Must know information to provide or address in your School Newsletter: 1. Specific outline and explanation of content area curriculum and assessments. 2. The expected achievement level for students per grade level. 3. How to keep students focused each quarter and educational resources ex: websites, blogs, apps. 4. Homework expectations and ways for parents to help give specific strategies. 5. Give parents a list of dates and times for school workshops, literacy nights, math nights, AP class meetings, etc‌ 6. Give parents the information (log in password or who to contact for it) for parent portal websites and teacher websites so they can track student progress. 7. Ways to discuss schoolwork with students at home. 8. Remind parents the importance of reading at home. Ensure all students are reading independently at home. 9. Discuss when there will be a literacy night at your school or offer book suggestions, titles, and appropriate websites. 10. Provide the where and when students can get guidance on course selections and specific school programs such as ROTC. 11. Call parents to action that are very involved - in communicating to neighbors and parents of friends who are less involved to solicit their ideas and provide that feedback to the school. 12. Give a list or directory of community resources that parents and students can utilize such as local: Community Mental Health Services, Developmental Evaluation Centers, Hospitals, Medical Services, Advocacy, Food/Clothing/Goods/Services, Grief, Addiction Services, Parenting Support, Women’s Health, Employment Services.
