ACC Leisure Services maintains 13 playgrounds on park property

Athens-Clarke County. Additionally, the department maintains seven playgrounds at Clarke County School District elementary schools. Spring is a perfect time to introduce your family to a new playground. Sail away at the Rocksprings Park pirate ship themed playground, but don’t get too close to the sea monster, and while over at Southeast Clarke Park, the dragon watches all the fun at the World of Wonder Playground.

The Holiday Spirits Tour

Visit the Greenway! The North Oconee River Greenway is a linear park system providing transportation options, wildlife corridors, recreation activities, and protection to the North Oconee River. It includes a family friendly multi-use path for public enjoyment. The Greenway offers nearly 4 miles of concrete path for non-motorized use. Bikes, blades, boards, dogs on leashes, joggers, and strollers are welcome. The Greenway runs from Sandy Creek Nature Center to Oak Street, on to Williams Street, and ends at the University of Georgia. Points of interest include Cook and Brother Plaza, Dudley Park, and the MLK Parkway parks — each with scenic views. Enjoy birdwatching, biking, canoeing, fishing, hiking, and jogging along the Greenway. Tentative plans for Greenway expansion involve creating additional paved sections adjacent to the North Oconee River. The Greenway is open to the public daily from sunrise to sunset. Free parking is available at the Allen House next to Sandy Creek Nature Center, College Avenue and MLK Parkway lot, behind Mama’s Boy on Poplar Street, and Oconee Street near the river. Art Exhibitions

Community: Works by Students of the Clarke County School District

A gallery exhibition of more than 300 art works on the theme of community by young artists in the Clarke County School District will be on display during the school district’s biennial art exhibition at the Lyndon House Arts Center. This exhibition celebrates the work done in art classes and the connections formed across the school district and the community. It features the work of students in pre-kindergarten through 12th grade and is generously co-sponsored by First American Bank and Trust Company. Jewelry/ Metalsmithing

This class focuses on jewelry and metals as an art form rather than a mode of production. We will spotlight techniques such as piercing, soldering, stone setting, chasing, appliqué, and inlay. Registration Fees:

Fees are due at the time of registration. Checks should be made payable to “Athens-Clarke County.”

Refund Policy:

• If a class or program is cancelled due to insufficient enrollment or other reason, ACC Leisure Services will issue a full refund to all registered individuals. • No refunds will be granted after the start of the program or class. • Refund requests must include a Refund Request Form and must be received no less than seven (7) business days prior to the first day of class or program. • Refunds will be assessed a 25% administrative fee. • After the seven (7) day deadline, refunds will not be granted without a written medical excuse from a licensed physician.

Scholarships

Any Athens-Clarke County resident under the age of 18 may apply for a scholarship. The Bishop Park Tennis Program offers a limited number of scholarships. A list of required documents to determine scholarship eligibility are available at www.athensclarkecounty.com/leisure or by calling 706-613-3800. Scholarships do not cover entrance, admission, rental fees, or adult programs. Parents must apply for a scholarship prior to the day of program registration. All scholarships expire June 30 and must be renewed.

Smoking Policy

Sec.4-3-2. Smoking Prohibited in Athens-Clarke County Facilities. Smoking shall be prohibited in all enclosed facilities of, including buildings owned, leased, operated by the Unified Government of Athens-Clarke County. Smoking shall be prohibited within the boundaries of any park, youth sports complex, or recreation area owned, leased, or operated by the Unified Government of Athens-Clarke County, including any open area within such park, youth sports complex, or recreation area.
