CARTIER BOUTIQUE

artier is excited to announce the expansion of its Americana Manhasset boutique to more than double its previous size. Opened on January 15th with an increase from 1,100 to 2,600 square feet, the new boutique accommodates a much wider variety of pieces from Cartier collections such as Bridal, Home and the Accessories Salon. The expansion also allows the Cartier boutique to service VIP clients in a new private viewing room. Most exciting is the introduction of the new Juste un Clou collection. The radically minimalist bracelet collection for both men and women takes a simple everyday object and transforms it into a work of beauty via the jeweler’s craft. First conceived by Aldo Cipullo for Cartier New York in the 1970s, and echoing

the festive wildness that sprung up around the iconic Studio 54, Juste un Clou comes in yellow, white or pink gold, natural or paved with diamonds, and in large and small sizes. Of course the Cartier boutique continues to offer extraordinary, one-of-akind designs as well as other signature jewelry collections, including Trinity, Panthere de Cartier, and Love. The Watch Salon carries a broad selection of Cartier’s iconic timepieces, from the Santos, Pasha and Ballon Bleu collections to the new Tank Anglaise designs for women and the Calibre de Cartier for men. Founded in 1847, the House of Cartier is renowned for its craftsmanship and creativity, and has served as crown jeweler to 19 royal houses.

VAN CLEEF &ARPELS

his spring Van Cleef & Arpels enhances the enchanting way to adorn the hand with works of the jeweler's craft. Between the Finger Rings are innovative examples of the storied jewelry Maison's inimitable savoir-faire. Since its founding in the Place Vend么me in 1906, Van Cleef & Arpels has distinguished itself through technical and artistic inventiveness. From the Minaudiere precious case (the astute evening bag designed in the 1920s) and the famous Zip necklace, to the Passe-Partout (a convertible jewel that debuted in 1939) and the Poetic Timepieces with their hidden mechanisms, Van Cleef & Arpels' history has been marked by masterpieces of ingenuity. Between the Finger Rings offer an interesting perspective in jewelry making for the house, as well as statements of beauty and daring for their wearers. Perhaps they're best thought of as ornaments of the hand rather than simply rings. Some adorn several fingers, while others are composed of two motifs engaged in an intimate dialogue, joined by an open loop.

Between the Finger Rings lend their forms to some of the Maison's most cherished themes including butterflies, flowers, birds and Alhambra symbols. The Two Butterfly collection showcases graceful butterflies coupled with the maison's signature asymmetry, and employs dazzling diamonds and pink sapphires. Cosmos is a classic Van Cleef & Arpels collection to welcome a new Between the Finger Ring, with over 90 diamonds contributing to the immaculate radiance of the flowers' delicate corollas. How to wear them? You'll be happy to hear there are several ways. When composed of a single motif or two asymmetric ones, they may be worn facing in or out, according to the wearer's preference, while convertible models unfold using a hidden mechanism to surround several fingers of the hand. London Jewelers is honored to be able to offer these latest innovations from Van Cleef & Arpels to our discerning clientele.

Between the Finger Rings offer statements of beauty and daring for their wearers.

WATCHES

CHANEL

It’s time for the return of classic elegance.

T

he word première has many meanings, especially for the House of Chanel. It indicates precedence in time, principality and superiority. In haute couture it refers to an atelier's head seamstress. And in watchmaking, it represents the first watch created exclusively for women by Chanel, with inspiration drawn from the iconic N°5 perfume bottle stopper dating back to 1924, and the geometry of the Place Vendôme — motifs and symbols that fired the imagination of Coco Chanel. In 1987, when the first Première watch launched, it was the first fine timepiece created by a luxury fashion brand. This was revolutionary in the fashion industry, and the name Première couldn't be more fitting. It was also the first watch designed by Chanel, a design that has now been reimagined and modernized. An absolute jewel with slender lines, the case is longer and the glass is thinner than the original version. The iconic chain bracelet, an homage to

Coco's love of chains, is rounder and the links are thicker, an echo of the chains seen on Chanel's iconic handbags and inside Chanel jackets. The octagonal shape of the case gives a precious appearance of an emerald-cut stone. Debuting in April, the Première watch feels iconically Chanel. It is feminine and elegant, codes that have driven the brand throughout its storied history. The Première watch is available in steel with a black lacquered dial or white mother-of-pearl dial, with or without diamonds. It is also available in 18K yellow gold with a black lacquered dial, with or without diamonds. There are two sizes, 14 styles in all, and the chain bracelet is self adjusting. The final touch is the absence of numbers on the dial, a deliberate and partly philosophical design choice implemented for the simple reason that Le Temps Chanel is for a woman who possesses her own sense of time. The Première watch is available in the Chanel Fine Jewelry Boutique as well as the Watch Salon at London Jewelers Americana Manhasset.

