wonderful and often weird independent shops keeps its visitors busy for hours as they wander through treasure troves stocking goodies that you just simply don’t find in the large chain stores. The name of this riot of retail dates back to Saxon times when ‘laine’ was a word used to describe the large arable fields that lay in Brighton. In this case, the laine in question consisted of five separate farming plots which themselves were split into smaller sections of land. It is the access tracks between each section that actually make up what is now the North Laine. The North Laine is so easy to find when you know where to look! As you arrive at Brighton station, instead of heading straight forward down the road well-trodden, swing a left and you are smack bang in alternative shopping heaven. www.northlaine.co.uk
Rampion Wind Farm Tour Brighton As you journey along the Sussex coast, you won’t fail to spot the battalion of wind turbines, standing proudly out to see. Such is the demand that Ross Boat Trips now offer 120 minutes sightseeing trips to the new Rampion Wind Farm array aboard Catamarans “Adept” (formally a wind farm transfer vessel) and “Voyager”. The 116 turbines are more than 8 miles off shore from Brighton and it takes about 45 minutes to get there. One of Brighton’s newest offerings, the Urchin craft beer and shellfish pub is a wholly unique concept. Entirely dedicated to shellfish, matched with a range of over 100 craft beers The Urchin is something Brighton and Hove has never seen before. Seats 30 covers in the restaurant, the menu predominantly features prawns, lobster, crab and scallops.
The Bali Brasserie is proud to present vegan, vegetarian and dairy free dining as well as gluten free. The restaurant inside, ‘Rijsttafe’, (the rice table) is Indonesian themed food on a set menu, but they are able to adapt a meal to almost any dietary requirements. Meaning there is no reason to not go and enjoy yourself. There is something for everyone at The Bali Brasserie.

The Fountain Inn, Ashurst Beautiful olde worlde inn in the sleepy village of Ashurst. A free house and ‘Cask Marque’ accredited, the Fountain has plenty of local ales on offer as well as the more recognised international beers and lagers. Lion & Lobster If you are looking for a good, old fashioned, comfy pub with a great atmosphere then this is the place for you. The Lion and Lobster is very popular with the locals and has become a bit of a Brighton institution. It is a good venue to start your night before going out on the town. The pub is spread over three floors with a main bar downstairs complete with cosy real fires in winter. The second floor has a small bar within a beautiful dining room and the third floor is the outside smoker’s area complete with mini bar and outside heaters. The Sunday roasts are very popular but make sure you get there early.

The Crown and Anchor Shoreham-by-Sea:

This lovely pub has been open since 1882, making it the oldest pub on the seafront. It is a good meeting place if you are going clubbing on the seafront. There are DJs playing at the weekends and it always has a friendly atmosphere and is never too crowded. The dĂŠcor has a maritime theme and the pub provides beautiful views over the seafront. It has an outside seating area and a buzzy atmosphere during the summer months.

The Dead Parrot boasts a fantastic menu of unique and eccentric cocktail as well as some classics, well as a fine selection of beers and delicious wines. Split over two floors with cool and quirky décor featuring some interesting taxidermy and a giant chessboard on the ceiling! An unashamedly hipster joint serving cocktails in all manner of vessels from beer cans with sombrero hats, to metal tankards and even the odd dainty glass. Lots of fun!
