Get in the Game... The Athens-Clarke County Tennis Center is now open for play. The facility accommodates year-round use for open play, leagues, instructional programs, clinics and tournaments. The center features 12 lighted, hard-surface courts with viewing and staging areas, a covered pavilion, restrooms, and office and meeting space facilities. The Tennis Center was funded through SPLOST 2005. Part of Southeast Clarke Park, the center is located at 4460 Lexington Road and accessed either by a dedicated driveway off Lexington Road just past the park’s main entrance or by pedestrian pathway from the park. IN THIS ISSUE

A variety of tennis programs for children, teens, and adults are available. Take a moment and review the exciting opportunities listed on pages 19-21 of this guide. ART EXHIBITIONS Lyndon House Arts Center, presents continually changing art exhibitions which feature the broad range of works by practicing local and area artists in a variety of media, styles and concepts. From traditional to avant-garde, works by professional, novice, young or elder artists can be seen in Lyndon House Arts Center galleries. Some exhibitions are theme presentations, some are competitions, and some are targeted to a specific media or a local patron’s collection. Children visiting the galleries must be accompanied and supervised by an adult for the safety of the artwork and for artwork content. Period Decorative Arts c.1840-1890 and Athens History Museum Display

The Ware-Lyndon House, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, represents a blend of the Greek Revival and Italianate styles. Resplendent furnishings showcase period decorative arts of the mid and late 1800’s. Museum quality memorabilia in the Historic Display Room highlight significant aspects of Athens history. Roll Out the Barrels

For this unusual gallery exhibition several local artists turn ordinary rain barrels into beautiful pieces of functional art. Silent Auction Event for Roll Out the Barrels

An event to raise awareness of visual arts and the importance of rain barrels, held in support of the Athens Green School Program, an initiative to ensure environmental education is taught in the classroom, and a partnership of ACC Recycling Division, Water Conservation Office, Stormwater, and Keep AthensClarke County Beautiful. Paper Covers Rock: Graphic Arts and Athens Music Scene: 1975-1985

An exhibition of graphic arts held in partnership with “Art Rocks Athens 2014,” an organization seeking to revisit, celebrate, and archive the unique relations of art and music in Athens. The exhibition is curated by Sean Bourne known for his graphic art work with early Athens bands. Winners ACT will be holding auditions for their annual musical revue, Live Art, which will feature a spectacular line-up of Tony Award Winning Musicals! Kevin Beilfuss, graduate of the American Academy of Art in Chicago and OPA Regional and National award recipient, comes to Athens for a four day figure workshop. Pat’s paintings have been in more than 70 juried shows and more than a dozen one-woman exhibits, including being the featured artist at the State of Georgia Botanical Garden and Callaway Gardens. Pat’s paintings hang in numerous private collections and she has taught in the Caribbean, France, and Italy, among many places. Gone Fishin’... Call it a day and go fishing with the ACC Leisure Services Department! Leisure Services offers has several options for those who love to cast a reel. Fishing is permitted along the Greenway, in the Memorial Park Lake, and at Sandy Creek Park’s Lake Chapman. Memorial Park’s lake holds bream and catfish, and Lake Chapman holds Large-mouth bass, channel catfish, bullhead catfish, crappie, and bream. All Georgia fishing regulations must be observed. A current Georgia Department of Natural Resources Fishing License is required to fish on Leisure Services property. Sport fishing is permitted only (pole and line). River Rendezvous

Sandy Creek Nature Center and the Upper Oconee Watershed Network (UOWN) will host River Rendezvous. This event gives a snap shot of the health of the waterways in our area. Registration Fees:

Fees are due at the time of registration. Checks should be made payable to “Athens-Clarke County.” All payments made using a credit card will be charged a $3 “convenience fee” to be added to the cost of services. There is not an additional fee charged for payments made with a debit card.

Refund Policy:

• If a class or program is canceled due to insufficient enrollment or other reason, ACC Leisure Services will issue a full refund to all registered individuals. • No refunds will be granted after the start of the program or class. Collected fees of less than $5 will not be refunded (unless the department cancels the program or class). • Refund requests must be received no less than seven (7) business days prior to the first day of class or program. • Refunds will be assessed a 25% administrative fee. • After the seven (7) day deadline, refunds will not be granted without a written medical excuse from a licensed physician.

Scholarships

Any Athens-Clarke County resident under the age of 18 is eligible for consideration for a scholarship. A list of required documents to determine scholarship eligibility is available by calling 706-613-3800 or at www.athensclarkecounty.com/scholarships Scholarships do not cover admission, entrance, field trips, rental fees, or adult programs. Parents must apply for a scholarship prior to the day of program registration. All scholarships expire June 30 and must be renewed.

Smoking Policy

Sec. 4-3-2. Smoking Prohibited in Athens-Clarke County Facilities. Smoking shall be prohibited in all enclosed facilities of, including buildings owned, leased, operated by the Unified Government of Athens-Clarke County. Smoking shall be prohibited within the boundaries of any park, youth sports complex, or recreation area owned, leased, or operated by the Unified Government of Athens-Clarke County, including any open area within such park, youth sports complex, or recreation area.