CELEBRITY

CHOPARD E

Chopard and the film industry are engaged in a longrunning love story studded with stellar events and promising encounters.

very year, the film and fashion worlds are always abuzz over what A-list celebrities will be wearing to the Oscars. But while gowns differ widely in color and design, the jewelry has one thing in common — among the winners, that is. This past February, for the tenth consecutive year, the top Academy Award winners were wearing jewelry created by the prestigious Geneva-based house of Chopard, making the brand the most odds-on lucky charm in Hollywood. This year's winner of the Oscar for Best Actress in a Leading Role, Jennifer Lawrence, followed in the glamorous footsteps of such luminaries as Colin Firth, Charlize Theron, Hilary Swank, Rachel Weisz, Helen Mirren, Marion Cotillard, Kate Winslet, Penélope Cruz, Mo’Nique and Michel Hazanavicius, who all wore Chopard on the night of their wins. Chopard and the film industry are engaged in a long-running love story studded with stellar events and promising encounters. Admired for its original and refined creations that are able to enhance a woman’s natural beauty, Chopard is well accustomed to red carpets. In addition to the Cannes Film Festival, of which Chopard has now been an Official Partner for 16 years, the jewelry house is also present at the most prestigious venues on the movie world calendar, including the Césars, BAFTAs, Golden Globes and Oscars. An ever-increasing number of legendary stars and promising young hopefuls, actresses, actors and directors trust Chopard to make them shine at premiere screenings and official ceremonies. Whether classical or avant garde, the choices made by film luminaries reflect their affection for a given company. The ongoing relationship between Chopard and the world of cinema is based on a blend of boldness and loyalty. While the creations from the Genevese watchmaker-jeweler appeal to new stars each year, those who have shined in Chopard Haute Joaillerie and Haute Horlogerie remain profoundly attached to the brand. In February, Jennifer Lawrence looked stunning in a pair of pearshape white diamond drop earrings set among round and rose cut diamonds in 18K white gold. She also wore an elegant strand of diamond beads draped gracefully down her back, paired with a white diamond band set in 18K white gold, and a floral diamond ring set in platinum. Crafting an Oscar-winning performance takes months of work, but on awards night, nothing betters your chances of taking home a statue than wearing Chopard.

The Udells were honored to accept an invitation to be guests of Chopard at this year’s Oscars celebrations. “On behalf of Caroline Scheufele, artistic director and co-president of Chopard, and the entire family, we were delighted to offer the Udells the opportunity to experience Oscars weekend,” says Marc Hruschka, president and CEO of Chopard USA. “The festivities included an exclusive viewing of the Basel Collection, the Weinstein Company’s Pre-Oscars party at Soho House and the Elton John AIDS Foundation Academy Awards Viewing Party.” Both events were sponsored by Chopard. These red carpet experiences are one of a kind and a key part of the brand’s identity within the cinema world.

RUNWAY

FANTASY & REALITY London Jewelers brings the Victoria’s Secret Floral Fantasy Bra to life.

L

ondon Jewelers was proud to again partner with Victoria’s Secret as the official luxury jeweler for the 2012 Victoria's Secret Fashion Show, as sultry lingerie, beautiful women and spectacular sparkling jewels all came together to provide ‘‘the sexiest night on television.” Held on November 7th at the Lexington Avenue Armory and broadcast on CBS December 4th, the event included performances by Rihanna, Justin Bieber and Bruno Mars, arguably the hottest acts in music today. A London Jewelers team worked backstage styling the models with a dazzling array of fabulous jewels worth $3.5 million. The annual show’s highlight was the Fantasy Treasure Bra, designed and created exclusively by London Jewelers. Model Alessandra Ambrosio joined the illustrious group of gorgeous supermodels who’ve previously been given the honor of wearing the word’s most expensive piece of lingerie, taking her place alongside Gisele Bündchen, Tyra Banks, Karolina Kurkova, Adriana Lima, Heidi Klum and Miranda Kerr. The bra is part of the Floral Fantasy Gift Set, which includes a custom Very Sexy Push-Up Bra and matching belt. The bra is hand-set with $2.5 million worth of amethysts, sapphires, tsavorite, rubies, and white, pink and yellow diamonds, all set in 18K yellow and rose gold. Also strutting down the runway included familiar faces (and figures) such as Adriana Lima, Miranda Kerr, Doutzen Kroes, Candice Swanepoel, Erin Heatherton and Lily Aldridge. The audience was just as star studded: celebrity fans in attendance included Vanessa Hudgens, Russell Simmons, Tyson Beckford, Jessica Szohr, Caleb Followill and Debbie Harry, among others. Topping the previous year's show is a challenge, but one both London Jewelers and Victoria's Secret are always up for!

avid Yurman’s High Jewelry collection, a collaboration between the designer and his son Evan, perfectly reflects the dual generations of its creators through the juxtaposition of heritage and innovation. The collection was the focal point for a select number of guests on December 6th, 2012 when London Jewelers and David Yurman hosted a private viewing and three-course meal catered by the Glen Oaks Country Club in Old Westbury. David, Sybil and Evan Yurman, joined by Mark and Candy Udell, were on hand to unveil the collection, with Anthony James-designed vitrines providing the perfect ambiance for viewing the exquisite pieces, which range in price from $5,000 to $1.8 million. Launched in 2010, the High Jewelry collection boasts one-of-a-kind statement pieces set with exquisite stones, juxtaposing unexpected elements to create striking effects. It pays homage to the brand’s heritage by reinterpreting iconic David Yurman design elements and signature details, such as the classic cable motif, sculptural metalwork and quatrefoil shapes. Velvety rubellites and intense mint-colored tourmalines are embraced by elegant twists of the world’s finest diamonds. Highlights include a brightly saturated Paraiba tourmaline cabochon, which tops a pavé band of barbed platinum, an extra-large diamond pavé cable cuff in 18K white gold with 67 carats of diamonds, and a rubellite and colorchange garnet pavé medallion on a black silk cord.

