Physics Help for Effective Learning Physics is one of the science subjects included in the high school curriculum. Like Mathematics, it is one of the subjects that many high school students are afraid of. They find it difficult to understand concepts, theories, and laws used in the study of physics. Most teachers find teaching this subject a great challenge to their teaching acumen. Some teachers become frustrated as they fail to draw out students’ interest and lead them to participate actively in class. But there are a few teachers who have the gift to make things easy and simple for their students and they always succeed I making their students comprehend physics. Here are some pointers on how to motivate your students to enjoy their physics lessons. 1. Develop your students’ awareness of things around them that use some physics principles. The appliances at their home, the electricity that makes these appliances work, the vehicles that they ride, the water that comes out of their faucet – there is an endless list of things that are related to physics. Once they can connect physics with these things, they will be interested to know how physics relate to these things. 2. Let your students experience what they are learning. Studying physics involves laws that can easily be observed and proven. Let your students make actual observations and conduct experiments in their physics class. They will discover how simple a principle or law is when applied than when discussed orally. Science is better learned by doing; not by reading or memorizing. 3. Allow your students to use concrete objects to demonstrate physics laws and principles. Let them make replicas of the different machines as their projects. They can discuss the principle used in making their projects to deepen their understanding of the laws of physics. 4. As much as possible, avoid being bookish especially when giving examples to the class. Instead, use real life situations to illustrate your point. Quoting the scientists is good but students will find it hard to connect people and things that existed many years ago to their own lives now. 5. Spend time demonstrating to the students how to solve word problems in physics efficiently. Some teachers just give the students the formula and tell them to use them in solving physics problems. There must be a systematic procedure in solving these problems and this is what students must learn. Teach them to follow the steps in find the answer. This will help them to solve any kinds of problems in their future lessons. 6. Make your physics class fun and interesting. Develop games that use application of physics principles and laws and give time to your students to play. Students want to do things that give them enjoyment and thrill and a few games will be a great help in motivating them to learn. 7. If you have students who cannot catch up with the lessons, you can recommend to the parents to find a tutor for their child. If the parents cannot afford a tutor, assist the student to find a free online tutorial center that offers high school physics online. Today, even the most difficult subjects are offered by online tutorial centers. The instructors are all highly qualified and they are experts in online instruction. Through their help, the student cab helped to perform better.
