BA The Accademia di Costume e di Moda has experience of a long tradition within the training and education in Costume and Fashion Fields, qualifying itself as an excellent learning centre thanks to its educational offer. Among our students there are Entrepreneurs, Creative Directors, Head and Senior Designers of the Fashion System and Costume designers (Academy Award winner, Donatello Prize Winners...) for important national and international productions (film industry, theatre, entertainment, cirque du soleil etc.). The first level Academic Diploma in Costume and Fashion is the only diploma in Italy that proceeds equally in Fashion and Costume within the same educational path.

The Academic Diploma aims to train professional figures capable of meeting the needs of companies in both in the fashion industry and costume design for theatre, tv and cinema productions: research, design, planning and product. The structure of the educational path promotes continuous interaction between specific techniques and skills in the fields of Fashion and Costume, guaranteeing the student an adequate education in culture, style and design within the areas of Costume, Fashion and Accessory. The course provides students with a complete education program which enables them to obtain a good standard of professional competence and technical knowledge.

To be admitted at the first level of the Academic Diploma Course is required a Secondary High School Degree or of an equivalent degree, if achieved abroad. The course lasts three Academic years and attendance is mandatory from Monday to Friday (to be accepted at the final exams the student must have attended at least 80% of the total amount of the educational activities planned for each Academic year). The educational path is organized and split into main topics and exams which have to be held in three main exam sessions (June/July; September/October and February). The course ends with the discussion of a final dissertation at the end of the third and last Academic year. The educational path is developed as follows:

The Fashion Final Work consists in a collection created by each student, chosen by a commission of experts from the Fashion world. These collections are presented during Rome’s Couture Fashion Week - ALTAMODALTAROMA.

The Costume Final Work consists in preparation and presentation of a real Theatre Show thanks also to the collaboration of external important professionals and to the Lecturers of the Accademia. The Costumes designed by our students are worn by the actors during the theatre show.

At the end of the three years programme the Placement Office of the “Accademia di Costume e di Moda”, through a cooperation activity, offers the main industries within the Fashion and Costume design system the chance to contact the students and either start a training process with them or to contact them for eventual job openings. In this way the Accademia offers its students the chance of a concrete professional experience. There is in fact a real collaboration between the Accademia and the Costume and Fashion Industry, many of the main professional figures within the Fashion and Costume Industry are often alumni of the Accademia, who contact the Accademia to look for new young and creative talents. Only a few of the many contests our students participate in. Every year the young designers during their third academic year and after completing the Diploma position their collections as finalists and/or winners in many contests (RMI 2011, 2012, 2013 – Mittlemoda 2011, 2013 - REMIX 2012, 2013 - VOGUE TALENTS 2012, 2013). The Accademia has also been selected last July (2013) and confirmed this year (2014) to participate together with the most important fashion schools of the world to the International Competition of the Graduate Fashion Week, in London.