TWIN FARMS G

etting back to nature on a New England getaway needn't mean enduring the rustic simplicity of Henry David Thoreau roughing it on Walden Pond. For those who like sophistication with their fresh air and breathtaking scenery, there's Twin Farms, Vermont's only luxury, five-star experience, which is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year. Located in Barnard, near the Marsh-Billings-Rockefeller National Historical Park, Twin Farms spans 300 acres of stunning natural beauty, embellished by a sophisticated and mildly eccentric art collection spread across 20 stylish accommodations, including 10 freestanding cottages. This combination of outdoor serenity and archetypal New England landscapes with sophisticated design, gourmet dining and a 20,000-bottle wine cellar has made Twin Farms Vermont's most exclusive getaway. Actually, "inclusive" is a better description. Twin Farms' all-inclusive nightly room rates are based on double occupancy and include daily breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea, dinner, all beverages, wine, spirits and unlimited use of on-site recreational equipment and facilities. The property is steeped in history and romance. When author Sinclair Lewis proposed to journalist Dorothy Thompson, she consented to give her hand

provided Lewis bought her a farm in Vermont. They found the ideal retreat in a 1795-era farmhouse which they purchased in 1928, where they went on to entertain celebrated political and literary figures for the next three decades. After changing owners several times, the house was bought by Thurston Twigg-Smith in 1974, who later converted it into a bed and breakfast that soon became the premier small hotel in North America. The first nine rooms opened in 1993 to national acclaim, and additional cottages, a spa and treatment rooms were added through 2005. Though the ownership now includes several partners, guests continue to embrace Twin Farms — and Twigg-Smith’s vision of a sophisticated escape steeped in playful romance — as their own second homes. Twin Farms' amenities and services are seemingly endless, including complimentary airport transfers, and it welcomes large gatherings for weddings and corporate retreats. It is also sponsoring a series of special events throughout 2013 in celebration of its anniversary. With so many year-round activities and spectacular beauty in both sunshine and snow, the toughest decision will be when to visit. For more information, call 800-894-6327 or visit twinfarms.com.

DESIGNER

MONICA RICH KOSANN

M

onica Rich Kosann knows that women harbor many stories and secrets. So much so that she started a jewelry collection based on lockets and charm bracelets, believing every woman has a story to tell — or to keep to herself. Kosann began her artistic career as a fine art black-and-white portrait photographer, something she still does, employing film and darkroom techniques that are rare in our digital age. The personal nature and heirloom quality of her portrait work provided the inspiration to branch out into jewelry design, and she began creating lockets and charm bracelets to hold special photographs or personal messages. When it comes to design, the first question she asks herself is whether a woman could give the piece to her daughter in 20 years. “I like to think that my collection offers my customers heirlooms for our generation," she says, "while maintaining an enduring sense of fashion and timeless style. Living and celebrating the memories created in our daily lives is universal to all of us, and my jewelry is the focus of that universal idea. A locket captures a moment unique to each of us. A charm bracelet tells and celebrates the story of each woman’s life; in that way, it is like a fingerprint, totally unique to that woman.” Kosann's collection stresses versatility and an interactive process between designer and client. “My collection allows tremendous customization

possibilities,” she explains, “so the look a woman creates with my jewelry can become distinctly her own. I love being in a store with a client, playing, layering and trying combinations of my jewelry to help bring out her style and self-expression.” The Manhattan-born daughter of European parents, Monica was a teen model who was always intrigued by what was happening on the other side of the camera. She received her first Rollei camera at 16 and began taking portraits soon after. She studied art, photography and design at the Rhode Island School of Design, the Sorbonne in Paris, The Fashion Institute of Technology, and the International Academy of Art in Austria. In 2010 Kosann was awarded the Rising Star Award for Fine Jewelry by Fashion Group International. That same year she also became a member of the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA), and published her fourth book, Living With What You Love. Since then, she has developed an international client list for her intimate and expressive designs. Now working in a range of metals and gems, her line has expanded to encompass pendants, rings, accessory pieces and a range of layering options in both necklaces and bracelets. Though who said it is unknown, it is all but a sacred commandment for oenophiles, who will go to extreme measures to get their palates on a rare wine. Fortunately, there are brokers who make tracking down bottles of bliss a bit easier. Park Avenue Liquor is one of them; founded in 1934, it is one of the city’s most prominent buyers and sellers of rare wine. We asked vice president Scott Abramson to select 10 scarce and spectacular wines for us, and here’s what he came up with:

A 10-year vertical tasting of Tenuta San Guido Sassicaia, from 1981 through 1990.

