Greetings from the Barber Academy

Did you know, starting around 296 A.D., that the first shave on a young Roman’s twenty-second birthday constituted a Rite of Passage from boyhood to manhood, and was celebrated with great festivity? The Barbering Program embraces our history, going back 6,000 years, and honors the dedication of men like Ticinius Mena, who brought the art of shaving from Sicily to Rome. The question is: Are you willing to carry on the tradition of Barbering?

The Barber Academy curriculum prepares the student for a successful career as a professional Barber. The curriculum consists of lectures, demonstrations, and hands-on experience. Subjects of instruction include, but not limited to shaving, haircutting, implements, geometry, chemistry, anatomy, chemical hair products, and business classes.

The Barbering Program is licensed by the North Carolina Board of Barber Examiners (NCBBE) and adheres to the requirements necessary to prepare students to apply for and take the Apprentice examination given by the NCBBE, which consists of a written and a practical exam. The barbering program is a minimum of 1528 clock hours which includes lectures, demonstrations, and hands on practice.
