Greetings from the Barber Academy
These are exciting times for the Barber Academy! Classes in the Fall session will include return to the Barber Academy at full capacity. This will expedite the graduation date for the future Barbers in WNC. For centuries Barbers have been the masters of hair. Here at the Barber Academy we embrace that tradition and look to move it forward. The opportunities for Barbers are extensive. Everyone, male or female, for work or play, needs their hair designed in order for them to have a happy and healthy relationship with their hair. At the Barber Academy we offer all the tools you will need to have a very successful career. No matter what your dreams are or where you want to make your professional mark.
The Barber Academy curriculum prepares the student for a successful career as a professional Barber. Graduates of this program will be prepared for and eligible to take the State Board examination which consists of a written and a practical exam. These examinations are given by the North Carolina State Board of Barber Examiners (NCBBE) and, upon passing, the student will receive an Apprentice Barber license. Students attend the Barber Academy for 1528 clock hours. During that time lectures, demonstrations, and hands-on experience are provided on the subjects of shaving, haircutting, implements, chemistry, anatomy, chemical hair products, and business classes. The Barber Academy is in the Birch Building on A-B Tech’s Asheville campus. It is adjacent to the cosmetology program’s Cosmetology salon and classrooms, but the programs are not affiliated.