1) Sassicaia: This “Super Tuscan” by the producer Tenuta San Guido is considered one of Italy’s finest Bordeaux-style reds. In 1994 it was granted its own DOC (denominazione di origine controllata), the only Italian wine

from a single estate to receive this distinction. About $250 per bottle. 2) Penfolds Grange: This Australian wine made primarily from Shiraz is considered the country’s most collectable wine. Price $500 to $2,000. 3) Domaine Leflaive: This centuries-old winery produces spectacular white burgundies that fetch $500 to $1,000 per bottle. 4) Pétrus: The 1982 vintage from this celebrated Bordeaux producer is a 100-rated masterpiece that carries a $7,000 tasting tariff. 5) Chateau Mouton-Rothschild: For the new millennium, Baroness Philippine de Rothschild produced one of the most beautifully packaged bottles ever with the glass-etched bottle for the 2000 vintage. Drinking it will run you $2,500, but at least you’ll still have the bottle once wine is gone. 6) Bond: This Napa Valley Cabernet is both sought after and small allocation, pushing bottles into the $450 to $600 range. 7) Marcassin: From the Sonoma Coast comes this ultra-rare Chardonnay. If you aren’t on their private mailing list, finding a bottle isn’t easy. Park Avenue Liquor has a dozen or so in stock, priced at $500 each. 8) Domaine Romanée-Conti: This Burgundy is considered one of the world’s finest wines, with one critic calling it “the purest, most aristocratic and intense example of Pinot Noir you could possibly imagine.” Bottles go for anywhere between $7,000 and $15,000. 9) Vega-Sicilia: Another highly sought-after wine from Spain, known for producing no sediment even after extensive aging. $500 to $3,000. 10) Taylor: Opting to end this epic wine list with a port, Abramson suggests the 1963 vintage by Taylor, considered one of the benchmarks in port production. $500 per bottle.

SHAMBALLA I

n 2001, when Mads Kornerup first used an ancient Chinese macrame technique to string together gold beads with a braided nylon thread for music impressario Jay-Z, he drew inspiration from Buddhist prayer beads. Little did he know that it would mark the birth of the Shamballa bracelet, a new jewelry must-have presented with refined casualness and a high level of customization. Crown Princess Mary of Denmark and her Shamballa bracelet tell us a story of one such personal customization. When she gave her first interview as Princess, she wore a Shamballa bracelet with a precious pink argyle diamond pavé bead. The argyle diamonds were from Australia, where Mary was born, and she was the first ever to wear a signature Shamballa Jewels pavé bead featuring this rare gem, a subtle combination of her two worlds. Pieces from Copenhagen-based Shamballa Jewels are seldom identical, which explains why they are so sought after by fashion designers such as Karl Lagerfeld, Diane von Furstenberg and Valentino — all known for being originals themselves. While the aesthetic definitely says Shamballa Jewels, each piece tells a strong story of the wearer’s individual design sensibility. Unique in its mission to encourage harmony and compassion, Shamballa Jewels strikes a balance between the spiritual and the material. Its messages of harmony and compassion have won the founding brothers Mads and Mikkel Kornerup a loyal patronage amongst royalty, the world's leading couturiers, and celebrities from all walks of life.

“Our designs are inspired by prayer beads and symbols that are used in many cultures to reinforce positive thoughts and messages," say the brothers. "In the same way, at the time of customization, we urge our customers to choose elements that remind them of something positive. It could be the color of a gem that reminds them of blue skies or the initials of a loved one. It is important that our jewelry brings a smile to their faces. We hope this will create a ripple effect and that others they meet will also be infected by their smiles and positivity.” This is what the Kornerup brothers mean when they say that they hope to "Shamballize" the world. Shamballa is the mythical Himalayan kingdom said to be populated by those who've achieved enlightenment and compassion, which the brothers hope to encourage through their art. The combination of positive messages, precious material and ancient macramé technique have made Shamballa Jewels a pioneer in the field of fine jewelry. Fine jewelry no longer excludes men, nor is it something that should only be brought out for special occasions. With its emphasis on everyday wearability, Shamballa Jewels has redefined the very concept of fine jewelry and how it can be worn. Shamballa Jewels’ repertoire includes bracelets, necklaces, cufflinks, earrings and rings made with high-quality diamonds, precious stones and rare gems set on 18K gold, all of which is lovingly set, braided and polished by hand in Copenhagen. The collection is available at London Jewelers Americana Manhasset in a variety of beautiful colors and styles.

