What is EquaGel™? How does it function? EquaGel™ is a dry-polymer gel, almost rubbery to the touch. It has unbelievable tensile and compression strength. One of its most amazing features is referred to as column buckling. Simply put, each wall of gel is capable of supporting only a preengineered load. When that threshold is exceeded, the wall buckles under and passes the weight to the surrounding walls for upport. This “buckling and weight-passing” happens instantly and repeatedly until the maximum surface area of pressing weight is evenly supported by largely equalized pressure (hence the name, Equapressure). Applied to seat cushions, the narrow pressure points of the ischium and coccyx are allowed to buckle into the cushion without resistance while the broad areas of the buttocks and legs are supported evenly. The areas most likely to develop pressure sores are allowed to float nearly pressurefree within the pad while the user’s weight is distributed evenly across the cushion. How it works • Reduction of peak pressures • The Buckling Column principle • Skin temperature / high specific heat capacity of gel A 1 degree increase in skin temperature increase tissue metabolism by 10% Increased tissue metabolism results in an increased demand for oxygen. If tissue demand for oxygen is not met cell necrosis can happen • Moisture Transport The EquaGel insert is different from conventional gels in that it has an open lattice design which permits moisture transport away from the skin/cushion interface Clinical Trial Results In 10 out of 10 trials, patients with stage 3 decubitus ulcers saw those sores close with the aid of our the Equagel cushion buckling-gel technology. It has similar widely-recognized success in wound care as a critical care bed. Lab studies at Georgia Tech University indicated EquaGel had lower IT pressures than RoHo at loads less than 70kg and at these loads, 33% lower pressures than Reflexion Foam. Clinical testing revealed: Improvement in skin quality both visually and via high definition ultrasound was observed in all patients following use of the Intelli-Gel cushion. Sitting postures were more symmetrical. Sitting tolerance increased on average by 2 hours per day.
