Washit Shower Cabinet and Washing Machine Concept 3rd Year Project September - October 2011

PROJECT AIM Designing a “Home Hero” that will make our everyday life better.

We have routines. And there are “Heroes” that helps us doing our routine work much more easily.

FINDINGS

Water is everything. But we use excessive amount of water in our bathrooms.

We use approximately 100 liters of water for a 10 minute shower.

And 38 liters of water for washing our clothes in piles, which is an exhausting activity.

What if we were able to use the same water for those two activities?

DETAILING

While user is having a shower, Washit gathers graywater from shower cabinet to the water storage via filters. So all the water in storage is cleaned and ready to be used again either for showering and washing clothes.

After the shower, user can take back his washed clothes or leave them there for Washit to dry. Washit refills itself from water main in case of water loss.

Opening at the ceiling enables steam to go out.

BreadBx Electrical Bread Box That Vacuums The Air Inside 4th Year Project November 2012 - January 2013

PROJECT AIM Designing a small electrical kitchen appliance, considering local values and experience design.

There are wide range of appliances, assisting people prepare, cook and store food.

RESEARCH Research on changing lifestyle and food trends in 5-10 years time.

FINDINGS

NEVER WASTE BREAD!

BREAD BOXES ARE USELESS!

In Turkish culture, bread is sacred.

People put the breads in bread basket with plastic bags, in order to prevent staling.

IDEATION

From this point, I decided to change my approach of freezing the bread. I focused on a better way to keep bread fresh in short term, which is vacuuming the bread box.

FINAL CONCEPT

User can activate and release the vacuum by just pushing one button.

Vacuum is done with the help of a small electrical vacuum engine.

Quik Electrical Teamaker and Serving Set for Singular/Double Use. 3rd Year Project February - May 2012

PROJECT AIM Designing an electrical teamaker and its serving set while incorporating local values and decreasing resource consumption.

We have a tea culture. Turkish tea culture and tradition has deep roots.

Green Dustpan & Broom Set Used With Waste Plastic Bags 2nd Year Project December 2010 - January 2011

Exhibited in:


PROJECT AIM Designing and prototyping a dustpan-broom set for a specialized target group.

Dustpan&Broom sets seems to be designed for domestic usage at first sight.

WHAT ABOUT INDUSTRIAL USAGE?

SUBWAY CLEANERS

Street cleaners use relatively bigger dustpan&broom sets.

Subways need to be cleaned a lot with special dustpan&broom sets, rather than domestic ones.

Ordinary Dustpans:

Plastic Bags

- Little trash carrying capacity

- Used in excessive amounts worldwide.

- Hard to empty without spilling the trashes

- Rarely recycled

- Need to carry a plastic bag with the dustpan.

Cube Raki Glass Package 1st Year Project March 2010

PROJECT AIM Designing an innovative, easy to manufacture, cheap and attractive package for two raki glasses.

Raki is a traditional Turkish alcoholic bavarage. Raki glass is traditionally shaped like a slightly tapered cylinder.

IDEATION Putting one glass vertical and the other horizontal enables a funky and attractive package.

Corrugated board is the most common material in packaging industry. It is suitable for packaging raki glasses.


FINAL CONCEPT Graphic design empowers the concept, encouriging user to buy two pairs instead of one.

Wing 3 Person Tent With a Significant Ventilation System 2nd Year Project June 2011

PROJECT AIM Designing a 3 person tent and building a 1/1 scale working prototype with the real materials.

Waterproof fabric is a must use item.

IDEATION Working with mock-ups is essential in order to simulate stresses on the structure.

FINAL CONCEPT

A special ventilation part - Users can easily open this unit when they need fresh air and close it on rainy weathers. - Wing is controlled from the inside of the tent easily.

PROTOTYPING Building a 1/1 scale prototype with the real materials. After the process, the tent was waterproof and ready to camp in!

Metaphys is a brand, created by Hers Experimental Design Laboratory (Osaka, Japan), lead by Chiaki Murata. Murata and his design team gives design consultancy service to the companies like Microsoft, Nikon, Canon, Sharp etc. and also designs, produces and sells their own products under the brand Metaphys.

SOCIAL DESIGN My personal concept at Metaphys. Sink concept for places which do not have plumbing system.

Problem Description

A foot pump is used to pump the water to the water tank inside.

User can fill the water tank from the water source and carry it easily to the sink.