BRUMANI W

hat would the spirit of Carnival look like if transmitted into a jewelry collection? Probably something like the work of Brumani. Founded in Sao Paulo in 2005, Brumani has achieved dramatic international presence in the jewelry world for its vibrant expression of the spirit of its homeland. The company is the brainchild of brothers Eduardo, Emerson and Rodrigo Bruner, the grandsons of German and Italian immigrants who settled in the South American country following World War II. Their father operated a jewelry factory for 50 years, and the brothers like to say they were born into the craft of fine jewelry making. Brumani is characterized by a passion for art and contemporary design. Its pieces brim with the colors and powerful femininity of Brazil, and are meant to be worn in everyday life, not hidden away in a jewelry box. Which isn't to say they aren't spectacular pieces that have become a staple among the red carpet set. Flowing designs, original shapes and innovative cuts blend with exuberant combinations of diamonds and rare and precious gems in vividly contrasting colors. Brumani also finds inspiration in Brazil's varied and exotic natural landscape. Its Baobab collection takes forms and shapes from the baobab tree, transplanted to Brazil via Africa. Its swirling bark and branches are expressed in the jeweler's craft through cabochon cuts of aquamarine and ruby, rose tourmaline, brown diamonds and yellow gold. Brumani's Nude collection also pays tribute to Brazil, but this time to the country's ethnic diversity, using "nude" tones of metal and gems that range from rose and beige to brown and black. To view the enticing range of inspired work by this rising star in the field of high jewelry, visit London Jewelers at our Americana Manhasset and Southampton locations.

A NEW YORKER IN I

BRAZIL

n 2002 Jeffrey Jah was invited to spend Carnival with Gisele Bündchen in Salvador, Brazil, and the music, architecture, food, people and beaches were just too seductive to resist. “People were laughing and singing and dancing,” he recalls, “and it was just incredible to be part of the real Carnival.” The lure of this multifaceted South American country — with its jarring juxtaposition of buzzing urban centers and the wilds of the Amazon — is rising fast thanks to Brazil’s booming economy. So much so that Jah, a New York nightlife entrepreneur, decided to invest heavily in Brazil and make it his home away from home. Jah is a partner in the Café de la Musique chain of beach clubs, and also operates another chain of 12 Lotus nightclubs located in metropolitan cities. “The way people live there,” says Jah, “everything is just simple with good vibes, and the people are so friendly everywhere you go; it’s just overwhelming. They love to eat, drink, work out and look good. They love music and dance, and everything about America.” Since you’re no doubt starting to succumb to the seduction yourself, here’s a handy insider’s guide to Brazil from a New Yorker who fell in love with the place. Pay a visit to these spots and you too might find Brazil an irresistible place to invest — if only to have an excuse to visit monthly, as Jah has done for the past nine years. “The country is rocking,” he says, “and is a great place for foreign investment.”

SAO PAULO Sao Paulo is the metropolitan money-making center of Brazil, with 21 million people living within 30 square miles. “The energy is full-on and unreal,” says Jah. “It’s 24/7 like New York, but with even more energy.”

Hotels: His three recommendations: The Fasano Hotel, The Emiliano Hotel, and The Hotel Unique. Restaurants: Two favorites are Gero and Cafe Figura, “and for the best steak, a place called Pablo Juan.” Shopping: The best place for shopping in the bustling metropolis is Cidade Jardim, and for cafes, boutiques and people-watching try Rua Oscar Freire in the trendy Jardim Euoropa neighborhood.

RIO DE JANEIRO Glamorized in numerous Hollywood films, Rio eventually earned the reputation of being dangerous for tourists. Today that’s a misconception, says Jah. “When I first went there I was petrified, from what all my friends in Brazil said. But I’ve never had a bad experience there, so I think it’s all about your karma and your vibe.” The mixture of Art Deco architecture and overlooming mountainscapes is fantastic, he says, “and it’s the sexiest beach city in the world, period.” Hotels: Jah has two favorites, The Fasano Hotel and The Copacabana Palace. Beaches: He recommends the classics, Ipanema and Copacabana. Neighborhood: When ready for a break from the beach, visit the Lapa and Santa Teresa neighborhoods, which border the mountains.

FLORIANOPOLIS This island, about the size of Ibiza, is connected to the Brazilian continent by a single bridge. It boasts a population of 450,000 that rises to 1.6 million during the travel season from November to April. “It’s one of the cleanest and safest islands in Brazil,” says Jah, “with water that’s crystal clear to 20 meters.” Sports: Florianopolis offers every kind of water sport imaginable. Music: Florianopolis is known for top-notch electronic music as well as its live concerts and festivals, which draw many American music acts. Beaches: Jah’s favorites are Pria Mozambique, Pria Brava and Pria Campeche.

