The Rainbow Tower
Concept: Lifting Up 1. Lift route up Traditional way of demonstration is marching on the street, with limited influence on nearby streets. Highrise is popular in China, so I wonder if it is possible to lift the demostration route high enough so that more people can see the demostration, in this way the influence of demonstration spread wider than traditional way. Lift the demonstration route up to height of 240 meters so that more people would see it.
2. Lift volumes up
According to my research on LGBT movement, I set a series of function spaces that essential for LGBTs to fight for their rights. Mostly in two kinds. One kind of space is those what contribute to LGBT culture. The studios that create media products like music, movies, novels, magazines, apps would benefit to LGBTs cohesion. A strong unity is necessary to fight for right.

Another kind of space is those what contribute to spread LGBT culture to non-LGBTs. Such as museums, exhibition space, and clubs. After all, prejudice comes from ignorence. All those single functional volumnes just like the isolated LGBT groups that scattered all over the society. Now all of those groups are gathered together and be arranged alone with the demonstration route. This project is a strong castle for all LGBT organizations.
3. Lift public spaces up LGBT is still a forbidden topic in From first famous demostration after China. Most of LGBTs can only hold Stonewall Riots to Same-sex Marriage their lover's hands under the shadow. legalized Successfully at 2015 in USA, all the LGBTs in America made those achievements by relentless effort and continuous struggling in many kinds of forms.
This project also aimed to encourage the marching people by kinds of instruments along demonstration route in the building. So I set a series of outdoor exhibition spaces along the demonstration route.
In reference to the LGBT Right Movement in USA for recent 40 years, demonstration and media broadcast are two essential powers for LGBTs to fight for their right. This enlighten me on struggling LGBT movement in China.

The demonstration route includes the both upward route and downward route. The silhouette marching people in the section axonometric view on the left show the upward demonstration route. The top part of demonstration route is called The Rainbow Road becasue when there hold a LGBT parade or demonstration it would be decorated in rainbow color. And the route is just in the height that where a rainbow in. Above the rainbow here located the heaven. People march to the Heaven Hall to listen to the inspiring speech, and then marching down through another route.

In case of the condition of bad weather, a n indoor auditorium was set behind the Heaven Hall.

Besides, the thematic out-door art exhibitions that support the LGBT movements along the street would also encourage marching people.

The Heaven Hall is 240 meters high from the ground, so it migh not that easy to climb. To solve this problem, escalators were installed along with the stairs.

The Ruins In Community
Concept: Nirvana
1. Select the houses that to be renovated.
2. Remove the roof and unwanted levels.
2. Only keep the walls that shape space in interesting way.
4. Add a second-floor level roaming path.
5. Add new designed roofs and more details.

Independent Work 2013 Spring, 2nd Year Site: Xiamen
By renovated old buildings instead of build a new one, the memory of the street and the history of community were retained in this new 'ruins'.
Ancestor hall of family Chen
Jiagen Chen, who was born in Jimei district of Xiamen city, made lots of contribution to this city in feild of education (founded Jimei University and Xiamen University). from Qing dynasty to the age of People’s Republic of China.
Fully-opened-space design is the key strategy to renovated those buildings. The residents nearby would gladly come here since it is open for everyone and for free; The tourists who walking by this place would also be invited to have a visit on this sets of buildings for it's special design and leisurely residents. I hope this project could be a seed of prosperity for local community. If more buildings along the tourism route renovated in ingenious ways, more and more tourists would come here for visit and contribute to lcoal tourism industry.
With the development of tourism of Close to the Family Chen Ancestral Xiamen city, there is a tourism route Hall, there are several abandoned buildings need to be rebuild for local get through the community. community center. Based on my survey of local residents, six kinds of functional space are organized into this project to meet their needs. In addition, all of the spaces here, except for the library, are fully opened for both residents and visitors. The project becomes more easy to be reached because there is no doors nor roofs. And the people those who wondering and playing in community center become part of culture landscape for the visitors. This is a ruin that record the old memory of community. And it is also a visiting site which shows the worthwatching local real life.

The Residence And Temple Concept: Climbing Mountain Road First, basic space arrangement. Since the site is located in a well developed shopping street, adding a space for commercial renting is beneficial to families' financial situation.
Split part of temple at the second floor, and change the form of space of resident part.
Add some green space to serve the three different parts.
Second, visiting path by reference to a local temple.
Finally, rotate the long visiting rotate into a spiral line in order to fit into vour site. The statue of god of sea is stored in the tower in the usual time.
And transform the tradition icon into morden form that re-designed by me. Chinese temple offen build on the moutian, this is also a reason why I add some stairs to make the visiting like a moutain climbing.
Independent Work 2015 Summer, 4th Year Site: Xiamen
I extract the main factors of temple and visiting route.
I take a local traditional temple which is 3km away from site as reference of designing a religious visiting path.
Finally, design the residence for Family Li and a tenemental shop that support their living cost. In the old time, due to the concerns of danger and unstable volume of fishing, the residents who live on fishing are seeking the bless from the God of Sea, and build a temple to serve Him.
However, The culture revolution of China breaks both the chains of tradition and the treasure of tradition. The temple were been occupied and the statue of God of Sea were luckily been hidden by the loyal follower, thus family Li. Family Li bring the statue to Taiwan, where is ruled by a different government.
Decades after the culture revolution, the central government changes their policy and encourages citizens to rebuild the lost culture tradition. And the Family Li finally can come back to their hometown. But they have only one place to build their new home and the old temple for the God of Sea that they used to served for.
I build a basement and made it connect with the first floor to enlarge the space for commercial. Larger commercial space beneficial it's bussiness running. Both first floor and basement share a same green glass house that planted with bamboo, a religious symbol.
To match the moutianclimbing idea, I also arrange a special space form for the residences. The front door of family Li's house is set nearby the visiting path. Which implies that the family is the loyal guard of the god of sea.

Due to a history reason, the local house always build in longhouse form, which makes it hard to get enough brightness at the middle part of the house. My project have the same problem, and this is the reason why I desgin a nearly three-floors-high yard to get more light.

Facade on street Both the temple and the way to the temple can be seen from the street. And this visiting route is also full opened to the public. I hope in this way more people would visit the new built temple and recall the old memory of this place.