hen Debby Hymowitz stopped practicing law to become a full-time mom to three young daughters, she searched for a way to continue expressing herself intellectually and creatively. She began taking classes at the International Center for Photography in 2003, and has been shooting ever since. What started out as a hobby became a passion, and that passion became her work. How lucky! “I am drawn to shooting stories about people and the places they go,” reveals Hymowitz. “I have a curiosity for the meaningful and beautiful, and that intrigue drives me to uncover the stories behind what I see. I am always looking to put people and places into social and environmental context.” Hymowitz admits that she can often get lost behind the lens, always on a quest to understand and then express what draws people to their communities and inspires their behavior. Her travelogue work includes series from luxurious hot spots like Positano, Capri, St. Tropez, Paris, Las Vegas and Miami, as well as locales with more socially and economically complex cultures, including Bali and rural Louisiana. “To me, the beauty of life is in its complexity,” she says. “Through heredity and environment, fortune and obstacles, we are divided into subcultures, but fit together as a giant puzzle.” The photo on the cover of this issue was taken by Hymowitz at Tahiti Beach Club in St Tropez. Those who frequent the beaches, hotels and shops of this fantastically spirited and magical town like to live large and play hard. These are the rewards for hard work, and pushing yourself every day to be the best you can possibly be. Her recommendation:“Soak in the luxurious beauty and joy the world has to offer!” The current exhibition of Hymowitz’s work at Sebastian & Barquet Gallery in NYC opened on April 18th. The series of large format film portraits is titled Sexual Evolution, and explores female sexuality and gender identity. lthough Jennifer Meyer Maguire's grandmother began schooling her in the craft of enamel jewelry making at the tender age of six, Maguire had no idea that she would one day follow in her grandmother's footsteps. Maguire began her career in the public relations departments of two of the world's biggest fashion houses: Ralph Lauren and Giorgio Armani. She soon began longing to be part of the creative side of the industry, and in 2005 returned to her roots; she launched the Jennifer Meyer jewelry brand with the goal of making elegant and substantial pieces that women can wear every day. Her creative talents were recognized in November 2012, when she was named runner up in the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund competition and rewarded with resources to help further expand her line. Born and raised in Los Angeles, where her jewelry is made by hand in her studio, Maguire draws inspiration from her everyday surroundings as well as her travels around the globe. The Jennifer Meyer aesthetic is characterized by classic and clean designs meant to stand the test of time. Beauty shines forth through quality of design and unexpected details. The newest collections feature larger pieces with bold stones that complement her signature delicate designs. She incorporates 18K white, yellow and rose gold with stone accents such as diamonds, black diamonds, turquoise, rubies, sapphires and emeralds. Ultimately, Maguire designs for the everyday woman, while honoring the importance women place on their jewelry. "Ask any woman where they received or bought a certain piece of jewelry," she likes to say, "and she will tell you the story." he Montauk Yacht Club Resort & Marina has catered to New York's elite since 1928. The club's original membership is a veritable who'swho of society, and includes Vincent Astor, J.P. Morgan, Nelson Doubleday, Harry Payne Whitney and Harold S. Vanderbilt. The MYC's annual Memorial Day party kicks off the summer season as it once again transforms into a landmark destination on Long Island's South Fork East End. Recently given a multi-million dollar restoration, the resort bills itself as the premier hotel experience in the Hamptons. Accommodations consist of 107 luxurious guestrooms, villas and suites. Dining options include the Gulf Coast Kitchen, which combines Tuscan cuisine with local ingredients, and the Turtle Lounge, which is housed in a replica of the landmark Montauk lighthouse built in the 1920s, and is adorned with images of the yacht club's rich history. The Montauk Yacht Club Resort & Marina actually began its life as three separate estates. The original club building was erected in 1928 by Carl Fisher, the entrepreneurial builder who turned Miami into a thriving resort city. Fisher hoped to replicate his success in Florida in the small village of Montauk and create a seaside playground for the wealthy. Starting with an elegant Tudor-style manor, Fisher soon realized he needed a harbor to attract grand pleasure yachts, and so he dug a deep channel between freshwater Lake Montauk and Gardiner's Bay, creating the world's largest private harbor at the time. The other buildings include the former Island Club, once a speakeasy and casino, and the Caleb Bragg Estate. Bragg, one of the original governors of the club, was so enamored by the Island that he built himself a home right next door. Florence Ziegfeld, creator of the famous "Follies" that bear his name, eventually purchased the estate and today it serves as the resort's villas. Today, plentiful activities include indoor and outdoor pools, saunas, surfing, tennis, spa services, fitness center and a private beach. Charter boats are also available from MYC's marina, named one of the Top 10 for North America, Mexico and the Bahamas by Yachting Magazine. The MYC is also a popular spot for event hosting and, of course, weddings. For more information and to make reservations, visit montaukyachtclub.com.

TWO BY LONDON

iamonds may be forever, but the diamond buying experience must change with the times. Two perfect examples of this are De Beers’ pioneering Forevermark diamonds, stones that are individually certified to the highest ethical and aesthetic standards, and TWO by LONDON, the 18-month-old Engagement Shop at London Jewelers that has transformed the ring buying experience. At TWO by LONDON, we know there are many kinds of people who shop for rings in different ways. Some come to us with cocktail napkin sketches and dreams of a totally unique ring. Others opt for step-by-step expert guidance in choosing from our vast selection of engagment rings and wedding bands. But what they all have in common is the desire to take charge of the diamond buying experience, to test and browse as much as they want without a hovering salesperson, and to have the selection experience enhanced by interactive technology. TWO by LONDON makes all this possible.

TIPS FROM SCOTT UDELL, GIA-CERTIFIED GEMOLOGIST AND MEMBER OF THE LONDON FAMILY: •Know her personal preferences and ring size. •Be confident that we can work within your budget. •Let us guide you through the 4C’s: cut, color, clarity and carat weight. •Choose the metal as carefully as you choose the stone. •Buy from a name you can trust.

Unveiled in the fall of 2011, the store connected to our Americana Manhasset location is often likened more to an Apple boutique than a traditional diamond store. While our staff of GIA-certified experts are right there when you want them, the welcoming environment encourages handson exploration, at your leisure. Hundreds of sample rings are at your fingertips and can be tried on without assistance. Interactive kiosks feature computers with a library’s worth of information on everything from mining and stonecutting to customer testimonials. It’s all designed to make the process of buying rings as smooth, transparent and enjoyable as possible. There’s one more thing that’s front and center at TWO by LONDON, and that’s customization. At the computer kiosks, simply enter the code found on each sample ring and start exploring the virtually endless possiblities. Change the cut or carat size of the center diamond, add trillions or pavé, add your birthstone or other colored gemstones, and customize the setting metal. You can also build your own ring from scratch using 3D modeling software. Bring in a sketch or vintage photograph, and let us create the ring of your dreams. You take a front row seat to the creative process as we send you video and photo updates documenting your ring’s journey, from inspired idea, through our state-of-the-art manufacturing facility, right to the jeweler’s workbench. You will be included every step of the way. The unparalleled selection at TWO by LONDON includes engagement rings starting at just $1,500. Whatever your dream, whatever your budget, we’ll make it happen at TWO by LONDON.

Grooms can’t go wrong with a piece of fine jewelry, while for brides, there is no better choice than a timepiece to symbolize all the days to come that you will soon pledge to each other. It’s not just another gift, but a symbolic token and an investment in your future. Just like your relationship, it will continue to grow more valuable over time. When selecting the perfect watch for your husband-to-be, think about his interests and personal style. If he’s active, look for features like durability and water resistance. If he’s always on the go, consider a watch with an annual calendar or dual time zone functions. If you’re hoping he will wear the watch on your wedding day, choose a more formal leather strap, or match the metal tone to his cufflinks, studs, and of course, his new wedding band. Don’t forget to add the finishing touch: an inscription to forever commemorate the beginning of the rest of your lives. TOPPING ROSE HOUSE

P

erfectly situated at the intersection of Montauk Highway and the Sag Harbor Turnpike sits a shining new beacon in Bridgehampton. Actually, it’s not entirely new. Topping Rose House, scheduled to open in May, is a 22-room hotel that aims to be a “haven in the Hamptons,” according to co-owner Simon Critchell. Meticulously restored from the ground up, the Greek Revival mansion was built in 1842 by Judge Abraham Topping Rose, the son of a Revolutionary War surgeon who was raised in the area and resettled there to raise his own family. The three-acre site combines the original house with contemporary lodgings for the perfect blend of modern and heritage. The hotel’s restaurant opened last September and has already garnered praise in the press. Chef Tom Colicchio, founder of New York restaurants Craft and Colicchio & Sons, has reflected the community’s heritage in his menu, serving up seasonal American cooking from local farmers, ranchers and day-boat fishermen. Long Island vintners contribute to the ample wine list. Topping Rose House offers an outdoor pool and a spa operated by Naturopathica, a veritable East Hampton institution. These pioneers in holistic skincare and natural therapies combine performance-based natural ingredients, advanced green technologies and sensorial ambiance for guests eager to regenerate and recharge. The 25-seat bar juxtaposes original fireplaces with striking video installations by local artist Robert Wilson. And private events are welcome in Topping Rose House’s barn, also painstakingly restored from the original property and able to accommodate 75 guests. Honoring Hamptons heritage was the plan since the project was conceived in 2005. “From the outside you won’t see anything different than you would have seen in the 1840s,” says Critchell. “For obvious reasons, Bridgehampton is not very pro-commercialization. But all the residents are proud of Topping Rose House, as it’s really brought the house back to its former splendor.” To book your stay, visit toppingrosehouse.com. FRIEZE

ART FAIR

W

e can all appreciate a Rembrandt or a Monet, but when Frieze New York returns this spring, it will prove that art can also be a living, breathing, dynamic force. Sponsored by Frieze Magazine, the leading publication for contemporary art, the Frieze New York Art Fair will feature over 1,000 contemporary and living artists represented by 180 galleries from every part of the world. Held from May 10th to 13th on Randall's Island, in a specially commissioned structure created by architecture firm SO-IL, the fair is one of the few in the world devoted entirely to contemporary art, and will be the largest event held by the organizers thus far. In addition to forward-thinking art from a top-notch roster of global galleries, Frieze New York will feature panel discussions and keynote lectures with leading philosophers and critical theorists from the art world. Special sections of the fair include Frame, devoted to solo artist presentations by emerging galleries, and Focus, which will present specially curated projects commissioned by Frieze New York. Transportation to Frieze New York is a cinch, with ferry services running from the 35th Street Ferry Dock, bus service from the Upper East Side, and valet parking. FIDO FIXERS T

“THOUGH THEY’VE RESCUED WELL OVER 2,000 ANIMALS OVER THE PAST FOUR YEARS, THEY EVENTUALLY LEARNED FROM THEIR PARTNER SHELTERS THAT TOO MANY ANIMALS WERE STILL BEING EUTHANIZED; TO REALLY FIGHT THE PROBLEM, THEY HAD TO GO TO THE SOURCE.”

his March the Fido Fixers custom-made, state-of-the-art mobile spay and neuter unit embarks on a long journey through the southeastern United States, where the problem of unwanted pets is at its most dire, and high-kill animal shelters are the norm. Launched in late 2011, the non-profit was founded by Lisa Wysocki, Susan Maounis and Suzanne Steinberg, three close friends who all own multiple pets and have years of experience in animal rescue throughout Westchester and Fairfield counties. The trio began their efforts by transporting unwanted dogs from the Southeast. In a strange twist, the most unwanted dogs in the Southeast are often the most wanted in the Northeast. Because of the long tradition of hunting in southern states, dog breeds such as beagles and labradors are plentiful to the point of tragically outnumbering their potential owners, whereas in the Northeast they can find a happy home immediately. Though they’ve rescued well over 2,000 animals over the past four years, Wysocki, Maounis and Steinberg eventually learned from their partner shelters that too many animals were still being euthanized, and that to really fight the problem they had to go to the source; the most effective way to fight the problem of unwanted pets is to help ensure they aren’t created in the first place. Fido Fixers was founded to provide mobile low and no-cost spay and neuter services to economically distressed areas. The epidemic of unwanted pets in the South is partly economic and partly cultural, Wysocki says. Many unwanted pets come from poor and rural communities where veterinary services are not accessible or affordable. In addition, cultural issues also contribute, such as the prevailing misconception that spaying and neutering is bad for the animal, and the prevalence of hunting culture, “in which they find one good dog in the litter and then dump the rest,” says Wysocki, “which is just tragic.” To help put a stop to the countless unwanted pets that are euthanized each year, Fido Fixers gratefully accepts all charitable donations. “We will begin raising money soon for another mobile unit,” says Wysocki, “because the need is so great, and for some of our partner groups that are cashstrapped, we want to help underwrite their clinics.” Wysocki also emphasizes that Fido Fixers is a labor of love and a personal mission for its three founders. They have underwritten much of the operations themselves and all donations go to fighting the problem of unwanted pets. “We have no paid staff and none of us will ever take a paycheck from Fido Fixers,” stresses Wysocki. “This costs us money, not makes us money. There’s no overhead and we run it lean and mean — or lean and nice, I should say!” Fido Fixers is currently partnered with the Rescue Paw Foundation, working together to save precious lives. “THE GOAL OF THE DAY IS TO DO SOMETHING THAT CHALLENGES YOU AND MAKES YOU FEEL CONFIDENT, AND MOST IMPORTANT, TO DO IT WITH A SUPPORT TEAM BEHIND YOU.” –JOCELYN LEVY

wo years ago Jenny Gaither found herself at a crossroads in life. Although she was a fitness instructor, she nevertheless felt self-conscious about her appearance, and would wear a warm-up jacket while leading her cycling class, even on sweltering summer days. Then one day she revealed the insecurity to her students, questioning the silly logic of it, and for the next session the entire class of 55 all donned sports bras in support of Gaither. The gesture got the women talking about the underlying issue — being comfortable in their own skin — and spreading the message virally via social media. Soon Gaither, along with partners Jocelyn Levy and Kelly Hurley, launched the SEAK Foundation (which stands for Strive Embrace Achieve Know), a non-profit that promotes fitness as a platform for women to build confidence to feel comfortable in their own skin, and to counter the tendency to determine self-worth based on their appearance. On April 14th, SEAK sponsored The Sports Bra Challenge 2013, its second annual event that brought hundreds of fitness bikes into Union Square Park. “The goal of the day is to do something that challenges you and makes you

feel confident,” says Levy, “and most important, to do it with a support team behind you.” All proceeds benefitted City of Hope’s Positive Image Center, which helps patients recovering from cancer treatment. This year’s event was triple the size of last year’s, with two 300-bike classes led by instructors from partnering organization SoulCycle. The charitable fee to mount a bike for the exhilarating workout ranged from $250 to $1,600, and many participants were even eager to do additional fundraising. They were encouraged to set up a web page at YouCaring.com, which they could share with family and friends to drum up support while also bringing awareness to the cause. SEAK Foundation is already expanding its efforts beyond The Sports Bra Challenge. Its newly launched Build Confidence Project is helping several New York City schools implement fitness and wellness programs, which will help students feel comfortable and confident in their bodies. And next year, SEAK will sponsor a retreat aimed at young women ages 17 to 23.
